Saints / 49ers Under 44
The 49ers did not show up last week on the road in Seattle, but Seattle is a tough place to play and the 49ers have a lot of offensive line injuries that damage their ability to run the football. San Francisco is a run-first team behind running back Frank Gore. The problem is that they have been without their longtime starting center and now will be without their starting right guard in addition to having two rookies starting on the offensive line. You cannot light up the score board when that is the nucleus of your line. One thing bettors will overlook tonight is how good the 49ers play defense at home (similar to Cincinnati against Baltimore yesterday). The 49ers held 6 opponents to 10 or less points at home in 2009. I am not saying this will be the case with the Saints tonight, but they didn't look all that sharp last week at home and had issues making field goals. Neither team is a real threat with punt returns so I expect both teams to really have to work for the points tonight. When is the last time you saw the Saints involved in a game where the total was so low? Look for the 49ers to try to control the clock by running the ball and playing solid defense. Look for a low-scoring game. Take the Under.
