Lenny Del Genio

Florida St. -3.5

We like the Noles here in a first place battle in the ACC Atlantic Division as a small road favorite. QB Ponder is going to play from all accounts and that means big things from the offense after a close call 12 days ago against Boston College. Ponder threw three picks and fumbled once in the 24-19 victory as huge 22.5-point favorites, but we'll chalk that up to the letdown effect following the team's huge showing the previous week at Miami where they won 45-17 for us. Florida State has now won five straight after suffering its only loss of the season (Oklahoma) with all but the BC win coming by double-digits, in fact all were by 20 or more. They scored 31 points or more in all of those games. NC State, meanwhile, is going the wrong way after the first 4-0 start in the Tom O'Brien era with losses to Virginia Tech and East Carolina where the defense surrendered a total of 74 points. Huge edge defensively here for the Seminoles as they are tops in the ACC, allowing just 16.1 PPG, which also ranks 13th nationally. As mentioned above, Ponder has played very well this season, completing over 60% of his passes for 1187 yards and 12 TD's, so look past the last game. In its last game, NC State trailed East Carolina 21-0 and gave up nearly 500 yards total offense. Florida State has won three straight in this series, including a wild 45-42 win last year in Tallahassee that saw nearly 1100 yards of total offense. That's worth mentioning as Ponder wasn't 100% in that game either, but led an eight play, 66 yd drive for the win with less than two minutes remaining. Take the better team at a very cheap price. Florida State is our Thursday CFB Oddsmaker Mismatch.

All set to get back into the win column with another Thureday night winner, and it will be a 1500♦ ACC Lead Pipe Lock on NC State Wolfpack plus the poincts at home against the Florida State Seminoles. As I type this analssis the Wolfpack are a solid field goal underdog at home to the Sems.

Both teams have been off since the 16th when Florida State won a turnover-laden 24-14 decision over Boston College but failed to cover as the 22 1/2-point favorite. On that same day, the Wolfpack were upset in overtime at East Carolina as the 8-point choice.

Normally that loss by the Wolfpack would be a red flag, but East Carolina ALWAYS gives NC State batctle, and this year was no exception.

I am more concerned with the way Christian Ponder was throwing more picks than TD's in that game (3 ints. vs. 2 TD passes!), and I have a strong feeling that this improved NC State stop unit will be able to pick one or two off in front of the home crowd.

NC State has covered 7 of their last 10 when catching points at home, and their mark in this series is an unquestionable 8-0-1 the last 9, with covers in the last 5. The 'Pack is in "triple revenge", as the Seminoles have won the last 3 series meetings, with last year's showdown being decided by a field goal in Tallahassee.

Russell Wilson is a grizzled veteran now, and he has done a tremendous job getsing rid of the ball which will be paramount against the Florida State pass rush, and Wilson is also averaging over 300 yards passing per game.

The Seminoles have won 5 in a row since their crash-and-burn at Oklahoma, tonight I see that streak coming to a halt.

Take the points with this live home dog!
