Miami (Ohio) at Ohio: What Bettors Need to Know
By David Payne Purdum
Covers.com

Miami (Ohio) RedHawks at Ohio Bobcats (-9), 7 p.m. ET, ESPN2

With a berth in the MAC Championship Game already clinched, Ohio hosts instate rival Miami.

The Bobcats (8-3 SU, 5-6 ATS) sewed up the MAC East with last week’s 29-28 win at Bowling Green on Wednesday. Ohio was a 7-point road favorite in that game and failed to cover the spread for only the second time in its last 11 games in November.

The RedHawks (4.7 SU, 6-5 ATS), the defending conference champs, are just playing out the string and have nothing to lose. Last week’s 24-21 home loss to Western Michigan ended Miami’s bowl hopes. The RedHawks are 0-5 ATS in their last five meetings with Ohio.

The Line

Ohio opened as a 7-point home favorite on Saturday at the Las Vegas Wynn. Offshore, the Bobcats opened at -7.5 at a lot of shops Monday but they were set as high as -9 later Monday evening.

Ohio is 10-6 ATS as a home favorite under Solich. Miami is 0-4 ATS in its last four games as a road underdog of 3.5-10.0.

Weather

There is an 80 percent chance of thunderstorms throughout the evening with temperatures in low 50s and a 10-20 mph SW wind.

Statistically Speaking

Miami has the worst rushing attack in the nation, but the second-best passing attack in the MAC, led by quarterback Zac Dysert.

The unbalanced RedHawks could be hard pressed to move the football against an Ohio defense that ranks 20th in the nation in pass efficiency defense.

In contrast, the Bobcats are extremely balanced, featuring quarterback Tyler Tettleton and future NFL receiver LaVon Brazill.

Last Meeting

Ohio has won five straight overall, including an emphatic 34-13 beat down of the RedHawks in Miami last October. The margin of victory is skewed a little by six RedHawks’ turnovers, but there was no doubting which program had the most talent at the time.

The RedHawks managed just 14 yards on the ground and had the ball for 11 minutes less than the Bobcats.

Injury Report

Neither team is reporting any recent significant injuries.

Trends

Ohio is 28-13-2 ATS in last 43 games following a straight-up win.

Over is 9-2 in Bobcats’ last 11 games in November.

Favorite is 6-1 ATS in last seven meetings.
