Saskatchewn (8-5) continues to struggle. The Roughriders dropped their fourth consecutive game Sunday in Montreal (5-8), losing 17-12. They have failed to cover the spread in seven of their past eght games after beginning the season 5-0 ATS.
The Alouettes snapped a three-game losing streak, and they have now covered back-to-back contests, and five of the past seven outings.
It has been a tale of two seasons for Hamilton (5-8). They opened the season 0-5 ATS, before covering six in a row. However, they are back to failure, going 0-2 ATS over their past two games. They have alternated wins and losses in their past six games.
Toronto (9-4) continues to be the class of the East Division, winning their fourth consecutive game straight-up. The Argonauts have also covered four in a row, and the 'over' has cashed in each of their past four outings.
The Argos won in Edmonton (3-10), posting their sixth consecutive victory on the road. On the flip side, the Eskimos have won just one of their seven home games.
Winnipeg (2-11) continues to slide, as they dropped their third straight game against the BC Lions (9-4) by a 53-17 count. The Blue Bombers have failed to cover in three straight, and six of their past seven.

CFL Betting Notes - Week 15

A couple of upsets here and there in Week 14 of the CFL regular season have helped to tighten things up in the race to this year’s Grey Cup Playoffs. Winnipeg was no match for British Columbia last Friday night in a 53-17 drubbing as a 5½ -point home underdog. However, Calgary started things off on Saturday with a 35-11 victory as a one-point road underdog against Hamilton.
Toronto continued its impressive run on the road with a 34-22 win over Edmonton as a one-point favorite to close-out Saturday’s games. Saskatchewan’s shocking losing streak reached four games with Sunday’s 17-12 loss to Montreal as a 3½ -point favorite on the road.
The following is a brief betting preview for this week’s games in the CFL with the opening pointspread and ‘over/under’ lines provided by 5Dimes.
Friday, Oct. 5
Hamilton Tiger-Cats vs. Toronto Argonauts
Point-spread: Toronto -4
Total: 55
The rubber meets the road in Friday’s East Division clash with the Tiger-Cats trailing Toronto by three games in the title race. They are 6-7 both straight-up and against the spread this season after going 2-3 SU (3-2 ATS) in their last five games. The total has gone OVER in three of those five games.
The Argonauts are coming off a four-game road trip in which they went a perfect 4-0 both SU and ATS. The defending champs are now 9-4 SU (8-5 ATS) on the year and have already clinched a berth in this season’s playoffs. The total has gone OVER in their last four games. Toronto returns home where it is 3-3 SU and 2-4 ATS in six previous games this year.
These two opened the regular season against one another with the Argonauts coming away with a 39-34 victory as 3½ -point favorites at home. The total went OVER the 56½ points. Hamilton is 1-4 both SU and ATS in its last four road games against the Argonauts and the total has gone OVER in the last five meetings overall.
Saskatchewan Roughriders vs. British Columbia Lions
Point-spread: BC -3½
Total: 52½
The Roughriders’ current skid has dropped them to third in the West at 8-5 SU (6-7 ATS) and two games in back of Calgary for the division lead. The total has stayed UNDER in three of the four losses after going OVER in six of their first nine games. Saskatchewan is averaging 29.8 points a game this season, but that number has dropped dramatically to just 19 points during this recent slide.
BC continues to press the Stampeders for the lead in the West with three straight victories both SU and ATS in improve to 9-4 SU (7-6 ATS) on the year. The Lions are a perfect 6-0 SU at home this season and 4-2 ATS. The total has stayed UNDER in four of those six home games. Quarterback Travis Lulay remains questionable for Friday night after missing the last two games with a shoulder injury.
These two met just two weeks ago with BC squeezing-out a 24-22 victory as a six-point road underdog. The total stayed UNDER the 53-point line. The Lions are 7-1 SU in their last eight home games against Saskatchewan and 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings at home. The total has stayed UNDER in 10 of the last 11 meetings in BC.
Saturday, Oct. 6
Montreal Alouettes vs. Edmonton Eskimos
Point-spread: Edmonton -3
Total: 51
Montreal’s win this past Sunday breathed new life into its postseason plans, but it is still three games below .500 at 5-8 SU. It is 7-6 ATS with the total staying UNDER in seven of the 13 games. The Alouettes are the second-lowest scoring team in the CFL with an average of 23.2 points a game.
