3 Units Atlanta Falcons -140
This pick is mostly against KC, which is not only a crappy team but went 0-4 SU and ATS LY in NFL-X in its first season under 2Y HC Todd Haley, with road losses by 4 at Minny and (gasp) 8 at the St Louis Lambs. Atlanta is just a so so 2-2 SU and ATS at home under 3Y HC Mike smith, but is also 6-2 ATS in all 8 NFL-X games played under him L2Y.
With the point spread at -2.5 (-120) or even -3 at some books, but the ML at a low -140, we prefer the ML, where a Falcons win by 1 or 2 will send us to the pay window rather than reaching into our wallet if we had laid the 2.5 or 3 points. So make it 3 units on Atlanta at -140 or 145 on the ML, reduce to two units at -150 or 155, but pass or consider laying 2.5 points ATS (if you can get it) if the ML is -160>.

Arizona Under (9) for 2.5 Units
This "total" is propped up on account of the sluggishness and inconsistencies of these starters; however, both have been dominant against the respective team they face tonight and the bullpens have showed improvement. Saunders, who fired a complete game 1 ER performance in his debut with Arizona vs the Nationals on August 3rd, should be back on his game after following up with a sluggish outing vs SD; after all, the Nationals are batting an anemic .198 over the last five games and just .203 vs lefties over the last 10 days. On the other hand, we'll look for John Lannan to get back in form. Since coming back from AA Harrisburg, he is starting to find his groove. And surely Arizona brings out the best in Lannan; after all, he sports a microscopic 0.47 ERA in 3 starts vs Arizona. Lannan is 9-24-1 O/U at home vs a team with a road winning % of less than .400, and he is 3-7 O/U at home vs a team under .500. "Under" the call.

10* San Diego Padres
San Diego opens a 3 game road series at San Francisco on Friday night knowing they own a 7-1 record in this series this season. Both teams start their ace southpaws, with the Padres sending Clayton Richards to the mound and the Giants starting John Sanchez. We find San Diego at 20-11 against Left Handers this season. We find San Diego at 3-1 against the Giants when Richards starts, as he held them to just 4 Earned Runs in his last 21 Innings Pitched against them. Expect another solid effort from Richards as the Giants are 9-20 against N.L. teams allowing 3.8 or less runs per game since last season.
Tom Freese
15* Florida Marlins
Florida starter Josh Johnson has allowed 3 or less runs in 21 of his 23 starts this year. The Marlins are 47-23 in the last 70 starts made by Johnson. Florida is 9-3 their last 12 games vs. a starter with a WHIP of over 1.30. The Fish are 5-2 in game one of a series. Cincinnati starter Edinson Volquez will be on a pitch count in this game. The Reds are 2-6 their last 8 home games and they are 2-5 their last 7 games vs. righty starters. Cincinnati is 2-5 their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning record. 15* PITCHING MISMATCH PLAY ON FLORIDA.
