Comp play winner for Saturday is Wisconsin to blow-out New Mexico at Camp Randall Stadium.
This is the second of three in a row at home for the Badgers who didn't exactly "crank up the offense" in last week's 34-3 win, but non-cover over Western Kentucky.
New Mexico was a 62-30 winner over someone named Incarnate Word last week in their season opener, but they did so by allowing well over 500 yards of total offense to the visitors. That could well be trouble with Johnathan Taylor always a threat to "take it to the house" anytime he touches the football.
The Badgers do own a money-making 10-5-1 against the spread ledger when laying double-digits under 4th year head coach Paul Chryst. and they are 20-10-1 overall against the spread since late in 2015. Meanwhile, Bob Davie's Lobos are just 5-7 their last dozen road games versus the math.
With a sneaky-good BYU team paying a visit to Madison next weekend, expect the Badgers to find their form this weekend after not covering the big impost last weekend.
Bucky Badger rolls the Wolves.
3* WISCONSIN

This week you get Duke as my free winner.
On the heels of last week's win over the Black Knights, Duke has won 23 of its last 30 non-conference games. This week the Devils travel to play a surprising Northwestern team, and I think the road pup is the right play.
With eight starters back on defense, I expect Duke to cause major problems for Northwestern's offense. Duke linebackers Joe Giles-Harris and Ben Humphreys came into the season with 232 and 207 career tackles, respectively, forming the only active duo in the ACC with 200+ total stops each. They'll be key in plugging the holes to stop the Wildcats rushing game.
On the other side of the ball, Duke quarterback Daniel Jones came into the 2018 campaign as one of two active quarterbacks nationally with 5,500+ passing yards and 1,000+ rushing yards, joining Syracuse’s Eric Dungy. In 25 career games, Jones has compiled 6,728 yards of total offense while accounting for 46 TDs. Last week he was solid in completing 13 of 17 attempts for 197 yards and a touchdown, while running for another.
Look for the Devils to challenge for the outright win.
3* DUKE

Saturday comp play on Northwestern at home over Duke.
The Wildcats showed me something by heading into Purdue on the 30th of August, forcing 3 first-half turnovers (all 3 leading to Northwestern touchdowns) and holding on for the 31-27 outright win as the small road underdog. That straight up win pushed the Wildcats winning streak to 9 in a row, with 8 covers in those 9 wins.
Today they play host to a Duke team that opened their new season with a 34-14 win and cover at home over Army. The Blue Devils caught the Wildcats this very same week last year in Durham, and whipped-up on them 41-17. That win avenged Duke's loss to Evanston the season before, as the home team took that one 24-13 back in 2016.
I like the "home cooking" revenge spot that Northwestern finds themselves in today, as they have covered 7 of their last 9 (2016 win over Duke included) as the home favorite the past 2+ seasons, and they only have a date with Akron at home up next.
Northwestern QB Clayton Thorson looked a little rusty in the win over Purdue, yet the 'Cats still scored 31 points. Thorson will only get better after rehabbing his injured knee. Oh, he also has RB Jeremy Larkin who scored twice and rand for 143 yards in the Purdue win to hand the ball off to.
Duke's defense is stout, so I am not calling for a runaway win by Northwestern, but in the end the Wildcats will have enough to get by for the win and the cover as the small home favorite.
4* NORTHWESTERN

Your Saturday freebie is the Navy at home against Memphis.
Let's roll with the Middies plus the points this Saturday at home in their AAC opener against the Tigers.
Memphis handled their business - as expected - in week one at home over Mercer, 66-14. Heck, I didn't even know Mercer fielded a football team!?!?!
Navy went on the road - all the way to Honolulu - only to lose to Hawaii, 59-41. The Midshipmen are in danger of opening the season 0-2 for the first time under Ken Niumatalolo since 2012, so expect an inspired effort from the Annapolis gang today.
Rare to get the Middies in the home underdog role, so I say let's put those points to work for us in this AAC contest. Navy is 5-2 against the spread as the home dog since 2009.
This is a revenge game for the Naval Academy, as they committed a season-high 5 turnovers in last season's 30-27 loss at the Liberty Bowl, but they did cover by a hook as the +3 1/2 point underdog. In fact, Navy has covered each of the last 3 series meetings against the Tigers, and I like them to cover here.
Middies to avoid the dreaded 0-2 hole to start the new season. Well, maybe they don't avoid the 0-2 start, but with the points they get the job done.
Dog play on Navy for Saturday.
2* NAVY