Edmonton desperately needs to win this game to have any chance of making the postseason as a crossover team from the West. Last week’s loss left it two games in back of Montreal for that sixth and final playoff spot at 3-10 SU. The Eskimos are 6-7 ATS this season and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games. The total has gone OVER in eight of their last 10 games.
The Alouettes won the first meeting this season 32-27 as four-point home favorites with the total going OVER the 48½ -point line. Montreal has dominated this series over the past several seasons with a 9-1 SU mark in the last 10 meetings and an 8-2 record ATS. The total has gone OVER in eight of the last 11 meetings in Edmonton.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers vs. Calgary Stampeders
Point-spread: Calgary -16
Total: 54½
Winnipeg is left to play the role of spoiler this season after losing 11 of their first 13 games. It is 4-9 ATS with the total going OVER in six of seven home games while staying UNDER in five of six contests on the road. The Blue Bombers remain the lowest scoring team in the CFL while allowing the most points on defense.
Calgary continues to stampede its way to the West Division title with five SU victories in its last six games. It is now a CFL-best 10-3 SU on the year and a profitable 8-5 ATS. The total has gone OVER in five of its six home games. The Stampeders have scored 35 points or more in seven games this year.
The Blue Bombers lost the first meeting this season as 5½ -point home underdogs in a 37-24 setback in Week 5. Calgary has won nine of the last 10 games in this series SU, but the record ATS in this matchup is an even 4-4-2 during this stretch. The total has gone OVER in four of the last six meetings.
Week 15 CFL
Hamilton (6-7) @ Toronto (9-4) — Surging Argonauts won/covered all four games on road swing, scoring 33.8 ppg, after losing last two at home; they beat TiCats 39-34 (-3.5) in season opener, holding Hamilton to FG in second half after trailing 31-24 at half. Toronto is 3-3 at home, 2-4 as home favorite, winning here by 5-26-3 points. Argos won last four series games, scoring 40 ppg with all four games going over total. Underdogs are 11-8 SU in last 19 series games, 13-6 vs spread. TiCats lost last four visits here, by 17-14-3-5 points. Hamilton is 5-3 in last eight games (6-2 vs spread) after a 1-4 start; they covered their last four road games, with four of their six road tilts decided by 5 or less points. Three of last four Hamilton road games went over the total.
Saskatchewan (8-5) @ British Columbia (9-4) — Sliding Roughriders lost last four games, with two home losses and one at dreadful Winnipeg, but can still tie for second in West here; they lost 24-22 (-6) at home to Lions two weeks ago, despite outgaining BC by 74 yards- they were -2 in turnovers. Riders led at halftime in three of their last four losses; they’ve lost last four visits here, by 6-13-19-11 points. Last eight series games stayed under total, with home side winning 12 of last 16. Lions are +7 in turnovers the last two weeks, after being -16 up to that point; they’ve won/covered last three games behind backup QB Demarco (played at ODU), scoring 37.7 ppg. BC is 6-0 at home, 4-2 as home favorite, winning home tilts by 8-10-7-4-3-22 points.
Montreal (5-8) @ Edmonton (3-10) — Eskimos were outscored 33-7 in second half by Toronto last week, blowing 15-1 lead and chance for third win in row; Alouettes (-4) beat Edmonton 32-27 in Week 5 for their 7th straight series win (six of seven by 10+ points). Als won last three visits here, by 10-13-13 points, as dogs covered four of last five in series played here. Over is 3-0-1 in last four series games. Montreal snapped 3-game skid last week by upsetting Riders 17-12; they’re 2-4 on road, winning by 5 at Winnipeg, 11 at Toronto. Not often you see a 5-8 team with a +12 turnover margin. Eskimos are 2-9 in last 11 games, with both wins over cellar-dwelling Winnipeg; Edmonton is 1-6 at home, 1-4 as home dogs, losing at home by 21-14-1-3-10-12 points. Eight of their last ten games went over the total.
