It was exactly one year ago at this time during a Sunday full of NFL “divisional” playoff contests that the lone Big Sky Conference basketball contest saw a sizeable 8’-point road underdog pull off an outright upset and we could see that once again late this afternoon. On paper this particular game is a mismatch between thriving Montana State (7-0 SU/5-0 ATS at home averaging 81 points per game) against struggling Eastern Washington (0-9 SU/2-5 ATS on the road). But last year in this series it was Eastern Washington who won both clashes outright on the scoreboard, while an Eastern Washington visit to this location back in the 2009 campaign produced a close contest decided by a FOUR-point margin. Even though earlier this week they lost once again in a road contest, Eastern Washington’s defense held a heavily favored opponent WITHOUT a field goal for more than a SIX-minute stretch which gives us what I like to call a “defensive underdog” For those who followed the recently completed college football Division I-AA playoffs, you know that the Eastern Washington gridiron squad pulled off stunning upsets enroute to the school’s first-ever National Championship title. Eastern Washington took advantage all season with their unique “red home turf” which constantly confused opponents and the school pulled off an upset as a “double digit” home underdog in one of the I-AA national semifinals. It was ten days ago as a 9’ point underdog when Eastern Washington climbed out of a 19-0 hole to win the National Championship on a neutral field. Basically these are “feel good” times for Eastern Washington even though their basketball team (3-12) is having problems winning games. My database research indicates that in the past two years Montana State is actually a disastrous “0-6” ATS when facing a horrible opponent who has won only 20-to-40 percent of their games

5 UNITS - CHICAGO BEARS -10
The Chicago Bears had a much better season than anyone had imagined. The Packers and Vikings were supposed to fight it out for supremacy in the NFC North, but it was the Bears that won. The Seattle Seahawks are now the Cinderella darling of the playoffs. Let's rewind the tale of this team over the last 2 weeks and then before. The Seahawks hosted the St. Louis Rams for what amounted to a playin game in week 17. Noone wanted to touch the Seahawks, with 70% of the public on St. Louis. The Seahawks rose up and beat the Rams rather handily16-6 keeping them out of the endzone. Last week noone wanted any part of this team vs the reigning Superbowl Champion New Orleans Saints, but they rose up to the occasion and beat them 41-36. Now the Seahawks have been anointed the chosen one, as a team that noone wanted to touch is now a public darling with 60% behind them. Are we overlooking th fact this team gave up nearly 500 yards last week? Maybe we are forgetting their last 5 games vs teams with a winning record show them losing by a total of 114 points or 22.8ppg? Oh but they beat the Saints, and beat Chicago in Chicago, therefore they will stay within 10 points here. WRONG! The fact they beat Chicago here, is serving notice to the Bears and they won't be caught off guard. Seattle lost 9 games by 15 points or more, which tops any team in the league, and they are not home anymore! They will get crushed here. This also fits my 18-1 ATS system for the divisional round a well as the 22-6 ATS system. Bears in a blowout.
5 UNITS - NY JETS +9.5
The New England Patriots have won 8 straight games, and has scored 30+ points in everyone of them. They have held 4 of their last 5 opponents to 7 points or less, so how in the world are the Jets going to even be in this game by halftime? That is the logic of someone that doesn't do very well in picking games. The jets have done very well in defending the Patriots offense. If you look at the last 8 meetings, excluding the year Brady missed, the Jets have held New England to 20,9,14, and 14 points in 4 of them. The fact the Patriots won 8 straight games is a huge negative, because they are now way overpriced. Teams that enter a playoff game on an 8 game winning streak or longer are 2-10 ATS! The jets also were doninated by New England 45-3 in their last meeting. teams revenging a loss vs an opponent of 14 points or more and have a winning record on the season are 29-4-2 ATS! This game also fits my 18-1 ATS and 22-6 ATS division round angles. I'm going with the Jets here.
