NON-CONF KNOCKOUT GAME OF THE YEAR!
HOUSTON / TEXAS TECH
PLAY: TEXAS TECH -9
The Cougars have dropped three straight and still need a win to become bowl eligible. Texas Tech has six wins, but would like a 7th to ensure a bowl bid. I believe they'll get it here...by a wide margin. One of Houston's major problems of late has been the choices made by QB David Piland. The kid has a lot of talent, but he's young, and he's thrown six interceptions in the last two games. He'll also be the second best QB on the field in this one. Tech QB Tyler Potts leads the nation's 9th ranked passing offense. Potts takes care of the football with a 27-8 TD-INT mark. And his favorite WR, Lyle Leong goes unmatched in this one. They'll face a Houston defense that's equally bad against the run or the pass. The Cougars rank 99th in overall defense. They've allowed 217.3 yards rushing per game and 210.5 yards passing per contest, not to mention getting torched for 31.9 ppg. And not exactly against a murderer's row of opponents. Tech averages almost 310 yards passing per game and should have no trouble tearing through the Cougar defense. Texas Tech as been "money" in home finales, currently on a 22-3 SU, 19-5 ATS run. Meanwhile, Houston has covered just 2 of their last 11 as an underdog of 3 1/2 to 10 points. I'm laying the points with Texas Tech on Saturday night.

Rest and revenge game for the Wildcats here on Saturday afternoon. They have a vision of a good bowl game and are healthy after their BYE. Kentucky is talented and also hungry due to the 25 year losing streak against the Vols. A bowl game is extra practices for a young Kentucky team and I think they'll be fired up here. and the extra practices with such a young team.
Although there is the appearance of a late-season Tennessee turnaround to get the Vols back to within a win here of being bowl eligible, some of those results have to Be taken with a grain of salt. Memphis did not even bother to compete; Vanderbilt Was a badly depleted side; and it was a 5-0 TO differential that produced that pretty Scoreboard vs. Ole Miss, including two INT’s that were returned for TD’s.
Now having to play a Kentucky team that comes in about as fresh as anyone can for Game #12. Three weeks ago the Wildcats had an easy time of it vs. Charleston Southern in what was little more than a scrimmage. Two weeks ago it was a rout Of Vanderbilt that did not challenge them physically. And last week it was a bye That brings them at an unseasonably fresh energy level to avenge the bitter memory Of last year’s 30-24 overtime home loss to the Volunteers. All of that recent down Time helps to finally get Derrick Locke back to full health, and he once again combines With Randall Cobb to exploit a tired Tennessee defense, especially with the Precision of Mike Hartline to help get them the ball in the right places. They dictate This flow, as the Wildcats get their revenge in style with a strong passing attack.
