The Mountaineers are 4-1 this season as it enters its first Big East game while South Florida is 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the Big East. The home team has won the last three in this series with the Bulls winning three of the last four years overall.
Oddsmakers from online sportsbook SBGGLOBAL have made West Virginia a 10-point favorite at home on Thursday night against the Bulls. The over/under has been set at 44.
The opening line had WVU favored by 11.5 points but those odds have slowly worked their way down to 10 points. The over/under odds started at 43 but have climbed a point to 44.
The Mountaineers have been strong statistically in their 4-1 start as they average nearly 400 yards of offense while holding opponents to just 254.6 yards per game. Their lone loss came at the hands of LSU by six points, but the Mountaineers have scored at least 31 points in all three games at home this season. Geno Smith has played very well for WVU, throwing for 1,139 yards and 12 touchdowns with just two interceptions while Noel Devine has rushed for 475 yards and four touchdowns.
South Florida is coming off a 13-9 loss to Syracuse in their conference opener. The Bulls are 0-2 against teams from BCS conferences this season, scoring just 23 points combined in those two games. USF averages 176 yards per game on the ground, but gives up 146.2 rushing yards per game on defense. B.J. Daniels has thrown for 684 yards but has thrown seven interceptions to just four touchdowns. Moise Plancher and Demetris Murray have combined for over 500 rushing yards with five touchdowns.
Trends actually favor USF in this game as they are 4-0 against the spread in their last four meetings with WVU and the underdog is also 4-0 ATS in the last four games. WVU is also just 3-13 ATS in their last 16 games after a straight up win over 20 points or more.
West Virginia is pretty healthy as three players are listed as probable for the game while offensive lineman Nick Kindler is the lone season-long injury, as he is out with a shoulder problem. USF could be without Murray this week as he is questionable with an ankle injury.
Over 10,000 bets have been placed on this Thursday night game with the Mountaineers getting 72% of the bets at -10 against the Bulls.
