Game of the Day: Ohio at Miami (Ohio)
By Covers.com

Ohio Bobcats vs. Miami (Ohio) RedHawks (+2.5, OFF)

Tuesday night MACtion brings a rivalry game as Miami (Ohio) takes on the Ohio Bobcats in a conference game that is extremely important for Ohio as they look to get to six wins and an outside chance of bowl eligibility while Miami look to get a win over the in-state rivals as a way of getting a moral victory on what has been a long season for the RedHawks who are 2-9 going into Tuesday's clash.

Ohio did their best to stay in the MAC East race for as long as possible, but at 3-4 the dream of an improbable title game berth was dashed as Bowling Green has clinched their spot in the game with a 5-2 record. However they will have an outside chance at getting a bowl bid if they can beat the RedHawks in a game that the Bobcats won easily last season in a 41-16 blowout.

The RedHawks will remember that blowout on their home turf as they host the Bobcats for a second straight year, but five straight losses will present a momentum challenge for Miami (Ohio). If they are to upset the Bobcats goal of reaching the magic number of six points, they will need to turn things around in their 2014 finale in a big way.

LINE HISTORY: The line has fluctuated between 1.5 and 2 depending on the book with the O/U off the board at the time of writing.

INJURY REPORT: Ohio: WR Brendan Cope, S Nathan Carpenter, TE Brennan Borland, and WR Papi White are the questionables for the Bobcats. Miami-Ohio: LB Kent Kern is the only questionable player on the Redhawks injury report going into Tuesday.

WEATHER REPORT: The forecast is calling for a chilly, cloudy evening in Oxford with temperatures of 30 degrees Fahrenheit expected at kickoff.

ABOUT OHIO: (5-6, 5-6 ATS, 3-8 O/U):
The Bobcats are very much a home team, which makes things tricky for Ohio backers looking to take advantage of the slim -2 line for the 5-6 team Tuesday. Ohio are just 1-4 ATS away from home, and are just 2-3 which is why they are still chasing a sixth win while being out of the MAC East race going into the final week. A low scoring team at 20.2 points per game, the Bobcats lack of ability in putting the ball into the endzone is a big reason why they are 8-3 on Unders in 2014.

Running back AJ Oullette is the player to watch on offense for the Bobcats as he leads Ohio in touchdowns with nine, rushing for 689 yards which is less impressive, but if Ohio are going to win they will need Oullette to find the endzone on a few occasions to get the rivalry game win.

ABOUT MIAMI (OHIO) (2-9, 7-4 ATS, 5-6 O/U): The RedHawks come into their final game of the season as a team that covers often despite being one of the worst teams in the NCAA in the wins department. Most of Miami (Ohio)'s covers have came as underdogs of 10 or more, but they have got the job done as five point faves against Kent State and will look to do so as less than a field goal underdogs in their home finale against the Bobcats.

Despite not getting wins, the RedHawks are 21st in the country in passing yard average, augmented by soon to be 1000 yard wide receiver David Frazier who needs 99 yards to get to the magic number and will likely receiver plenty of targets from quarterback Andrew Hendrix. Hendrix has matched a magic number himself already, reaching 3000 yards going into the regular season finale at 3062 passing yards. If the RedHawks are to upset their Ohio rivals they will need a big game from their quarterback.

TRENDS:

Miami (Ohio) are 3-1 ATS in their last four games, with the Under going 3-1 in that same span.
Ohio haven't broken 21 points in their last three games, winning just one of those two contests.
Ohio are 3-0 as favorites in 2014.

NCAAF Week 14

Ohio U won seven of last eight games with Miami, with underdogs 3-0 vs spread in last three. Bobcats won three of last four visits here, but in last visit, lost 23-20 (-7) in 2012. Miami is 2-9 this year but covered 4 of last 7 games; they've allowed 31+ points in eight of 11 games, are 1-1 as home underdogs this season. Ohio U needs this win to be bowl eligible; they've lost four of last six games, are 1-4 on road this year, are 2-1 as a favorite. Bobcats are 4-0 when they score 23+, 1-6 when they do not. RedHawks covering with ease despite dropping games

The Miami (Ohio) RedHawks have not been a productive moneyline team this season (2-9 straight up) but they have provided some excellent spread value as of late.

The RedHawks are 4-1 against the spread heading into their Rivalry Week matchup against Ohio Tuesday.

Oddsmakers presently have the Bobcats as 2.5-point road faves for the contest.

Chilly, but clear night in Oxford for MAC action

It's going to be a chilly night in Oxford Tuesday for the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks' matchup against the Ohio Bobcats for Rivalry Week.

At kickoff, a temperature of roughly 30 degrees Fahrenheit is expected for gametime. It doesn't look like the elements will have much of an affect, however, as forecasts are calling for little wind and a zero percent of precipitation as of Monday evening.

The Bobcats are presently -2.5 road faves for the all-Ohio affair.

Miami-Ohio is
3-8-1 ATS last 12 following an ATS win.
4-1 ATS last 5 overall.

