Toledo –5 @ Ball State
Pick: Toledo –5
Let’s face it Toledo’s Quarterback Opelt was not going to put up impressive numbers against Ohio State, but he has proven himself otherwise with passing games of 423, 319 and 343 yards this season. New Hampshire & North Texas passed for over 200 yards against Ball State defense so Opelt will have no problem moving the ball downfield. The running of senior DaJuane Collins, the throwing of senior Aaron Opelt, the receiving of senior Stephen Williams and freshman sensation Eric Page all give Toledo enough weapons to dominate this game. Collins is coming off a game where he carried the ball 19 times for a game-high 151 yards and two touchdowns. Stephen Williams caught a team-high six passes for 116 yards last week. The senior has 10 career games where he has had more than 100 receiving yards.
Cardinals are at a low point in the season off to a 0-4 start that includes two home losses to North Texas and New Hampshire. Ball State’s offense will struggle keeping up with the Toledo offense since they are scoring fewer than 20 points in the first three games of the season. News did not get better when they lost a backup CB to a serious knee injury and FS Baker will be playing with heavy padding on the hand.
Last week Ball State changed their game plan and went with small stuff for their inexperienced QB. Auburn’s defense did not look prepared for this game style and Page was able to produce what looks to be ok numbers. He will need to be able to make big plays to keep up with Toledo. Ball State will really need WR Jeremy Hill, the Cardinals’ only legitimate deep threat in the passing game to play since he left last week’s game late in the second quarter after sustaining a hamstring injury. His status for this week is uncertain.
Toledo offense keeps scoring leading them to an easy victory
Gold Play
Ohio State –17 @ Indiana
Pick: Ohio State –17
Big deal the Hoosiers almost beat an overrated Michigan Wolverines. Just the week before Indiana could have lost to Akron U; a couple big plays away from a loss. I love the spot we find the Buckeyes sitting. Our perception tells us that 17 points is to many points to be giving to a team that almost beat Michigan. The difference is the Buckeyes defense is no Wolverine defense. The OSU D-line has controlled the trenches, if the Hoosiers struggled in the red zone against Michigan things are not going to be any easier for them. Indiana got to spend the week thinking about the loss and Ohio State is aware that this team is able to shock. The Buckeyes know they need to stay focused for this game. Pryor is a much better passer than he is getting credit for. The numbers he put up last week were not that great but he was limited due to the constant rain in Columbus.
Field position will be huge for this game. Ohio State will always have good field position and I expect them to get points on every possession.
Illinois vs. Indiana – I am taking Illinois straight up! But for some reason we are getting better line value this week. Thank you Michigan for making Indiana look impressive.
I have taken the Buckeyes ATS twice and the under once this year going 3-0. I will say it again as I did in prior weeks. Ohio State’s defense is underrated. Hoosiers will be lucky if they score ten points.
Ohio State has success running the ball the last two weeks but look for Prior to air it out this week. He will have his best game of the year this week!
