NCAA-B | DePaul vs Northwestern
Play on: DePaul +9½ -110 at sportsbook

1* Free Pick on DePaul Blue Demons +9.5

Northwestern is getting way too much respect here from the books on their home floor against DePaul. The Wildcats have covered 4 of 5, but also lost their last two, including a crushing 62-60 loss at home to Michigan last time out.

I'm noting saying they won't the game, but asking them to blowout the Blue Demons by double-digits is a little much. DePaul has already knocked off one Big Ten team this year, as they defeated Penn State. Their only loss on the season is a road game at Notre Dame.

Blue Demons have covered 7 of their last 10 games played on Saturday and are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 vs a team with a winning record. Take DePaul!

NCAA-B | Pittsburgh vs West Virginia
Play on: Pittsburgh +11 -110 at BMaker

10* FREE NCAAB PICK (Pittsburgh +11)

I'll take my chances here with the Panthers as a double-digit dog against the Mountaineers. This line suggest that Pitt has a slim chance of winning this game, but I think that's not true at all. The Panthers won just 8-games last year and went winless in the ACC (0-18). It's going to take more than a 7-2 start for this team to get some love. This is a different team under first year head coach Jeff Capel and we saw this team nearly go on the road and beat Iowa as a 11-point dog a couple weeks ago. They did just get upset at home against Niagara, but that was a big flat spot and it will have them 100% locked in for this one. West Virginia is way down this year, but the books haven't quite caught up. Give me the Panthers +11!

NCAA-F | Navy vs Army
Play on: UNDER 40½ -110

under 40.5

Army and Navy have played 12 unders in a row but this is the lowest set total for the game. We have seen the total set at 55.5 twice and last year's meeting had an over/under set at 44 and it ended 17-14. These two teams know each other well and play solid defense being prepared for their running attacks, which means the clock continues to move as opposed to passing attacks where the clock stops on incompletions.

Hopefully we see a 21-17 type of score that stays under.

NBA | Rockets vs Mavs
Play on: UNDER 219 -110

Saturday NBA Free play. My selection is on the 'under' between Houston and Dallas at 6:05 pm et on Saturday.

The first meeting between these two teams was a relatively high-scoring affair with the Mavs going into Houston and coming away with a 128-108 victory. It's worth noting that Dallas shot the lights out in that game, hitting 54% of their shots including 50% from beyond the arc. I expect things to settle down this time around, however, noting that the 'under' had cashed in the previous four matchups in this series, with none of those games coming even close to the total we're dealing with today. The Rockets are coming off back-to-back 91-point performances in losses in Minnesota and Utah. They shoot worse than 45% on the road while knocking down just 33% of their three-point attempts. The Mavericks have scored over 100 points in seven straight games but will likely be without Dennis Smith Jr. on Saturday. He's been a key contributor, averaging 13.5 points and 4.2 assists per game this season. Houston needs to tighten things up here as it tries to salvage on game on its three-game road trip. Take the under (8*).

NHL | Capitals vs Blue Jackets
Play on: Capitals +119 at betonline

Washington +106

The Capitals come in off a solid win over the Coyotes on Thursday and have revenge on their minds here against Columbus.

The Blue Jackets already went into Washington earlier this season and knocked them off, but the Capitals are in the midst of their stride right now.

They are playing extremely well on the offensive end, as the weapons they have are just too many for opposing defenses. Look for the Capitals to turn this one into a frantically paced kind of game, which given the struggles of the Blue Jackets defense lately, is not something Columbus needs.

Some trends to note. Capitals are 4-0 in their last 4 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game, and are 6-1 in their last 7 games following a win. Blue Jackets are 2-10 in their last 12 Saturday games.

Grab the plus money. Back Washington.

Good Luck, Razor Ray.

NHL | Avalanche vs Lightning
Play on: Lightning -147 at betonline

Yesterday, Ben Burns gave you an EASY complimentary winner with Brooklyn. (The underdog Nets won outright vs. the Raptors.) Today, Burns offers his opinion from the Colorado/Tampa hockey game:

Admittedly, the Avs have been playing well. Their 39 points is tied for the most in the Western Conference. However, they're up against the top team in the entire league today and I'm not sure that they're ready. Tampa checks in with 45 points and on a 5-game winning streak. While the Lightning tend to get fired up for other top teams, the same cannot necessarily be said for Colorado. Over the past couple of seasons, the Avs are 40-61 (-7.8) against teams with a winning record. During the same span, the Bolts were 63-45 (+8.8). The Avs would surely like to avenge an earlier 1-0 loss at Colorado. They're only 22-34 the past 56 times that they attempted to avenge a home loss though. With the Lightning at 38-15 (+6.7) the past couple of seasons, when playing a home game with an O/U line of six or greater, this line could easily be higher. Consider Tampa.