UCLA vs. Oklahoma
1 Unit FREE PLAY on UCLA +30
This was a 20-point spread just last week. After UCLA was upset by Cincinnati, and Oklahoma dominated Florida Atlantic, the line has been adjusted basically 10 points. It’s now time to take advantage of this extra line value and back UCLA as a 30-point underdog here to Oklahoma. The Bruins have the talent to matchup up with Oklahoma. And now that they have a game under their belts in Chip Kelly’s systems, they should make big improvements from Week 1 to Week 2. The Bruins also get some suspended players back that they didn’t have last week. Give me UCLA.

Arkansas State vs. Alabama
Arkansas State+36½
*3 Star Free Pick* The Alabama Crimson Tide are 6-17 ATS in their last 23 under Nick Saban when laying 29.5 points or more. Of course Alabama is capable of absolutely throttling Arkansas State here, but in the past this isn't the type of spot where Nick Saban and crew run up the score. Saban's teams typically keep their non-conference games against smaller schools uglier by playing with a very vanilla offense and letting the clock run.
Alabama beat down Louisville last week, and it's hard to get up for a game against Arkansas State when you just beat Louisville and then have Ole Miss and Texas A&M in the next couple weeks. This is the game it would be easy for Alabama to look past.
Arkansas State has a veteran quarterback and a lot of weapons on offense. Even if they are losing badly, this one has backdoor potential.
Take Arkansas State.

Western Michigan vs. Michigan
Michigan -27.5
This play just missed out on our premium card. The Michigan Wolverines and the Western Michigan Broncos face off on Saturday and in this game the value lies with the Wolverines.
The Broncos played the Syracuse Orange in the first game and the final score looks close but that doesn't tell the whole story.
The Orange pulled their quarterback at halftime and didn't play great in the second half and it made the game closer than it probably should have been.
There is no question the Wolverines are the better team and this will reach blowout city.
Back the Wolverines

California vs. BYU
1* Free Pick on BYU -155
BYU pulled off one of the more bigger upsets in Week 1, as they went on the road and gave it to Arizona in a 28-23 win as a 11.5-point dog. It wasn't anywhere as close as that final score would indicate. BYU had a 28-10 lead going into the 4th quarter. They did whatever they wanted offensively and completely shut down Arizona's star quarterback Khalil Tate.
Cal defeated North Carolina 24-17 in their opener, but given all the suspensions and injuries UNC had, that's a game they should have won. The facto that they only won by 7, despite being +4 in the turnover department is a big concern.
What a lot of people will overlook in that win is just how much the Golden Bears struggled offensively. Cal had just 279 total yards. They averaged just 3.3 yards/carry on the ground and 3.7 yards/pass attempt.
I know Cal has a good defense, but it's extremely tough to win on the road with that kind of offensive production. This BYU team is one of the most improved teams in the country and are playing with a chip on their shoulder after last year's disastrous 4-9 campaign. I look for the Cougars to dominant this game just like they did against the Wildcats. Take BYU!