Winnipeg (2-11) @ Calgary (10-3) — Dreadful Bombers lost 10 of last 11 games, covered one of last seven; they lost last three road games by 23-23-18 points, after covering first three on foreign soil. Winnipeg is -9 in turnovers their last three games, but they did upset Riders four weeks ago, so Calgary better not be asleep here. Stampeders (-5.5) won 37-24 in Manitoba in Week 5, outgaining Bombers 490-284 in game that was just 17-14 at half; Stamps won last eight series games, covering last three. Six of last nine series games went over total. Calgary won five of last six games; they got upset by Argos in last home game after winning first five. Stamps are 0-3 vs spread in last three home games, with home wins this year by 12-11-15-3-4 points. Five of last seven Stampeder games stayed under the total.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Toronto Argonuats (-4, 56)
The Toronto Argonauts return from their four-game road trip to host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Friday as part of back-to-back games between the East Division rivals. Toronto clinched a playoff spot with its sixth straight road victory last week and hopes to translate some of that away success to Rogers Centre, where it is 3-3. Argonauts running back Chad Kackert was named offensive player of the week after recording 155 rushing yards and two touchdowns in his return from injury against Edmonton.
The Tiger-Cats were dismantled at home by the Calgary Stampeders last week as starting quarterback Henry Burris threw three interceptions and backup Dan LeFevour tossed two. Without an effective passing game, Hamilton was held to its lowest point total since being shut out by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Week 4. The Tiger-Cats trail the Argonauts by six points for the East Division lead, meaning the next two games will go a long way toward determining who earns a bye in the opening round of the playoffs.
ABOUT THE TIGER-CATS (6-7): Burris leads the league with 3,899 passing yards, while running back C.J. Gable has 569 rushing yards as part of 1,047 from scrimmage. Wide receiver Andy Fantuz has 678 receiving yards in an injury-shortened season, but on pace for his second career 1,000-yard campaign. "I think I'll continue getting better,” Fantuz told the Hamilton Spectator. “I feel like a lot of subtle parts of my game have already got a lot better and have been fine-tuned this year." Hamilton added another speedy wide receiver in Brandon Banks, who spent three seasons with the NFL’s Washington football team.
ABOUT THE ARGONAUTS (9-4): Kick returner Trent Guy was named special teams player of the week after returning four kicks for 131 yards, including a 65-yard return in the first quarter. Slotback Chad Owens and quarterback Ricky Ray remain out with injuries, but quarterback Zach Collaros is gaining confidence with every game, leading a 21-point rally against Edmonton in the second half last week. "It just goes to show the kind of character we have on this team," coach Scott Milanovich said. "Nobody here believes a game is over until there are zeros on the clock.''

Saskatchewan Roughriders at BC Lions (-3, 52.5)
The Saskatchewan Roughriders are in a tailspin after their franchise-record start to the season, dropping four straight games and sitting third in the West Division. The Roughriders will have a chance to make up some ground on a team that passed them when they visit the BC Lions on Friday. Saskatchewan’s offense has looked lost without league-leading running back Kory Sheets, who was on pace to break the CFL record for rushing yardage in a season before suffering a knee injury three weeks ago.
The Lions defeated the Roughriders 24-22 in Week 13 as part of a perfect two-game road swing to bring a three-game winning streak back to BC Place, where they are 6-0 in 2013 and have not lost in 12 regular season games. BC scored three defensive touchdowns in last week’s victory against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, which took the pressure off backup quarterback Thomas DeMarco. DeMarco completed 15-of-21 passes with one touchdown starting in place of Travis Lulay, who will miss at least two more weeks with a shoulder injury.
ABOUT THE ROUGHRIDERS (8-5): Saskatchewan has been held to 34 points in two full games without Sheets. Quarterback Darian Durant completed 59-of-98 passes for 665 yards over that span, throwing three touchdowns and three interceptions, but the Roughriders running game was non-existent, totaling 54 yards. The defense is hurting as well without linebacker Renauld Williams, who led the team in tackles and sacks before being placed on the nine-game injured list. Slotback Chris Getzlaf is on pace for a career year with 861 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
ABOUT THE LIONS (9-4): Linebacker Adam Bighill was named defensive player of the week after recording 10 tackles, one sack and forcing two fumbles against the Blue Bombers. Bighill returned one of those fumbles for a touchdown. Cornerbacks Dante Marsh and Cord Parks also scored touchdowns off turnovers. Lulay expressed confidence in DeMarco’s abilities Monday and said he hopes to resume throwing soon. "The swelling and inflammation stuff needs to go down and that's kind of where we're at,'' Lulay said. "We're getting to the tail end of that where I'm getting my range of motion back. Now it's a buildup to the strengthening and the throwing again.''

