NCAA-F | Northwestern vs Stanford
Play on: Stanford -6 -110 at BMaker

Ricky’s 1* Free Play on No. 25 Stanford (vs. Northwestern.)

Northwestern was 9-5 overall last year, including 8-1 in conference play. It would go on to lose to Ohio State 45-24 in the Big Ten Title game. The Wildcats then bounced back with a 31-20 win over Utah in the Holiday Bowl. Northwestern says goodbye to longtime QB Clayton Thorson, with a transition expected with Hunter Johnson running the show now. The Wildcats’ strength will be on the defensive side as they return nine starters (overall last year Northwestern averaged 24.2 PPG, while allowing 23.2.) Stanford finished 9-4 in 2018, including 6-3 in Pac-12 play. The Cardinal would go on to lose to Pittsburgh 14-13 in the Sun Bowl. Stanford benefits greatly from having KJ Costello back under center this season, as last year he had 3,540 passing yards, 29 TD’s and 11 picks (overall the Cardinal allowed 28.4 PPG, while conceding 22.9.)

Key Trends:

- Northwestern is just 1-3-1 ATS in its last five non-conference games.

- Stanford is interestingly 4-1 ATS in its last five games played in the month of August.

The verdict: Costello at home is the difference maker for me here. Northwestern’ fans have a lot to be excited for this season, but there’s no question that Johnson and company draw a tough first matchup; consider laying the points this one!

NCAA-F | Boise State vs Florida State
Play on: Florida State -189 at Pinnacle
This is a Free play on FSU. The Boise State Broncos finished with 10 wins last season, losing their conference title game to Fresno State. They will have to replace starting quarterback Brett Rypien and starting running back Alexander Mattison. They still have plenty of reason for optimism in 2019, with a highly touted freshman stepping in at quarterback behind an experienced offensive line. That being said, he will be thrown right into the fire in Week 1. The Seminoles appear primed to bounce back from a poor showing in 2018. Willie Taggart will get 16 of his top 20 tacklers back on defense, and quarterback James Blackman is in his third year with the team. While Boise State is sure to be a tough out, they should come up short here in a tough game against the Seminoles in Florida. Take FSU. GL,

NCAA-F | Miami-OH vs Iowa
Play on: UNDER 49 -110

Saturday CFB Free play. My selection is on the 'under' between Miami-Ohio and Iowa at 7:30 pm et on Saturday.

Miami-Ohio had some offensive outbursts last season but at the end of the day didn't live up to expectations based on the talent and experience it had on that side of the football. Now the Redhawks lose plenty of pieces from that group and with a lot of question marks they face a nightmarish opening week matchup on the road against Iowa.

Defensively, the potential is there for the Redhawks to get ripped by the Iowa offense but it's not as if the Hawkeyes have a great track record as far as lighting up the scoreboard goes, particularly early in the campaign. Last year, they topped out at 38 points in their first three non-conference home games (that effort came against FCS squad Northern Iowa), including a 33-7 victory over MAC foe Northern Illinois in opening week.

The last time these two teams met back in 2016 Iowa rolled to a 45-21 victory here at home. Miami did manage three offensive touchdowns in that game, but I don't anticipate it getting such a clean game from their quarterback here (on that day they got 266 passing yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions).

This is the type of game where Iowa can jump ahead early and then shift into cruise control and let its defense take care of the rest. I'm not sure we'll see the Hawkeyes run up the score here unless Miami's offense is a complete train-wreck and turns the football over at will. Even still, the Redhawks may not be able to contribute enough offensively to help the final score 'over' the total. Take the under (10*).

NCAA-F | Boise State vs Florida State
Play on: Florida State -6½ -110 at Mirage

FSU -6.5

Year #2 for FSU’s Willie Taggart, and it can’t go much worse than year #1 did right? Last year the Seminoles only strung together 5 wins and their bowl run ended so the new year couldn’t come fast enough in Tallahassee. Saturday that new year kicks off and Florida State is hoping to get off on the right in a what was supposed to be a neutral site game against the Boise State Broncos in Jacksonville, but now due to Hurricane Dorian is now being played at NOON ET at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee.

James Blackman has grabbed the QB job back and last year he had 510 yards passing and five touchdowns as Francois’ backup, but he did put up decent numbers in 2017 so there’s an above average track record to turn to here.

It’s a long way from Boise Idaho to Florida and even though this is the first game of the year for the Broncos this is still a game in Florida. This will be the first meeting between the schools so there’s not much they know about each other – other than what they see on film.