Jack’s Free Pick Saturday: Kansas State +7
I think there’s some value on Kansas State as 7-point home underdogs here against Mississippi State Saturday afternoon. I think this line is an overreaction from Week 1 results, which was Mississippi State look really good and Kansas State look terrible. This line would have been closer to a pick ‘em had Week 1 results not happened.
Kansas State struggled with South Dakota, winning just 27-24. No matter how you spin it, that was a poor showing. But it’s worth noting that South Dakota is coming off an appearance in the FCS Playoffs in which they won a game and then were knocked out by Sam Houston State in the second round.
The only reason that game was even close was because Kansas State uncharacteristically lost the turnover battle 4-0 to South Dakota. If anything, that poor effort will have the Wildcats refocused. And Kansas State is 21-4 ATS in its last 25 home games after a game with a turnover margin of -2 or worse.
Conversely, Mississippi State looked great in beating Stephen F. Austin 63-6. But Stephen F. Austin is clearly one of the worst FCS teams as the Bulldogs were favored by 47.5 points in that contest. And they played with their backup QB, meaning this will be the first start for Nick Fitzgerald in a hostile road environment.
Kansas State has a talented offense that returned eight starters from a unit that averaged 32.3 points per game last year. And the Wildcats always have a stingy defense, giving up 25 points per game or fewer in five of the past six seasons. That is very impressive in the offense-happy Big 12.
It’s never easy winning in Manhattan. The Wildcats are 46-15 at home over the last nine seasons. Getting Bill Snyder as a home dog is usually a good proposition. Snyder is 27-9 ATS as an underdog since 2011, with 13 of those games resulting in outright upsets. The Wildcats are 20-2 SU in their last 22 non-conference home games. K-State hosted No. 5 Auburn in 2014, and narrowly lost 14-20. I think this one goes down to the wire as well. Bet Kansas State Saturday.

Rice vs. Hawaii
Hawaii -17
Hawaii has been quite the surprise this season and this is a spot to buy into them on Saturday. Hawaii has won their first two games as huge underdogs and now they take on a Rice team that is far less of an opponent of the ones they have faced.
The Rainbow Warriors have scored 112 points through the first two games and have won by a combined 37 points. This offense has been extremely explosive and this Rice team doesn't have much firepower to keep up.
Rice nearly loss to an FCS opponent in Week 1 and got smacked around by Houston last week.
Some trends to note. Owls are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games. Owls are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
Lay the points here as Hawaii will just be too much for the Owls.
Back Hawaii ATS.
Good Luck, Razor Ray.

Blue Devils (+) over Wildcats-
Last season these two played in Durham where the Blue Devils annihilated Northwestern 41-17 with a 538-191 yardage advantage as they held the ball for 42 minutes. The Wildcats were able to hang on at Purdue and opened the season with a 31-27 win on the road while Duke was getting the best of Army 34-14. I would suspect that most would look for the Wildcats to extract some sort of revenge but the dog is 6-1 ATS in their series and the Blue Devils just may be a little bit better. Take DUKE!

Memphis vs. Navy
1* Free Sharp Play on Memphis -6½ -110
My money is on Memphis to go on the road and cover the 6.5-point spread against the Midshipmen. I had my concerns with Navy coming into the year, as they only returned 9 starters from a team that managed to go just 7-6. After watching them lose outright at home to Hawaii, I think it's safe to say this team is going to struggle, at least early on. The biggest thing is how the defense had no answer for the Rainbow Warriors high-powered passing attack. That's a horrible sign for them against a Memphis team that likes to air it out. The Tigers have been an offensive juggernaut the first two years under Mike Norvell and based on what we saw in the opener, it looks like Brady White is going to do just fine in place of Riley Ferguson. Navy isn't a team that can play from behind, so this could get ugly if the Midshipmen don't score early and often. Bet Memphis -6.5!

