After leading Central Michigan to a MAC Championship Kelly took over Cincinnati and has now led the Bearcats to its best ranking in school history. The Bearcats cruised to wins over Rutgers and Southeast Missouri State to open the season and in the last two weeks, Cincinnati has narrowly defeated Oregon State and Fresno State. Tony Pike is quietly building a Heisman resume, as he has thrown for 1,223 yards and 11 touchdowns in four games. Pike ranks fourth in the nation in passing yards and third in passing touchdowns. Mardy Gilyard has caught 32 passes for 442 yards and six touchdowns on the year to help Pike’s stats. The Bearcats defense has picked off nine passes on the year, which leads the Big East. Cincinnati also ranks second in the conference in points allowed at 14 per-game.
The RedHawks have not had much to be excited about this year under first-year coach Mike Haywood. Miami is 0-4 and has been outscored 45-167 in the four games. Daniel Raudabaugh and Zac Dysert have split time at quarterback, but combined to throw just four touchdowns and nine interceptions. The lone highlight of the season for Miami on offense has been Armand Robinson, who has caught 23 passes for 264 yards in three games. The RedHawks rank last in the MAC in points scored and are last in the conference in points allowed.