For the Broncos I don't have much faith in Hank Bachmeier taking over for Rypien in this one, it’s just a tough game 1 matchup, its his first big game, he’s a true freshman, and I'll put my $ on the Seminoles pass rush putting him under pressure all day. It’s a new DEFENSE for the Seminoles in 2019 and that combined with all the weapons at Blackman’s disposal is the reason I’m on the Seminoles -6.5 on Saturday.

Some trends to consider. The Broncos are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games in August. The Seminoles are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 non-conference games, and 6-0 SU in their last 6 games played in August.

Back FSU ATS.

Good Luck, Razor Ray.

NCAA-F | Ole Miss vs Memphis
Play on: Ole Miss +5 -110 at sportsbook

Sometimes it isn't necessarily talent, but lack of motivation that causes a team to regress. Mississippi had competed in bowl games four straight years from 2012-2015. But the Rebels hadn't been to a bowl game during the last three seasons. Now, Mississippi's bowl suspension has been lifted. Ole Miss is bowl eligible again. I see the Rebels bouncing back this year. Too much of this line is based on Mississippi's poor performance last season. We are talking about an SEC team getting more than a field goal against an American Athletic Conference opponent. Memphis is 1-9-1 ATS in its last 11 games versus SEC foes, including getting blasted by Missouri, 65-33, last season. Mississippi coach Matt Luke has surrounded himself with former respected head coaches Rich Rodriguez and Mike MacIntyre to be his coordinators. Memphis' home field advantage is somewhat negated by playing at the Liberty Bowl. It's just a little more than a one hour drive from Mississippi's campus to Memphis. The Rebels have a stud running back, Scottie Phillips. He'll take the pressure off redhsirt freshman QB Matt Corral. Rodriguez prefers a more-run based offense. Memphis gave up 32 points a game last season. The Tigers are extremely vulnerable in the secondary with a track record of giving up huge passing plays so Corral will be able to take advantage especially off play-action. Corral completed 73 percent of his throws and averaged 10.9 yards per pass attempt in four appearances as a true freshman last year. Memphis lost some firepower with Darrell Henderson and Tony Pollard going into the NFL. The Tigers still have RB Patrick Taylor Jr. and Brady White is one of the better QB's in the AAC. You have to wonder, though, if Memphis' offensive line can hold off an SEC defense? Ole Miss's defense was porous last season. It should be much improved with nine starters back, including nose tackle Benito Jones. He's a key in MacIntyre switching the Rebles' defense from a 4-3 to 3-4. (Editor's note: Stephen Nover is one of the top football handicappers in the nation. He proved it again last season going 65-36 on his last 101 college football plays. Stephen went into Friday 13-3 on his last 16 CFB plays after cashing a totals winner with the Under in the UCLA-Cincinnati Thursday game. Don't miss any of his winning plays, all of which come with his trademark deep analysis.)

I have to side with the SEC team as an underdog to the AAC team in Memphis here. Head coach Matt Luke has all his players in place now as he enters his third year with the Rebels. And he brought in two former head coaches in Rich Rodriquez to coach the offense and Mike MacIntyre to coach the defense. These were two of the best coordinator hires of the offseason. The defense will be greatly improved with 10 returning starters on that side of the ball. The offense is inexperienced, but loaded with talent thanks to the job Luke has done in recruiting. This is an offense that put up 511 yards per game last year and will be one of the top offenses in the country again. Ole Miss will have the talent edge at almost every position on the field in this game. Give me Ole Miss.

CFB 100 DIME OFFSHORE GOY

67 UNDER

Nebraska will give South Alabama a beating of its life time. I like Nebraska to put up 45 points on the board. According to algorithm 1, I have South Alabama putting up no more than 17 points. The over has cashed in 7 of 10 games, but they where real schools that had offense. Last year Nebraska beat Bethune-Cookman 45-9, which is a nobody school just like South Alabama.

Nebraska wins 45-17

NCAA-F | Boise State vs Florida State
Play on: Boise State +7 -115 at 1BetVegas

Because of the impending Hurricane expected to hit Florida, this game was changed from Jacksonville to Tallahassee . The line has changed because of this which gives us value according to my projections taking the underdog Boise Broncos.