Rice vs. Hawaii
Hawaii-17
This is a Free #NCAAF play on the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors. Hawaii has been a double digit underdog in both of it's first two games this season, and not only did they cover, they won both games outright. Not only did they win both games outright, they scored a combined 112 points and won by a combined margin of 37 points. They host Rice in Week 2, and the Owls are off to a shaky start. After just barely escaping an embarrassing loss to the Prairie View Panthers in Week 1, they suffered a 45-27 loss to Houston in Week 2. Cougars quarterback D'Eriq King threw for 320 yards and three TDs on 17-of-24 passing in the victory. I haven't seen anything to suggest that this Rice defense will be able to slow the potent "run and shoot" offense that has been executed to perfection by Hawaii so far. Cole McDonald is the nation's leading passer after throwing for 846 yards and nine TDs (no picks) against a pair of teams that are ranked significantly higher than Rice. Don't sleep on Hawaii this week! Take HAW. GL, Jesse Schule

Way too many points to give a very complete, and underrated, Gamecocks team. Take South Carolina. Thank you.

USC vs. Stanford
USC+6 -105
My free play is on USC at 8:30 ET. No. 17 USC and No. 10 Stanford meet Saturday in Palo Alto in a rematch of last season’s Pac-12 Championship Game, a contest the Trojans won 31-28 (USC also won the teams' regular season meeting 42-24 in LA). Both schools secured opening week wins over Mountain West foes, as USC beat UNLV 43-21 and Stanford defeated San Diego State 31-10. USC holds a 62-32-3 series lead against Stanford but seven of the last 12 meetings in the series have been decided by eight points or fewer.
USC's freshman quarterback JT Daniels threw for 282 yards and a touchdown, while Chase McGrath kicked five FGs to tie a school record against the Rebels. Daniels became the second true freshman QB to start an opener for USC. K.J. Costello finished 21 for 31 for a career-high 332 yards and four TDs against San Diego State as the Cardinal won their 11th straight home opene. Wide receiver Arcega-Whiteside was named Pac-12 Offensive player of the Week after catching six passes for 226 yards, while San Diego State focused on stopping Heisman Trophy candidate Bryce Love, who was held to 29 yards on 18 carries after rushing for 2,118 yards in 2017.
USC enters this contest having won 16 of its last 17 conference games, so taking any and all points is the way to go.
Good luck...Larry

Georgia Tech-3 -125
Georgia Tech/USF Noon: Significant graduation losses didn't seem to hurt USF last week against lightweight Elon. QB Blake Barnett (Alabama transfer) threw for lots of yards in a collective USF 515 yard offensive display; however, that was against a struggling Elon defense and putting up 34 points on them is not a major accomplishment. What is of concern is USF's defense allowing 192 yards rushing. Saturday, the retooled USF defense will face the Flex Bone machine run by QB TaQuan Marshall - who has run that offense as well as any QB that HC Paul Johnson has coached. The Yellow Jackets steamrolled Alcorn State 41-0 last week and Johnson was not happy. Look for GT to roll. Tech 6-2 in non conference and strong off double-digit SU wins at 8-1 ATS. USF 2-5 ATS non-conference mark. GT the call.

Arizona vs. Houston
UNDER 71½
Does Kevin Sumlin know what he has in quarterback Khalil Tate? You wouldn't know it by Sumlin's coaching debut with Arizona last week. The Wildcats were throwing deep and Tate ran just eight times for a measly 14 yards. Given those circumstances, it wasn't that surprising then that the Wildcats lost 28-23 to BYU as 11 1/2-point home favorites. Houston beat Rice, 45-27, in its opener but failed to cover as 25 1/2-point road chalk with the total sailing Over by 17 points. The marketplace has the Cougars pegged as an Over team. They must also be anticipating a huge bounce back game from Tate, who is a strong Heisman Trophy candidate because of his outstanding running ability not his deep passing. I'm recommending an Under play, though, because the market has overreacted pushing this total well above what the oddsmaker set it at. Arizona may have a better game plan, but the Wildcats have offensive line problems and are facing the premier defensive lineman in college, Ed Oliver. How good is Oliver? If the NFL draft took place right now, he would be the first overall draft pick. He finished his sophomore season last year with the most tackles for losses during the first two years in college history. Oliver was his dominant self against Rice with 13 tackles, including 3 1/2 for losses. These teams met opening week last season and there were only 35 points scored in Houston's 19-16 road victory. Tate wasn't installed as the starting quarterback at the time. I certainly expect more than 35 points to be scored this time around, but not enough to reach this overinflated total.

