Even though Philadelphia just swept a home series against a playoff bound opponent with all 3 contests nationally televised, the Phillies suffered a significant INJURY last night as starting secondbaseman Chase Utley was hit in the helmet and suffered what has been called a mild concussion. Utley has not traveled with the team to Milwaukee and will obviously not be available for this evening, but Philadelphia did activate veteran shortstop Jimmy Rollins off the disabled list. The problem with Rollins is that his sore groin has not fully healed and he will NOT be able to resume his normal starting role for the forseeable future. What this means is that the mighty Phillies will be operating tonight with RESERVE players at a pair of critical "double play" defensive positions. It is easy to see why the oddsmakers have cast Philadelphia as a road favorite tonight as this juggernaut has already reached the 90-win plateau and just handed Atlanta their initial 3-game losing streak of the season. But the fact of the matter is that Milwaukee has the best HOME record in all of baseball (50-19) where sluggers Prince Fielder (19 homers) and Ryan Braun (.356 batting average) have thrived. Even though Cole Hamels is one of the All Star arms in the Philadelphia rotation he did surrender a generous 2 homerun balls last time on the mound. Here is a 63-PERCENT SYSTEM (74-43 the past five years in a battle between a pair of winning sides) that actually plays AGAINST road favorites like Philadelphia laying 150-or-less. This system is exclusive to the month of "September" which is still the regular season and not the playoffs. For the entire campaign when off consecutive low scoring affairs that held below the total, Milwaukee has gone a mind boggling "17-3" so I for one refuse to overreact to their problems earlier in the week
