Tuesday's NCAAF Action: What Bettors Need to Know
By Covers.com

Bowling Green Falcons at Miami (Ohio) RedHawks (+23.5, OFF)

Coming off back-to-back heartwrenching losses to Mississippi State and Toledo, the Bowling Green Falcons need a bounceback in the worst way. Miami of Ohio presents a golden opportunity for that as the Mid-American Conference rivals meet Tuesday night at Yager Stadium. Bowling Green dropped both games by a combined four points, but should respond well against a RedHawks team still looking for its first win of the season.

The Falcons fell behind 21-0 to Toledo in its previous game, then roared back to score 25 straight points before allowing Terrance Owens' go-ahead 11-yard touchdown pass to Alonzo Russell with 1:22 remaining. Despite the setback, Bowling Green remains in the hunt for the MAC East title. No such aspirations exist for Miami (Ohio), which was thumped 41-16 in Ohio 10 days ago and is averaging a paltry 10.9 points per game.

LINE: Bowling Green opened as a 24.5-point favorite, but the line has dropped one point since.

WEATHER: Temperatures will be in the low-50s with partly cloudy skies.

ABOUT BOWLING GREEN (5-3, 3-1 MAC): While the defense gets most of the attention - and rightfully so - sophomore quarterback Matt Johnson is quietly putting together a terrific season. Johnson has thrown for 1,827 yards - good for fourth in the conference - and while he has just nine touchdown passes, he has been only been picked off three times. Travis Greene has also been solid offensively, ranked third in the MAC with 906 rushing yards.

ABOUT MIAMI (OHIO) (0-8, 0-4 MAC): The numbers are bad across the board for the RedHawks, who are one of only a handful of winless teams in the Football Bowl Subdivision. Miami ranks dead last in the 13-team conference in total yards per game at 228.1 - 60 fewer than the closest team (Massachusetts) and more than 100 fewer than 11th-place Central Michigan. Quarterback Austin Boucher has thrown at least one TD pass in five straight games.

TRENDS:

* Falcons are 8-1 ATS in their last nine road games vs. teams with losing home records.
* Redhawks are 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight conference games.
* Under is 12-3 in Miami's last 15 games following a SU win.

Ohio Bobcats at Buffalo Bulls (-4, OFF)

First place in the Mid-American Conference's East Division is at stake Tuesday night when the Buffalo Bills host the Ohio Bobcats at UB Stadium. The Bulls have reeled off six consecutive wins since dropping consecutive decisions to ranked foes Ohio State and Baylor. The Bobcats should present a formidable challenge, having won five of six - including back-to-back games in which they outscored Eastern Michigan and Miami (Ohio) by a combined 53 points.

Tuesday's matchup pits two of the conference's most formidable pass offenses against one another. Ohio quarterback Tyler Tettleton has already thrown for more than 2,000 yards and is coming off a 306-yard, three-touchdown performance against the RedHawks. He'll be opposed by Buffalo QB Joe Licata, who threw two touchdown passes in a win over Kent State on Oct. 26 and hasn't been intercepted in his last four games.

LINE: Buffalo is a four-point favorite after opening at -2.5.

WEATHER: Temperatures will be in the mid-40s with wind blowing north across the length of the field at 5 mph.

ABOUT OHIO (6-2, 3-1 MAC): The Bobcats have plenty at stake Tuesday beyond the ability to move into a first-place tie with Buffalo atop the east. A victory would move Ohio over the .500 mark all-time for the first time since the start of the 1995 season. The Bobcats will also be looking to surpass the 40-point plateau for the third consecutive contest - something they haven't done since 2000.

ABOUT BUFFALO (6-2, 4-0 MAC): As prolific as Licata has been this season, the Bulls have been equally dependent on standout running back Branden Oliver. The talented senior exploded for 216 rushing yards in a victory over UMass back on Oct. 19 to become the school's all-time yardage leader, passing current Green Bay Packers running back James Starks. Oliver ranks fourth in the conference in both rushing yards (874) and rushing touchdowns (nine).

TRENDS:

* Bobcats are 7-1-1 in their last nine games following a bye week.
* Bulls are 5-0 in their last five games overall.
* Over is 5-0 in the last five meetings.

Tuesday's Tip Sheet
By Brian Edwards
VegasInsider.com

Ohio at Buffalo

The lead in the MAC East will be on the line Tuesday night when Buffalo (6-2 straight up, 6-2 against the spread) plays host to Ohio. The Bulls are 4-0 in league play, while the Bobcats and Bowling Green are both one game back in the East with 3-1 conference records.