Boise State returns their entire offensive line, and despite of having a new QB this year, there is alot of excitement around one of biggest recruits to hit this schools football program in a while (junior Robert Mahone ) who has looked good in training and getting tons of accolades from coaches and players for his character and composure. He has the ability to be a real game breaker and to handle any pressure Florida States top tier D, can throw at him.

I like HC Willy Taggart and Florida State and they should uptrend this season, because of the talent and experience they have throughout the roster. However, having this game venue change and impending devastating storm on the horizon, could effect FSU games preparation and mental focus and discipline, which has been an issue for Taggart teams in the past, as is evident by having finished No. 129 and No. 126 in penalties per game in 2017 (Oregon) and 2018 (FSU).

Broncos are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games on grass.Broncos are 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 road games.Boise is also 7-3 ATS L/10 openers and have covered 4 of their L/5 as underdogs of less than 10 points.

Boise State to cover

NCAA-F | Toledo vs Kentucky
Play on: Toledo +12 -110 at Mirage

Jack’s Free Pick Saturday: Toledo +12

The upset-minded Toledo Rockets hit the road for their season opener to take on the Kentucky Wildcats. They have had great preparation leading up to this game all offseason knowing that they’d be facing an SEC team to start their season. The Rockets are relishing this opportunity.

Toledo certainly has the makings of one of the best teams in the MAC this year. They return 11 starters from a team that went 7-6 last year. Their offense will be explosive after putting up 40.4 points per game a season ago. They bring back QB Mitchell Guadagni and their top two rushers from last season. They also have their most experienced offensive line in years and should control the line of scrimmage in most games.

The Kentucky Wildcats are coming off one of their best seasons in program history with a 10-3 record last year. That team was loaded with 15 returning starters, but this looks to be a rebuilding year with only eight starters back. The Wildcats rank 105th in the country in terms of returning experience.

The losses are huge on defense from a unit that only gave up 16.8 points per game last year. They lose Josh Allen, who was a Top 5 pick last year after registering a whopping 17 sacks. They lost four of their top five tacklers on defense and only bring back four starters on that side of the ball. Kentucky also loses all-everything RB Benny Snell, who rushed for 1,449 yards and 16 TD. Those two are irreplaceable for a team like Kentucky.

Kentucky is 1-9 ATS as a home favorite over the last three seasons. The Wildcats are 0-6 ATS in non-conference home games over the last three years. The Rockets are 19-7 ATS in their last 26 road games. The Wildcats are 8-23 ATS in their last 31 home games. Bet Toledo Saturday.

The College Football Comp Play is on Akron plus the 19 points at noon eastern. In this game we have a nice system that has hit 30 of 38 times long term by playing against game 1 favorites of 10 or more that won 5 or less last season vs a team that won 4 or more. Which play against Illinois here today. Illinois has failed to cover 4 straight as a favorite and barely beat MAC Conference Kent last season in their opener as an 18 point favorite as they have now failed to cover 10 of 13 vs MAC teams and the last 5 in August games. Akron has covered the last 2 as a road dog of 17 to 21 so we will play on them to keep it closer than expected. . For the Free play take Akron plus the 19. Rob V- Golden Contender Sports

10* FREE MLB PICK (Cubs -150)

I'll take my chances here with Chicago securing their 5th straight win by taking Saturday's game at home against the Brewers. Cubs won the opener against Milwaukee 7-1 on Friday and have now scored a healthy 31 runs over their last 5 games. That offense will be up against Zach Davies and his 6.92 ERA and 1.462 WHIP over his last 3 starts. Chicago will counter with veteran Cole Hamels, who has a 2.63 ERA and 1.127 WHIP in 11 home starts this season. Hamels has faced Milwaukee 3 times this season and the Cubs are 3-0 in those starts. He's allowed just 3 runs on 13 hits in 18 innings of work. Give me Chicago -150!

Two teams still in the N.L. Wild Card race, the Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers play their second of a three-game series. Zach Davies (8-7 3.90 ERA) will start for the Brewers while Cole Hamels (7-4 3.73 ERA) starts for the Cubs. Hamels has an ERA of 9.55 over his last four starts. The Brewers are slipping away in the Wild Card race and know that they need to put together a big game tonight. With Hamels struggling, look for the Brewers' bats to be aggressive this afternoon as they pick up a huge win against the Cubs.

Play on: Duke +35 -110 at Bovada

1* Free Play on Duke +35 -110

Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta will be the neutral site of an afternoon clash between the #2 Alabama Crimson Tide and the unranked Duke Blue Devils.