Montreal Alouettes at Edmonton Eskimos (-3, 50.5)
The Montreal Alouettes may be struggling to replace key injuries on offense, but their defense is keeping them competitive. Montreal will hope for another strong defensive showing when it visits the struggling Edmonton Eskimos on Saturday. Alouettes linebacker Chip Cox ended last week’s 17-12 road victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders with an interception - one of three by Montreal, which looks fearsome at the linebacker position after welcoming Kyries “Angry Bird” Hebert back from injury.
Edmonton experienced the highs and lows of a big comeback after being on both sides of one over the past two weeks. The Eskimos stormed back from a 20-point deficit on the road against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, only to squander their own 21-point lead at home against the Toronto Argonauts last week. The biggest concern in Edmonton’s loss to the Argonauts was the health of starting quarterback Mike Reilly, who left in the first quarter with what was deemed a concussion and is uncertain to start going forward.
ABOUT THE ALOUETTES (5-8): Quarterback Josh Neiswander appears to be the de facto starter for Montreal with Anthony Calvillo and Tanner Marsh sidelined. However, Neiswander’s mediocre play (74-for-128 passing with five touchdowns and five interceptions) has left the door open for former Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith, who completed his first pass with the Alouettes for 54 yards last week. Defensive end John Bowman leads the team with eight sacks, and the return of Hebert - who has seven sacks - could create some healthy competition for Montreal’s pass rush.
ABOUT THE ESKIMOS (3-10): Veteran pivot Kerry Joseph replaced Reilly last week and completed 13-of-26 passes with one touchdown and two interceptions. Losing Reilly could neutralize Edmonton’s best offensive weapon in slotback Fred Stamps, who leads the league with 1,038 receiving yards. Reilly also leads the team in rushing with 539 yards. On defense, nine sacks by defensive end Marcus Howard lead the team, while defensive back Chris Thompson has caught a team-leading three interceptions and recovered one fumble for 63 yards.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Calgary Stampeders (-16, 54)
The Calgary Stampeders have the best record in the CFL after battling through injuries to go 4-1 in September. Calgary will try to keep its momentum going when it hosts the struggling Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Saturday. Veteran quarterback Kevin Glenn started the last game for the Stampeders and threw three touchdowns in a dominating 35-11 victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, while quarterback Drew Tate recorded a rushing touchdown as he continues to rehabilitate from an elbow injury.
A deflated Winnipeg team was manhandled 53-17 at home by the BC Lions last week after the Blue Bombers blew a 20-point lead at home against the Edmonton Eskimos a week prior. A road trip might seem like just the right thing for Winnipeg, but its road record is 1-5 - almost as bad as its 1-6 showing at home. Quarterback Max Hall started the last game for the Blue Bombers, who have alternated between Hall and Justin Goltz as they search for a solution to their league-worst offense, which has produced 268 points.
ABOUT THE BLUE BOMBERS (2-11): Hall will start Saturday, but will need a strong performance to avoid being replaced by Goltz. Defensive end Alex Hall leads the league with 15 sacks after posting nine in his first CFL season. The league record for sacks in a season is 26.5, meaning Hall will need another 12 in his final five games to break it. Linebacker Henoc Muamba leads the team with 76 tackles.
ABOUT THE STAMPEDERS (10-3): Kicker Rene Paredes and running back Jon Cornish were named players of the month for September. Paredes earned special teams honours after making 12-of-13 field goals from Weeks 11-14, while Cornish was named top Canadian player after rushing for 398 yards in that span. Slotback Jabari Arthur has filled in admirably for the injured Nik Lewis, with four catches for 103 yards and two touchdowns last week against Hamilton.
