NBA | Knicks vs Nets
Play on: Knicks +10 -109 at GTBets

Jack’s Free Pick Friday: New York Knicks +10

It’s time to ‘buy low’ on the Knicks and ’sell high’ on the Nets tonight. The Knicks have gone just 2-20 SU in their last 22 games overall, so the betting public wants nothing to do with them. But they’ve stayed competitive and continue to show up every night.

Indeed, the Knicks have gone 6-3 ATS in their last nine games overall. Only three times have they lost by more than 10 points during this stretch. And they are a rested team as this will be just their 4th game in 12 days today. They’ll show up for their crosstown rivals in the Nets tonight.

The betting public is starting to fall in love with the Nets, who have gone 18-5 SU in their last 23 games overall. It’s starting to show up in their spreads as the Nets are now laying double-digits for the first time all season. I’ll gladly fade them in this price range tonight.

Plays against favorites of 10 or more points (Brooklyn) - after beating the spread by 54 or more points total in their last 10 games, with a winning record on the season are 70-37 (65.4%) ATS over the last five seasons. New York is 10-1 ATS off a home cover where they lost straight up as an underdog over the last three seasons. Bet the Knicks Friday.

NBA | Raptors vs Rockets
Play on: Rockets +1 -115 at betonline

1* Free Play on the Houston Rockets (8:05 EST).

James Harden and the Rockets seem unstoppable right now and I think they’ll keep that streak going against one of the top teams in the East.

The Raptors come in off a 110-106 road loss in Indiana on Wednesday, while the Rockets left Madison Square Garden with a 114-110 win on Wednesday (Harden had 61 points and 15 boards in the victory for Houston).

Houston will also be playing with the added motivation of “revenge” this evening after Toronto took both meetings between the clubs last year.

Note that despite all of their success this season, their play on the road has still been the Raptors “achilles heel” (just 9-14-1 ATS on the road thus far this year.)

The Rockets started the 2018/19 campaign terribly, but they’ve been one of the best teams in the league over the last month, thanks in large part to the incredible play of Harden.

Note as well that Houston has routinely been at its best in front of the home town crowd this season by going 14-9-1 ATS.

Additionally note that the Rockets are 6-2 ATS in their last eight vs. teams with a winning percentage above .600, while Toronto is just 1-5 ATS in its last six following a SU loss.

Consider Houston in this one.

NBA | Wolves vs Jazz
Play on: Jazz -10 -109 at GTBets

1 Unit FREE PLAY on Utah Jazz -10

The injuries keep piling up for the Timberwolves. They’ve been without Jeff Teague and Robert Covington, and Derrick Rose had to leave the game last night with a knee injury. The Timberwolves now have the difficult task of having to play for a second consecutive day in altitude, no less. And they are short-handed right now. The Jazz are rolling having won seven of their last eight games overall with the seven wins coming by 12.4 PPG on average. And Utah is fresh as this will be just its 3rd game in 7 days tonight. Utah is 8-2-1 ATS in its last 11 games after allowing 100 points or more in its previous game. Give me the Jazz.

It's a Big Apple, Atlantic Division battle tonight at Barclays Center when the Knickerbockers make the short jog over to Brooklyn to play the Nets.

I am looking for these division-rivals to play a game that falls just shy of the point total the oddsmakers have posted for this contest.

New York has played Under the total in 5 of their last 7 games overall, that includes each of their last 3 road games. They come into this game 25th in the league in scoring at 107.2 points.

Brooklyn has split their last 8 Over/Under-wise, but in that stretch the Nets happen to be Under the total in 3 of their 4 home games. The Nets head into this game with the 15th ranked scoring offense the NBA, as Brooklyn posts an average of 111.8 points per contest.

The last time these teams met, back on December 8th, it was Brooklyn taking it, 112-104 in a game that landed Under the total of 220 points. That Under was the second in as many meetings this year between the teams - they also held Under back at the end of October in a 115-96 Knicks win - as the Under in the series is now at 4 straight, and 5-2 the last 7 times the teams have played one another.

I know Brooklyn is going to get consistent scoring from D'Angelo Russell, but Spencer Dinwiddie injured his thumb, and his offensive production is now going to be watching from the bench. I am also not so sure New York has that consistent "go to" guy to keep them in this contest. In the end, I think New York will struggle to crack 100 points tonight, and this game will not land Over the total.

Knicks-Nets to hold Under.

4* NEW YORK-BROOKLYN UNDER

Minnesota is looking good as they set foot on Utah's hardwood this Friday night, the Timberwolves handily defeating the Lakers last night, 120-105 for their 3rd straight win.

The problem tonight for the T-Wolves will be the fact they just played last night, and will be playing road game # 3 over their last 4 nights. They also have a home game on Sunday against the same Jazz team they are facing tonight. Based on those facts, and based on the way Utah has been performing on their home-heavy schedule here in the month of January, my money will be on the Jazz to close out this home stand with a win and a cover.

Utah is on a 7-1 straight up run, and they have played just one of those games during their current run away from home. The Jazz has won 6 of their 7 at home, and did cover over the Denver Nuggets their last time out. Donovan Mitchell continues to lead the way for Quin Snyder's team, as he has scored 20 points or more in each of Utah's last 10 games, averaging a lofty 30.3 points per game during the stretch!