With a win over Temple in the Independence Bowl, Duke improved to 8-5 on this season after closing out the 2018 regular season with a pair of losses at the hands of #2 Clemson and Wake Forest. Last year, Duke scored 29 points per game while allowing 27 points per game.

Alabama was a 44-16 defeat against Clemson away from going a perfect 15-0 and claiming another National Championship under Nick Saban. Instead, the Crimson Tide finished 14-1 while scoring an average of 45 and giving up 18 per game.

Although Duke lost Daniel Jones to the NFL, senior quarterback Quentin Harris is getting 35 points and has shown he can play at this level. In limited playtime last year, Harris won both games he started and threw for 437 yards with a 7:1 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

Alabama’s biggest challenge this year will be replacing the defensive stars it lost to the NFL, including last year’s leader in sacks, Isaiah Buggs. Dylan Moses was expected to lead the defense after an 86-tackle season in 2018, but a torn ACL will sideline Moses for the season.

Alabama -32

This plsy just missed out on our premium card. The Alabama Crimson Tide and the Duke Blue Devils face off on Saturday and in this game the value lies with the Crimson Tide.

The Blue Devils don't have Daniel Jones and switching quarterbacks against an Alabama defense is going to be an issue.

For the Crimson Tide they have made it clear they are mad about what happened last season and they are going to take it out on the Blue Devils.

The Crimson Tide are 7-3 ATS in their last ten games against the ACC.

Back the Crimson Tide.

MIKE LUNDIN'S ALABAMA VS. DUKE FREE PICK

The second-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide are asked to cover a boatload of points here against the Duke Blue Devils, but I think they'll be well up for the task.

The motivation will certainly be there to get back to their winning ways after an NCAA Championship Title Game loss to Clemson, and Nick Saban has a history of coming out all guns blazing going 11-1 ATS in Week 1 dating back to 2007.

Bama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa goes into his junior season as one of the favorites for the Heisman Trophy after finishing runner-up last year, while Duke has lost its star QB as Daniel Jones was drafted by the New York Giants.

Defensively, Duke surrendered at least 27 points in eight games last year and I don't see the Blue Devils being able to slow down this dynamic Alabama offense.

NCAA-F | Northwestern vs Stanford
Play on: Northwestern +6½ -105 at 5Dimes

This is a play on the NORTHWESTERN WILDCATS for our CFB Saturday Free Play. Here we have two teams that need to replace major contributors from the past few seasons. Northwestern brings back 12 starters from last season but it does have to replace all-time leading passer Clayton Thorson who finished his career with 10,731 passing yards. Quarterback Hunter Johnson has run with the ones during fall camp. TJ Green has run with the ones during fall camp. So there is still no clear cut number one and that is not a bad thing as Stanford has had to plan for both. This is a role the Wildcats cherish as Northwestern is 27-9 ATS as a road underdog since 2008 including 10 straight covers by an average of over two touchdowns. Stanford is even less experienced, with just nine starters back and must replace Heisman contender running back Bryce Love, their top three receivers and top two tacklers. The Cardinal are ranked No. 118 on the experience chart and the offensive line is a big concern as they have just 39 combined starts which is No. 113 in the nation. Without question, the Stanford identity comes down to the offensive line and last year was a disaster while this year there are a lot of questions. They have a top quarterback with K.J. Costello but if he is not getting time to throw, it matters none especially with a relatively new group of receivers. Play (185) Northwestern Wildcats

Play on: Georgia Southern +28 -110 at Bovada

1* Free NCAAF Pick on Georgia Southern +28 -110

LSU was better than anyone expected last year. Coming off a 10-3 season with 16 returning starters and starting QB Joe Burrow back under center, expectations are sky high heading into 2019.

This is not a game I feel that the Tigers are all that threatened by and that lack of focus/intensity should allow Georgia Southern to stick around and keep this close. Even more so when you consider how big of a game LSU has on deck with a trip to Austin to face No. 10 Texas.

Note that the Tigers were asked to lay 20 or more 3 times in 2018 and failed to cover all 3. They won by a final of 31-0 as a 40-point favorite over SE Louisiana. They won by just 17 as a 20-point favorite over LA Tech and beat Rice 42-10 as a 42-point favorite.

