WUNDERDOG
Game: Milwaukee at New York Mets
Pick: New York Mets +125
The Brewers go for the sweep of the Mets here, but I think New York staves that off. Yovani Gallardo is 8-1 at home but just 5-7 on the road. R.A. Dickey's record is awful, but he's actually pitched pretty well (3.77 ERA). He's facing a Brewers club that averages just 3.9 runs per game on the road. Like Gallardo, the entire Brewers ballclub is Jekyll and Hyde. At home this team is nearly unbeatable at 47-16. But on the road, they are 28-36. As an underdog this season, the Mets own a near .500 record. As a small underdog (+100 to +150), they win more than they lose. Take the live home dog in this one. Back the Mets.

Bengals at Jets
Pick: Jets -6
The Bengals are spoon-feeding rookie Andy Dalton and piecing an offensive line together in front of him, so look for a heavy dose of Cedric Benson, who has had success against the Jets in prior meetings. Still, on the road with a home date coming up on Thursday, don't look for Cincinnati to risk much here. Benson, key to the entire season, is going to be preserved. The Bengals will keep things simple and try to keep their quarterbacks out of situations where the Jets can pin their ears back and come with pressure preseason or not, this is Rex Ryan and will have to be pleased with walking out of the New Meadowlands in a single piece. Lay the points and back the Jets and the under, as Cincinnati won't be able to get into double-figures.

4* FLORIDA / SAN DIEGO OVER 6.5
Even in Petco Park, you need to have two good starters on top of their game in order for a “6” to be the right range. An Anibal Sanchez/Cory Luebke matchup does not bring that, so we are in play in a setting in which it does not take much of a leap to clear the low hurdle that has been set.
Sanchez got off to a strong start this season but has done nothing but labor since then – over his past nine starts it has been a 1-4/6.43, and even in getting that lone win at Colorado in his last outing he was tagged for three HR’s. That form does not turn around against a San Diego lineup that has several bats on form, including the sizzling Nick Hundley, who is 15-28 since coming off of the DL, with four 2B’s, three 3B’s and a pair of HR’s in that span. And with Sanchez allowing base-runners to steal at an 84.6 percent clip this season, a Padre team that leads the Major Leagues in both steals and success rate can get the running game into high gear.
Meanwhile Luebke helps to bring this price point because of his full-season 2.99 allowance, but we see signs that he is running low on fuel. This will be his 40th appearance today, and 11th straight turn in the rotation, and a guy who had built those allowance counts on precision control is seeing that slip away – in 11 IP over his last two outings he has issued seven W’s, working to an 18.7 PPI. And note that so much of that overall bottom line is also a result of a great luck of the draw – half of his 10 starts have come against teams that comprise the bottom four in the Major League’s in runs scored (Giants twice, Dodgers, Pirates and Mariners).