Let's look for it to hit what they call the "Baker's Dozen" today at Lincoln Financial Field.

13 games played, 13 Unders in a row is my call, as there are no real surprises when these teams face one another.

Both sides will try and control the football by using their option offense. There will be run after run, after run today, with passing to be at a premium.

The Army defense enters this annual clash with the #11 rated scoring defense in the nation, and they did hold Oklahoma to just 21 points in regulation before falling 28-21 in overtime earlier this year. I have a feeling the Black Knights will keep this Navy attack under lock-and-key, and the points today will once again be at a premium as they usually are when these teams face one another.

Army-Navy Under on Saturday.

4* ARMY-NAVY UNDER

My free play winner is on the Illinois Fighting Illni over the visiting UNLV Runnin' Rebels.

Look at the teams these two have played leading up to this game, as UNLV has faced one quality opponent in Cincinnati. The rest are noteworthy, but nothing special.

Illinois, however, has met Georgetown, Gonzaga, Iowa State, Xavier, Notre Dame, Nebraska and Ohio State. So even though the Illni have just two wins, make note the Illni have been battled tested.

The Runnin' Rebels, who have failed to cover 27 of their last 32 road games, will be playing their first road game after opening the season with seven at home, including two straight losses to Valpo and Cincinnati in their last two.

And despite a 2-7 mark, Illinois is being outscored by its opponents by less than a point: .9.

Look for Illinois to spank UNLV back to Las Vegas in this one.

3* ILLINOIS

My free play for Saturday is on North Texas laying the chalk agaisnt Texas-Arlington in the DFW Showdown.

I loved this game from the moment the line came out yesterday, as it's one of the best rivalries in the Lone Star State.

North Texas, which has received votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll, is off to its best start (9-1) since the 1976-77 season. Today it will extend its active home winning streak to 10 in a row by crushing Texas-Arlington.

The Mean Green roll into this one after a huge road win at Indiana State on Wednesday, when they beat the Sycamores 80-69. Guard Ryan Woolridge recorded North Texas' first triple-double since 1993 as he finished with 12 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. The Mean Green halted Indiana State's five-game winning streak.

North Texas jumped up 24 spots in the most recent Net Ranking up to No. 42 and sits 49 spots higher than the next best C-USA team in Old Dominion.

The Mavericks are just 3-6, and that's because they have a damn near brand new lineup after returning just three percent of its offense from a season ago, not to mention being under the guidance of new coach Chris Ogden.

That won't cut it against a UNT team that has 75 percent of its offense from last season's College Basketball Invitational championship team.

Lay the chalk with this game.

4* NORTH TEXAS

Comp play for Saturday comes in college basketball, as I lay the big number with the Minnesota Golden Gophers minus the points in their out-of-conference meeting against Arkansas State.

Minnesota came back for a huge conference opening home win over Nebraska earlier this week, as the Gophers played with a heavy heart for their senior guard Dupree McBrayar whose mother passed away earlier this week. The Golden Gophers were down 44-39 at the half, and did win going away, 85-78 as the small home dog.

Today they are the big home favorite, but with the pressure of playing a pair of Big Ten games their previous 2, and with a very challenging pre-conference schedule that has featured the likes of Boston College, Oklahoma State, Washington and Utah, I am sure this "step-down" against the Red Wolves out of the Sun Belt will be just what Minny needs to get themselves a comfortable 25 point win today at home.

Arkansas State is just 3-5 for the year, and they are only 2-6 against the spread their last 8 lined games. Last year the Red Wolves were just 11-21 in Mike Balado's first season, the defense or lack there of, playing a big part in that poor record. So far this season, the defense looks to be an issue once again, as Arkansas State is allowing 83+ points per game.

Minnesota has some players - see: Amir Coffey, Jordan Murphy and Gabe Kalscheur - who can score the basketball.

After some tense conference affairs, look for this one to get out of hand early, as Minnesota puts the rout down on Arkansas State.

4* MINNESOTA