I get Sun Belt is the worst FBS conference and that's where Georgia Southern is from, but were talking about an Eagles team that has 14 returning starters from a team that went 10-3. Georgia Southern runs the triple-option and that's not fun to prepare for or play against. This team went on the road and only lost by 31 at Clemson last year and beat App State 34-14 as a 10-point dog. Eagles are also 5-0-1 ATS last 6 vs the SEC and LSU only 2-6-1 last 8 non-conference. Take Georgia Southern!

Play on: Auburn -3 -120 at Mirage
My free play is on Auburn at 7:30 ET. Every school ranked in the AP's preseason poll will play in Week 1 (note: No. 8 Florida opened its season last Saturday vs Miami.) However, there is just ONE Week 1 contest which features a game between two ranked opponents and that's No. 11 Oregon taking on No. 16 Auburn in Arlington, Texas. These schools have met just ONCE before but it was a memorable one. Led by Heisman winner Cam Newton, the Tigers defeated the Ducks 22-19 on Jan. 10, 2011 in the 2010 BCS national championship game, winning on a 19-yard FG as time expired. The Oregon Ducks are coming off a 9-4 season in 2018 season, which included a 7-6 Redbox Bowl win over Michigan State. QB Justin Herbert decided to NOT enter the 2019 draft (many thought he's be a top-5 pick) and is expected to have a HUGE year. His 2018 season was pretty good, as he threw for 3,151 yards with 29 TDs and just eight INTs. Leading receiver Dillon Mitchell (75 catches / 1184 yards / 10 TDs) is gone but Jaylon Redd (38 catches) is expected to fill his role for this season. Oregon also brought in Juwan Johnson, a graduate transfer from Penn State (32 receptions last season) plus Cristobal also recruited four very highly touted freshman receivers, led by Mycah Pittman. CJ Verdell (1,018 yards / 10 TDs) and Travis Dye 739 yards / 4 TDs) give the Oregon offense great balance. The defense returns seven starters, including LB Troy Dye who was far and away the Ducks' leading tackler (109). Oregon also landed landing #1 overall prospect DE Kayvon Thibodeaux. While the Ducks will feature a senior QB in Herbert, Auburn will start a freshman quarterback (Bo Nix) for the first time since 1946. However, he owns "good genes," as his father Patrick led Auburn to an 11-0 season in 1993. Nix is expected to be a dual-threat but Auburn also boasts one of the better RB tandems in the SEC, as JaTarvious Whitlow and Kam Martin combined for 1,245 yards last season. The Tigers' top-two pass catchers from last season, Darius Slayton (NYG) and Ryan Davis (Pats), are off to the NFL, so expect Seth Williams, who led the SEC in yards per reception at 20.5, to emerge as Nix's top option. The defense returns seven starters and note that Auburn's defense is one of four units (along with No. 1 Clemson, No. 2 Alabama and No. 12 Washington) to finish in the top-15 in scoring defense in each of the last three seasons! "The hype machine" is on 'high' in Eugene but let's remember that the Ducks were just 5-4 in a watered-down Pac-12 in 2018. No, this isn't a bowl game but it is a major neutral-site, intersectional showdown (Pac-12/SEC ), so the Pac-12's sad-sack 3-19 ATS mark the last three bowl seasons is noteworthy. Head coach Gus Malzahn is back calling the plays for Auburn and all reports say Nix has all the tools to make Tigers 'run on all cylinders.' This is Oregon's first neutral-site opening game since 2011, when the Ducks lost to another SEC school (LSU), 40-27. I'll side with the SEC over the Pac-12.

Good luck...Larry

As a multi-time college football handicapping champion, this is going to be my best season ever. We open up the campaign with an explosive weekend as I have my coveted, 13-3 (LY) SHOCKER, 50-16 TOUCHDOWN, 30-10 NO LIMIT, and my SEC EAST GAME OF THE MONTH. Get all my Week 1 winners and start your season off right.

SATURDAY'S FREE NCAAF WINNER: Fresno State.

Game 213.

7:30 pm pst.

USC comes off its first losing campaign (5-7) in nearly 20 years. Yes, Fresno State (12-2 LY) defeated Arizona State, 31-20 in the Las Vegas Bowl and are forecasted to be the Mountain West West's Division Champs, despite most of their offensive unit being new. However, facing a Southern California "D" that got plowed for 4.3 YPC last year, with stud RB, Ronnie Rivers (743 YR, 10 TD's LY) is going to be fatal. The Bulldogs also have experienced, Sr. QB, Jorge Reyna at the helm. Trojans QB, JT Daniels was unimpressive a season ago, tallying only 14 TD's with a whopping 10 INT's.
