Chargers at Titans
Pick: Chargers +3

First off let's compare this two teams current hot streaks. The Chargers have won 9 start and haven't lost a game in December in a very long time. Included on their current streak includes wins in over the Eagles, Cowboys, and Giants. While even though the Titans have won 7 of their last 8 games only one of these wins have come with a team with a .500 record or better, and that win came against a Arizona team that was playing without Kurt Warner that day. Plus add in the fact that Tennessee is starting to get real banged up on defense and I can see an incentive laden Chargers squad coming away with the convincing win here today.

Titans are 1-8 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.

Play Against - Home teams (Tennessee) - in a game involving two average teams (within +/- 40 YPG of their opponents) after 8+ games, after allowing 400 or more total yards in their previous game. This money making situational trend has gone 26-9 over the past 4 seasons hitting at a solid 74%.

Weekly Wipeout - Tennessee

Both teams are off important wins and both need another victory here. The Titans need the game much more though. The Chargers are already in the playoffs while they are not. In addition to being more motivated and playing at home, the Titans have the schedule on their side and the fact that this is a short week works in their favor. The Chargers had to travel from San Diego to get here. The Titans played here last week. Ladanian Tomlinson has had a great career. The Titans boast the much better running game though - as Chris Johnson leads the league with over 1700 rushing yards. The Titans also aren't giving up nearly as much in the passing game as the stats would suggest. Rivers is having a great year but Young is coming off a game which saw him throw three TD passes. He's also the much bigger threat to make plays with his legs. Fisher is arguably the better coach too and he has always excelled at getting his team ready to play for home games against top tier teams. That's demonstrated by the Titans outstanding 17-4-2 ATS record as home favorites of 3 points or less. The Chargers may go far in the playoffs but this is the type of team that is capable of really giving them trouble. Look for them to to control the line of scrimmage with Johnson delivering another 100+ yards on the ground and the Titans earning the critical win and cover. *8 Tennessee

Game of the Week - Cleveland

The popular opinion is that home teams have an advantage on Christmas Day. That's reflected in the line, which we've seen go up for this game. Keep in mind that visiting teams covered the spread in three of five games last Christmas and that four of five were decided by single-digits. Christmas or otherwise, getting points with the Cavaliers has been a winning proposition. In fact, Cleveland is a perfect 3-0 ATS this season when listed as an underdog and all three games resulted in outright victories. The last time they were underdogs (at Phoenix) they won by 18 points. The Cavaliers have also been excellent on the road. They've won 11 of their last 16 away from Cleveland. The Cavaliers also come in with something to prove. The Lakers beat them both games last season and the Lakers are the champs. They have what the Cavaliers want and Cleveland is anxious to show they can play with and beat the champs. Cleveland has been at its best against winning teams, going 10-2 SU and 9-3 ATS. Conversely, the Lakers are just 5-7 ATS against teams with a winning record. In a game that will likely come right down to the wire and could easily be decided in the final seconds, lets grab the points. *9 Cleveland.

Titans -3

There is no doubt these are two of the hottest teams in football. San Diego is have a monster year passing the ball which the Titans cant seem to stop the pass. Tennessee is running the ball well behind Chris Johnson who is a good choice for MVP this year while the Chargers are not too good at stopping the run. Both teams have strengths in this game, but if you look at tonight's conditions of 10-20mph winds and temperatures below freezing then the team with the better running game becomes that more important. Both teams should move the ball, but you have to question the Chargers rhythm on offense. Center Nick Hardwick might return today, but if not the backup is out and they are going to have problems with timing. If your timing is off on the road it is hard to win. Lets go with the team that needs the win to stay in the playoffs on their home turf. Look for the Titans to control the clock with the run. Take Tennessee.

The Duke's Sports

San Diego (+3) for 2.5 Units

We faded the Chargers last week vs Cincinnati and cashed the winning ticket this week, we like SD for several reasons: SD is 11-3 ATS on the December road following back-to-back SU wins; moreover, they're 16-3-3 ATS as a road dog, and they covered 6 straight in this series. Tennessee, however, lost the heart of their defense last week in Keith Bulluck (ACL). Bulluck is to Tenn as to what Antonio Pierce is to New York. And we know how NY struggled immediately following Pierce's season ending injury. SD will look to exploit several weaknesses in the Tennessee secondary, and surely they're capable of doing so. Tennessee sports a disappointing 1-8 ATS vs teams above .500; moreover, Fisher is a money burning 1-17 ATS as a home favorite of 3 or more vs an opponent off a SU win of less than 10 points. SD the call.
