The Milwaukee Brewers pulled off a gutsy 7-6 victory over Pittsburgh in 15 innings last night. Trailing 6-4 in the bottom of the 15th, they scored 3 runs to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. That’s exactly the type of win that can give them a ton of confidence moving forward as they try to chase down the Cubs in the NL Central.
The Pirates have gone just 2-9 in their last 11 games overall and cannot be trusted down the stretch as they have fallen out of contention. While Jameson Taillon is a solid starter at 9-9 with a 3.58 ERA in 25 starts this season, he and the Pirates are getting way too much respect from oddsmakers tonight.
Jhoulys Chacin has posted similar numbers to Taillon. Chacin is 13-4 with a 3.58 ERA and 1.166 WHIP in 27 starts this season. He is also 3-0 with a 1.42 ERA and 0.842 WHIP in his last three starts. He has owned the Pirates in three starts against them in 2018, giving up just 3 earned runs in 17 2/3 innings for a 1.53 ERA. He has allowed one earned run or fewer in four of his last five starts against Pittsburgh.
The Pirates are 22-48 in their last 70 road games vs. a team with a winning record. The Brewers are 8-1 in Chacin’s last nine home starts. Milwaukee is 71-27 in its last 98 home meetings with Pittsburgh. Bet the Brewers Saturday.

On paper Wyoming would seem to be the stronger side. But this just in, games aren’t won on paper. Wyoming was a remarkable +24 in turnover margin last season, and yet they somehow managed to lose 5 games. My professional experience has shown me that teams who were beneficiaries of such a huge plus turnover differential season, very seldom come close to matching that prosperity the following year.
It also must be noted, Wyoming has lost 10 straight non-conference road games. Their last win in that role came way back in 2011 when they squeaked by with a 28-27 victory at Bowling Green. By the way, the Cowboys have lost their first road game in each of the last 6 and 15 of their previous 16 seasons.
I believe New Mexico State’s defense will take another giant step in the right direction similar to what we saw last season. That unit will more than do its part in providing the Aggies an ample opportunity to pull off a mild upset. However, momma didn’t raise no fool, and I’ll gladly take the points as an additional bonus. Bet on New Mexico State plus the points for my Saturday 8/25 free pick of the day.

I'll take my chances with the Cubs cashing in a win on the -1.5 run line Saturday. Chicago has found new life with the addition of Daniel Murphy and are coming into this game riding a wave of momentum after another walk-off home run from rookie David Bote. I look for the Cubs offense to put up a big number here, as they will be up against the struggling Luis Castillo, who has a 4.86 ERA in 25 starts overall, 4.07 ERA in his last 3 outings and a ugly 6.18 ERA and 1.516 WHIP in 13 road starts. Chicago will counter with Jose Quintana, who has had his struggles of late, but is coming off a strong start at Pittsburgh and is facing a slumping Reds offense that has scored a whopping 3 runs over their last 3 games combined. Give me the Cubs -1.5 (+130)!

They have also been a profitable bet at home when Wei-Yin Chen pitches, because he has some of the most drastic home/away splits in baseball. Chen is 3-3 with a 2.05 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in 10 home starts this year. He has a 2.08 ERA and 0.81 WHIP in his last three starts coming in. Animal Sanchez is 0-1 with a 4.61 ERA in his last three starts for the Braves. In his only start against Miami this season, Sanchez gave up 5 runs in 5 innings on August 14th just two starts ago.
