Dr Bob

Opinion

Boston (+2 ½) over ORLANDO

Orlando is now 1-2 with their new lineup after beating the Spurs on Thursday and I still think the Magic are overrated. In fact, a team that is 3.1 points better than average for the season shouldn’t be favored over a Celtics squad that is 8.8 points better than average for the season. Home court advantage for two rested teams is just 3 points, so Boston should be favored by 2 ½ or 3 points rather than the Magic being favored. Rajon Rondo is out for Boston but the Celtics are 6-1 straight up without Rondo (with the only loss being by 1 point) and their average game rating without him is actually slightly better (+9.4 points) than their season rating. I’d love to take Boston as a Best Bet here based on the line value but their win over the Spurs sets up the Magic in a 71-20-4 ATS home momentum situation. Orlando also applies to a negative 27-67-1 ATS situation, as good teams that end a losing streak actually tend to play poorly in the next game following the streak ending win. The situation favoring Orlando is stronger than the one going against them so I’ll resist making Boston a Best Bet here. I’ll lean with the Celtics plus the points.

The Duke's Sports

LA Lakers (-2') for 1.5 Units

The Lakers practiced hard on Thursday after their 98-79 debacle at home to Milwaukee Tuesday. We're going to look for the defending champs to play with championship intensity here on account of their proven ability to rise to the occasion when the lights shine the greatest. And despite the insignificance to this matchup at this time of year, pride and egos come into play. We'll look for the Lakers' team chemistry to gell tonight. And remember, the Heat are just 1-5 ATS against a .600 or above team. And Wade is forced to play with a strained knee, which won't help matters. LAL the call.