Cal showed a lot of improvement on defense but had almost nothing offensively against an injury depleted North Carolina squad. They travel to Salt Lake, a tough place to play with a revitalized BYU Cougar team that did whatever it wanted against Arizona. The offense rushed the ball for almost five yards per carry and allowed no sacks. The defense locked up Khalil Tate in a game that was not that close. BYU will be laying less than a FG here at home vs. a Pac 12 team that is not as good as they beat last week on the road. Take BYU.

61.5 OVER
This is a tough prediction. Vanderbilt should win this ballgame but it’s hard to judge Vanderbilt and Nevada after last weeks’ games. Vanderbilt took care of MTSU, while Nevada destroyed Portland State, an FCS program.
I can see this game going back and forth with both teams having a chance to win the ballgame. Kyle Shurmur will have a big impact in this game for the Commodores. I also believe they will have a certain running back stick out, helping the Commodores pull this one out. It’s hard to say so early in the season, but I would say this is a must-win for the Commodores, especially because of their game next week against the Irish.

The College football Comp Play is on Oklahoma at 1:00 eastern. The Sooners were easy winners last week and now they get a UCLA Team off an upset loss. That loss sets up a week 2 system that plays against road dogs of 10 or more that are off a home favored loss as a favorite of 14 or more. These teams are 14-32 to the spread long term. UCLA also fits our play against system that pertains to teams with now coaches in their first road game vs a team that had 7 or more wins last season. UCLA is just 1-9 ats in September games and 1-8 ats in non conference games. The Bruin have failed to cover 4 of 5 as a road dog of more than 21. Oklahoma has covered 10 of 13 at home and will likely blow the doors off UCLA Today.

Play: MICHIGAN -26.5 (-106)
You are not going to find a more misleading Week 1 box score than that of Western Michigan – Syracuse. In an early season betting marketplace where stats have a HUGE influence on the pointspread, the Broncos are getting far more credit than they deserve as they travel to the Big House to take on a Michigan team primed to take out some frustration on a lesser tier foe.
Here’s what ACTUALLY happened in the Western Michigan – Syracuse game. Syracuse scored on their first seven drives; complete domination. Then the Orange pulled their quarterback and many of their starters with a 34-7 halftime lead, a game that was essentially over. But the Orange came out of halftime unfocused – not atypical for a team in their first game – and Western was able to take advantage with three consecutive big play TD’s, including a 64 yard run and an 84 yard pass – making things interesting and making their box score numbers look much, much better than they actually were. I’ll most assuredly take the UNDER on big play TD’s from Western Michigan this week, against a Wolverine defense that just completely shut down Brandon Wimbush after the first two drives of the game.
The Broncos had five All-MAC players on defense last year. All five of those guys departed in the offseason; leaving significant holes to fill. Syracuse didn’t score on their first seven drives of the game – in Kalamazoo, mind you – by accident. The Wolverines have all kinds of kinks to work out on offense after Shea Patterson’s rough debut, and Western Michigan’s defense lacks the size, speed and talent to do anything about it. Expect a Wolverine victory by four TD’s or more.

Despite an impressive showing from Blake Barnett, South Florida will have their hands full defensively with the Georgia Tech running attack of TaQuon Marshall and KirVonte Benson. Georgia Tech plays at a slightly slower pace than South Florida running a play every 26 seconds against Alcorn State. If the Yellow Jackets can keep Blake Barnett off the field they should be able to come away with the road cover heading into conference play againt Pitt the following week. The Bulls lost their top three tacklers from a season ago and inexperienced tacklers on defense does not bode well for a team going up against the triple option.

Notre Dame is off a great showing against Michigan and have an SEC opponent in Vanderbilt on deck. The Irish have a very tough schedule thios season and this is likely going to be the weakest opponent they play. Therefore we can see a bit of a letdown here after knocking off the Wolverines.