Karl Anthony Towns continues to be the lead dog for Minny, and he is fresh off his 12th double-double in his last 15 games last night in the win at Los Angeles. I just wonder how much gas he will have in this game after playing last night? Keep in mind that Minnesota will be going up against the #3 scoring defense in the league tonight, as Utah comes into this last game on the home stand allowing just 105.1 points per game which is 3rd in the NBA.

Utah has covered in 4 of their last 5 games played against teams from the Western Conference, and they have also gone 4-1-1 against the spread when playing on one day's rest.

I say play the Jazz in the front end of this home-and-home with the fatigued Timberwolves.

2* UTAH

My comp winner for Friday night is out of the Big Ten, where I'm laying the road chalk with the Michigan Wolverines against the Indiana Hoosiers.

Tonight's date with Indiana starts a stretch four road games in the next six regular season contests for the Wolverines, so it is important for them to open things on a winning note.

With a 74-63 win at Crisler Center on Jan. 6, the fifth-ranked Wolverines won the first matchup this season and has now won their last five games again the Hoosiers - including a 75-63 win at Assembly Hall.

Since opening up 3-0 in league play, the Hoosiers have lost their last five games. Now they play a team that has won 18 of its first 19 games. And for as mediocre as Michigan has looked of late, I would think this is a good spot for it to wake up and play its best game, and extend its 26-9 ATS streak in Big Ten play.

Isaiah Livers, the Wolverines' sixth man, appears to be back on his game after missing the first meeting due to back spasms. This adds another element the Hoosiers will have to deal with, as Michigan can go small with him in the lineup. And when the Wolverines go small, they become versatile defensively with quickness and speed.

Take the Wolverines here.

5* MICHIGAN

Ivy League battle between Brown and Yale...again!

These schools just played last Saturday at Brown, and it was Yale squeezing past Brown 60-57 as the -2 1/2 point road favorite in that game at Providence. Brown had a pair of opportunities in the closing seconds of that game to tie the score, but could not get their 3-point shot to fall.

Now the schools meet again in New Haven, and it is the Elis/Bulldogs that come in as the -7 points favorites.

Yale has won all 5 of their home games this year - going 3-1 against the spread - and they are on a 7 game straight up winning streak overall, with just a loss at Duke as their lone blemish over their last 11 games overall!

That's solid stuff indeed, but the Bears of Brown are no pushover, as that loss last weekend at home to Yale snapped a 6 game winning streak.

Brown has been able to go 5-2-1 against the spread on the road this season, and their numbers in this series show a 5-3 record the last 8 times these schools have met, and they are also 13-5 overall their last 18 visits to Connecticut.

The Bears are led by Desmond Cambridge who is 3rd in the Ivy League in scoring with an 18.1 points per game average, but was limited to only 7 points on an ugly 3-for-18 night shooting. I smell redemption for Cambridge in this game, and while the Bears may not be able to pull of the outright upset, they are getting enough here for me to believe they can take this second meeting in less than a week down to the wire once again.

Grab the Bears plus the points.

I'm jumping into the Big East tonight for my free play, as I like the Butler Bulldogs to get it done against the Creighton Blue Jays.

I'm not sure how Creighton is laying points, other than the fact the Jays are at home, because Butler has the better defense and should win this game outright.

Butler won the first meeting on Jan. 5, a 15-point shellacking in Indiana. The Bulldogs have had a mediocre start to the their Big East campaign, and come in after an 80-72 loss to Villanova. They're 3-4 in league play, and would love to pull to .500 against another mediocre team.

Creighton is 2-4, and is losing games because it can't seem to stop teams on the offensive end. The Jays, who allow 79.1 points per game and 77.1 at home, have been throttled for an average of 89.6 points over their last five games. In their last two at home, Creighton gave up 90 and 106 points, to Villanova and Marquette, respectively.

Butler's methodical approach will wear down the Jays, and the Bulldogs should steal this road win.

10* FREE NBA PICK (Kings +2)

I'll take my chances here with Sacramento. Not only do I like this Kings team, but I just feel Memphis is a instant fade right now. The Grizzlies are a complete mess right now. They have lost 7 straight and 13 of their last 14 overall. Last time out they lost by 11 at home to a Hornets team that isn't very good on the road. They also lost by 20 at home the game before to the Pelicans, who were playing without their best player in Anthony Davis.

Head J.B. Bickerstaff has came out and said the trade rumors around Conley and Gasol are having a negative impact on this team. I'm not quite sure why people are expecting this team to turn it on against the Kings. Sacramento is improved, but are simply not a team you get excited about playing.

I think Kings will be motivated here. They need this one to have a shot at a potential split on their current 6-game road trip. Give me Sacramento +2!

NBA | Pistons vs Mavs
Play on: Mavs -4½ -109 at GTBets

Mavs

Point guard Dennis Smith Jr. returned to the Dallas Mavericks after an unhappy sabbatical and will again be in the lineup for Friday's game against the visiting Detroit Pistons. Smith missed six straight games due to friction over his role but shared the ball-handling duties with star rookie Luka Doncic in Tuesday's 106-98 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Pistons won for just the eighth time in their past 27 games as power forward Blake Griffin scored 37 points in Wednesday's 98-94 road win over the New Orleans Pelicans. Detroit standout center Andre Drummond (concussion) is likely to miss his fourth straight game.

Dallas SF Harrison Barnes scored 20 points against the Clippers to reach at least 20 for the fourth time in the past six games.

Pistons are 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 games following a straight up win. Mavericks are 14-5 ATS in their last 19 home games.

Mavs get this cover at home.