As of Monday afternoon, most betting shops had Buffalo favored by 3 ½ or four points. A few offshore books had the total at 54. 5Dimes had the Bobcats available on the money line for a +145 return (risk $100 to win $145).

In his fourth season at the helm, Jeff Quinn has his best team. Buffalo won just nine combined game in the three previous years, but it is in the midst of a six-game winning streak after losing its first two games on the road against top-10 teams Ohio St. (40-20) and Baylor (70-13). The Bulls have covered the spread in five consecutive victories that have each come by margins of 20 points or more.

Buffalo blasted Kent St. by a 41-21 count in its last outing on Oct. 26, easily taking the cash as a three-point road ‘chalk.’ Brandon Oliver was the catalyst with 184 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 31 carries. Sophomore quarterback Joe Licata threw for 285 yards and a pair of TDs without committing a turnover.

Ohio (6-2 SU, 5-3 ATS) won four straight games both SU and ATS after getting smashed 49-7 at Louisville in its season opener. The Bobcats’ winning streak was snapped in a 26-23 home loss to Central Michigan on Oct. 12, but they have won back-to-back games since then.

Ohio is led by senior QB Tyler Tettleton, who has completed 68.0 percent of his passes for 2,029 yards with a 17/6 touchdown-to-interception ratio through eight games. Senior RB Beau Blankenship has rushed for a team-high 550 yards and four TDs.

Licata and Oliver are enjoying outstanding seasons for Buffalo. Licata has connected on 60.2 percent of his throws for 1,569 yards with a 14/4 TD-INT ratio. Oliver has rushed for 874 yards and nine TDs while averaging 4.9 yards per carry.

Ohio owns a 13-15-1 spread record in 29 games as a road underdog during Frank Solich’s nine-year tenure.

Buffalo is 5-7 ATS as a home favorite on Quinn’s watch.

The ‘over’ is 6-2 overall for Buffalo, 3-1 in its home games. The Bulls’ games have played to an average combined score of 53.9 points per game.

The ‘under’ is 6-2 overall for Ohio, 2-1 in its three previous road assignments. The Bobcats have seen their games average a combined score of 55.4 PPG.

The ‘over’ has cashed in five consecutive head-to-head meetings between these schools and seven of the last eight.

Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPN2.

B.E.’s Bonus Nuggets

Gamblers have a pair of MAC games to wager on Tuesday night. Bowling Green is favored by 23 ½ at Miami (OH.) in an ESPNU broadcast at 8:00 p.m. Eastern. As noted above, the Falcons can pull into a first-place tie in the division with a win and a Buffalo loss. The RedHawks will be without starting QB Austin Boucher (7/8 TD-INT ratio) due to a knee injury.

Bowling Green has seen the ‘under’ cash in six straight games.

Wisconsin is the nation’s best ATS team with a 7-0-1 spread record.

Miami RB Duke Johnson broke is ankle in Saturday’s loss at FSU and will miss the rest of the season. Johnson rushed for a team-high 920 yards and six TD in 2013.

Wake Forest senior WR Michael Campanaro has played his last game for the Demon Deacons. Campanaro suffered a broken collarbone in a 13-0 loss at Syracuse. He had 67 receptions for 803 yards and six TDs as a senior. Campanaro finishes his career at Wake Forest’s as the third-leading receiver in school history, behind only Ricky Proehl and Desmond Clark.

The ‘under’ is 8-1 overall for Wake Forest.

ULM’s Kolton Browning and Boise St.’s Grant Hedrick both threw five TD passes apiece without an interception and had a rushing score in leading their respective teams to wins both SU and ATS in Week 10.

The race for national Coach of the Year at this point has got to be between Auburn’s Gus Malzahn and Missouri’s Gary Pinkel.

Florida has beaten Vanderbilt in 22 consecutive head-to-head meetings. The Gators haven’t had a losing season since going 0-10-1 in 1979. They are 4-4 with four games remaining, including a pair of contests (at South Carolina and vs. FSU) in which they’ll be underdogs. In fact. Sportsbook.ag is currently showing the Gamecocks as nine-point favorites vs. UF, while FSU is a 19-point ‘chalk.’ UF hasn’t been a double-digit home underdog to FSU since 1993.