Outlook

Ohio University is coming off a tough, 21-14 home loss last week to Northern Illinois as a 1-point underdog. Ohio can become bowl eligible for the sixth straight season with a win. The Ohio offense centers around true freshman A.J. Ouellette, who has seven touchdowns, 689 yards and is coming off back-to-back 100-yard rushing games. Ohio quarterback Derrius Vick is completing 59.2 percent of his passes for six touchdowns and three picks with 1,035 yards. He also has 329 rushing yards and a score. The top vertical receiver is Chase Cochran, who has 20 catches for 425 yards and one score. Their defense has allowed 24 or less points in five of their last eight games. They allow just 20.2 points, 401.4 yards and has forced 20 sacks and 17 turnovers. Quentin Poling leads Ohio with 84 tackles, while Jovon Johnson has nine tackles for loss.

Miami-Ohio has covered four of their last five, but they've lost two consecutive games straight up. On Nov. 15, they fell at Central Michigan, 34-27, but covered the 18. The Redhawks are led by quarterback Andrew Hendrix, who has thrown for 3,062 yards, with 22 TDs and eight picks, but has only completed 49.3 percent of his passes. He does rank second in the MAC in total offensive yards per game. David Frazier and Rokeem Williams combine for over 1,500 yards in receiving and eight touchdowns. The ground game is almost irrelevant as they average just 3.2 yards per carry with Dawan Scott leading the way with 381 yards. Defensively, the Redhawks allow 32.5 points, 441.6 yards and they've forced 19 turnovers (15 sacks). Heath Harding leads the Redhawks with 87 tackles, while senior Quentin Rollins leads the team with five interceptions. The bigger issue for Miami-Ohio is their run defense, which allows 202 yards per game.

Ohio vs. Miami (OH) Betting Preview and Pick
By: Craig Williams
Sportingnews.com

Ohio (5-6 SU, 5-6 ATS) is a win away from bowl eligibility and will try to get it against in-state rival Miami (Ohio) (2-9 SU, 7-4 ATS), which has been a tougher opponent than its win-loss record indicates.

Week 14 of the 2014 college football season gets underway with Tuesday night MACtion (7 p.m. ET, ESPN2).

Line: Ohio -3, Total: 48.5

Line movement: Ohio opened as a 1-point favorite at The Wynn Las Vegas on Sunday, but the number climbed in early wagering. On the morning of the game, most shops -- including The Wynn -- were dealing -3, with a few hanging at -2.5 Visit our live odds page for updated lines and totals.

Trends that matter: The Bobcats have alternated wins (both SU and ATS) over their last five. Every SU win/loss has come with a corresponding ATS win/loss. … The Redhawks are 7-4 ATS, including covers in four of their last five. … The Bobcats have trended to the UNDER this season, staying below the total in eight of 11 games. The same can't be said for the Redhawks, who are 5-6 O/U.

Ohio beat its in-state rival 41-16 last season, but barely failed to cover the 26-point spread. The total went OVER 50, but the previous four meetings stayed UNDER. While Miami has covered the spread in three straight meetings, it won just one of those games outright, 23-20 as a 6.5-point home dog in 2012. Ohio has won seven of the last eight meetings outright.

Bowl streak on the line: Ohio has been to a bowl game in each of the last five seasons, but that streak is in jeopardy heading into the final regular-season contest. Their record stands at 5-6, and they need one more victory to be eligible for postseason action. They'll lean on junior quarterback Derrius Vick, who can threaten defenses through the air and on the ground.

Ohio freshman RB A.J. Ouelette has a team-leading seven TDs and has gone over 100 yards in two consecutive games. Per SB Nation, Miami has struggled to contain the run, allowing an average of 245 yards on the ground over its last two games. But the Redhawks allow 85 fewer rushing yards at home than they do on the road.

Why they've been covering: Miami (OH) has a strong ATS record, as it tends to keep games close. The only game the Redhawks have really been blown out was at Western Michigan on Nov. 1, and they're often substantial underdogs. At home, they're just 2-3 SU and ATS, with the covers coming as a 5-point favorite over Kent State (10-3) and as a 24-point dog vs. Marshall (a 42-27 loss).

Miami boasts the nation's 21st-ranked passing offense, racking up 283.2 yards per game. Defensively, Ohio allows 265.4 yards through the air, 108th in the country.

Injuries : Ohio WR Brendan Cope (undisclosed) questionable

Weather: The forecast is calling for a low of 27 with winds from 10-15 mph and a zero percent chance of rain. Check weather.com for an updated forecast.

The Linemakers lean: Ohio has dominated this series and has all the motivation it needs on Tuesday night, as a win makes the Bobcats bowl eligible. Sure, Miami has been solid against the number this season, but Ohio is being asked to lay a field goal or less against a team with just two wins on the season. Ohio has covered as underdogs spreads of +18, +13.5, +14.5, +30, +31 and +24 -- tonight's task is far different.

Also, while the Redhawks have covered three meetings in a row against their rival, the Bobcats are typically laying significantly more points. Ohio's lone win on the road this season came as a 3-point dog at Kent State (17-14), and it was also a dog in its other four away games. We'll lay the short price here.
