Wednesday comp play on Memphis and Charlotte to hold just south of landing Over the total in their game on Hornets hardwood.

The Grizzlies just played Under the total in their upset win at San Antonio on Monday night as Memphis has now played Under the posted total in 5 of their last 7 games on the year. Each of the Grizzlies 3 games played in that 7 game span on the road have all landed Under the total, and I don't see a change tonight in this road affair.

The Hornets come in off a road Over played at Philadelphia earlier this week, but each of Charlotte's last pair at home have held Under the total, and 3 of the Hornets last 4 overall at home have stayed Under the total.

This is the first meeting of the season between the teams, and a look inside of the numbers when the teams meet in Charlotte show 8 of the last 10 series meetings having held Under the posted price.

Neither team has done a very good job defensively through the early portion of this new season, the Grizzlies allowing a whopping 119 points per game, while the Hornets allow over 113 points per game. The problem with that though is the fact that Memphis scores just 109 points per game, while Charlotte is only averaging close to 106 points per contest.

Defenses on court may be bad, but tonight is that rare night both do a better job against a pair of offenses that have had their struggles.

Grizzlies-Hornets hold Under on Wednesday.

Misfired badly with Tuesday's complimentary selection on Akron in college football, snapping my three-day winning streak with free plays. For Wednesday’s freebie, we’ll head to the college hardwood and lay the big price with San Diego State at home against Grand Canyon University.

Two games certainly don’t make a season, but it’s difficult to not be impressed with San Diego State’s start to the campaign. In their opener last Tuesday, the Aztecs completely throttled overmatched Texas Southern, jumping out to a 48-13 halftime lead and rolling to a 77-42 victory as a 15½-point chalk. Then on Saturday, SDSU traveled to Provo, Utah, and renewed its bitter rivalry with BYU. Once again, the Aztecs took a lead into halftime, only this time they squandered it and were down by seven points midway through the second half, only to rally late for a 76-71 upset as a four-point dog.

In both wins, SDSU completely dominated the glass, outrebounding both Texas Southern (54-36) and BYU (38-25) by double-digit margins. Now the Aztecs welcome a Grand Canyon squad that is minus-25 on the boards through two games, both ugly losses at home to Division II Davenport (82-73 in a non-lined game) and Illinois (83-71 as a 6½-point underdog). In the loss to Illinois, the Antelopes were out-boarded 46-23.

After tonight, San Diego State gets a full week off before returning to the court next Wednesday to face in-city rival University of San Diego, so I’m confident we not only will get a focused effort from the home team here, but the Aztecs’ best players figure to log a lot of minutes regardless of the score.
4* SAN DIEGO STATE

Doubt highly that the NIU Huskies can rally themselves back off the deck after losing 48-10 at Central Michigan their last time on field to drop their record to just 3-6 on the season for first year coach Thomas Hammock.

Last season Northern Illinois was your MAC Champion for Rod Carey, but Carey moved on and the Huskies are clearly in rebuild mode and not getting nearly enough points for me to wish to back them against a Toledo team that is still technically alive for first place in the West Division at 6-3 overall this season.

The Rockets have been tough on MAC foes when playing at the Glass Bowl, as they are now 5-0 straight up after slipping past Kent State, 35-33 as the -5 1/2 point home chalk. Toledo is a perfect 5-0 at home this season while going 4-1 against the spread, and they come into this final home game of the season with a 12-2 straight up mark their last 14 against MAC opponents.

This is a payback meeting for the Rockets who were rocked 38-15 last season at Northern Illinois in a game that sent the Huskies to the MAC Championship Game. That loss snapped a Toledo 2 game series win and cover streak.

The home team in Toledo games this season is 7-2 against the spread, while NIU has dropped 5 of their 6 road games this season and have had issues stopping the run with consistency this year. The Huskies did allow over 300 yards rushing in their crippling loss to Central Michigan last time out. That soft run defense sets up well for the Rockets who can bang the ball with both Shakif Seymour and Bryant Koback. Seymour happens to be coming off a 175 yard, 2 TD performance against Kent State in the Rockets last game.

Toledo by a touchdown tonight in the Glass Bowl season finale.

2* TOLEDO

Memphis at Charlotte 7:00 ET
Grizzlies (+) over Hornets- A pair of also rans will meet in Charlotte where the 4-6 Hornets who has lost three straight will host 3-7 Memphis who have lost five of their last seven. The Hornets have had the edge in this series winning the last five meetings going 5-0 ATS with the road team going 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings. Charlotte should have the advantage here but the 'number' tells me different. Take MEMPHIS!
