INDEPENDENCE BOWL -- If this game were being played in a vacuum Miami would not only win, but would cover with ease. Bowl games present all sorts of different factors one must consider, however, and one is that it's hard to imagine Miami being fired up to play Louisiana Tech in Shreveport the day after Christmas. Furthermore, Miami has spent all season failing to live up to its potential while the Bulldogs have been quite good. They lost to Texas to open the season, and their two conference losses came in games they were without their starting QB and leading WR. Take the points, but don't be shocked if the Dogs win outright.

INDEPENDENCE BOWL
I'm taking the points with Louisiana Tech on Thursday. To say Miami is disappointed and unmotivated by a bowl appearance in Shreveport, Louisiana, is an understatement. A few players even expressed disappointment when their bowl draw was announced. Crowd support will be non-existent for the 'Canes, who don't travel well anyway. Miami suffered what once would have been considered unthinkable losses throughout the course of the season and now have multiple players sitting-out the bowl game as they prepare for the NFL draft. It's essentially a home game for La Tech as they look to make amends for late season suspensions that kept them from a shot at the C-USA championship. INDEPENDENCE BOWL -- Even without star CB Amik Robertson, who declared for the NFL Draft, Louisiana Tech has a defense strong enough to go toe-to-toe with Miami. What gives the Bulldogs an edge in this game is the consistency of QB J'Mar Smith, who is very efficient and will do a great job keeping the Hurricanes' defense guessing. The Bulldogs also should be able to slow down Miami's offense.

The 'Canes come into this game off a very disappointing season and I don't see them having a lot of motivation here. They've also lost eight of their last nine bowl games. This is basically a home game for the Bulldogs, who unlike Miami are happy to be here. Skip Holtz has his team playing well -- Louisiana Tech notched its first 10-win season in 35 years. The Bulldogs have won five straight bowl games, tied with Wisconsin for the longest streak in the nation. Take the points but don't be surprised by an outright upset.

QUICK LANE BOWL -- Relative to expectations, the Eagles had a bit of a disappointing season. Coming off last year's seven-win campaign, they were pegged to take a step forward and perhaps contend for the MAC West title. Instead, they finished dead last in the division. But this erratic club does have road wins over Illinois and Northern Illinois to its credit. The Panthers stumbled down the stretch, with two ugly losses to end the regular season. But if they come ready to play here, a blowout should be in store.Betting against 6-6 MAC teams in bowls should prove a profitable approach.

Analysis:
Miami finished the season terribly losing big scores to FIU and Duke and the fact is this season has not been what they wanted. They are Bowling but one has to wonder if there is much excitement playing In thiŽs Bowl in Shreveport. This team can score some but they are DEAD LAST in 3rd down efficiency partly because they are #119 in rushing offense. La Tech is very happy to be playing in their back yard and this will mark the 6th straight Bowl Appearance for them. They have won all 5 of the previous games and covered 4 of them. They have very good QB and RB Work and will challenge a strong Miami Defense through the air and on the ground. We know that the quality of opponents are not as strong for the Bulldogs as they are for the Canes but we see motivation very high for US and not for THEM. That is very key in any Bowl Match-up and frankly La Tech has most always been the DOG when playing in Bowls and they have done just fine. We LOVE these Points and so let's grab them and play..

RATING: TRIPLE DIME PLAY
There's a lot of ways this could play out, none of them with a higher scoring game. Let's start with Towns' availability. He's missed four straight games and in none of those games did Minnesota score more than 106 points, well below their season average. I don't think he'll play, but if he does I certainly wouldn't expect him to be 100% or not be limited with minutes. The Twolves have lost eleven straight, and this is the fourth game of a four game road trip, and when you add the Towns trade speculation I cannot expect a max effort here. With that said it'd be easy to like Sacramento here, but the opening number of -4 just seems a bit fishy. That will surely change with the announcement of whether Towns is playing or not, but it shouldn't effect this total. It may effect the number, but IMO not the outcome. Sacramento is 25th in the league in shots taken per game, and to beat Minnesota they're probably going to slow things even more. They are #2 in opponents FG's attempted per game. They are #1 in opponents fast break points. The bottom line here is that unless Minnesota is the one controlling the flow at both ends, AND KAT is 100% and playing tons of minutes, this ones stays under, too.
