No matter, as the Vikes have become old news, while the elusive Michael Vick and Philly feeling unbeatable and finding themselves in the driver's seat for a first-round playoff bye after the latest Miracle at The Meadowlands last week. Eagles are a perfect (7-0) ATS as favorites in this series since 1990. Philly is (13-2-1) ATS at home after battling the Giants and (12-2) ATS in non-division games before dealing with the Cowboys.

Not that many hours ago (typing this, late Saturday afternoon), it wasn't supposed to be this way, but the winter storm headed for the Northeast on the day after Christmas is going to absolutely HAMMER Philly -- and Sunday night is supposed to be the worst of it. With sustained winds in the mid-30-MPH range with frequent gusts over 50 MPH, the Viking/Eagle game will be a nightmare for the offenses. Toss heavy snow into the equation, and we're ready to roll. Michael Vick is a talent, but you're not dealing with a snow-specialist like Tom Brady, here . . . and the through of Joe Webb trying to get something going with the Viking offense under these conditions cannot be taken seriously.

This pick falls into one of my top NFL systems and this is too many points for the Eagles to cover against a very good Vikings team who is expected to have Adrian Peterson back in the line-up to handle the load on offense. Peterson is the best back in the NFL and is always a threat to take it to the end-zone so having him back will be a big boost for this Vikings offense that will likely be without Brett Favre. The Bears-Vikings game last week is a bit misleading because the Vikings had 5 turnovers mainly because Joe Webb was not prepared enough. Webb has practiced with the offense all this week for the first time this season and they have tailored a game plan for him to use his talents more precisely. The Eagles are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games after putting up more than 350 total yards in their previous game and Michael Vick will not be 100% today after a leg injury suffered last week has not healed, so expect his running capabilities to be minimal. This is classic weather happening at the LINC in Philadelphia. For those who have never sat in the edifice, the openers are brutal wind currents that can savage, not only the fans, but the kicking and passing efforts of the NFL combatants. The Eagles have gone UNDER in 22 of 30 game after scoring in their price range last time out. Also, the Vikings are in a sub-system in night games over the last ten years, that points to a low scoring game. With the Farve issue, look for Minnesota to be very conservative, not matter trying to extract a victory with defense and special teams. By the way, if you are looking at the side of this game, look back at the history in Week #15. That research may prove to chance your opinion about the "expected" outcome.

For the second straight Sunday Night, we've got the home team laying a huge number against a team from the NFC North. Last week, playing without their starting QB, the Packers were double-digit underdogs at New England. This week, also dealing with some issues at QB, the Vikings find themselves as double-digit underdogs at Philadelphia. Last week, the Packers were able to hang within the big number. Tonight, I look for the Vikes to do the same.

The Eagles are having a great season and you're surely aware of what they did (incredible 4th quarter comeback) at New York last week. That comeback was certainly impressive. Let's not forget that they were down 31-10 in the first place. An incredible comeback like that can sometimes make a team feel it can come back from anything. While its nice to have that type of confidence, it can also lead to teams occasionally not being quite as intense out of the gate. After all, they have this feeling that they can always come back late the game. (That type of mentality doesn't work too well when trying to cover 2 TD pointspreads.)

Also, if there's ever a spot for an "emotional letdown," this one certainly has that potential for the Eagles. That's particularly true with rival Dallas on deck.

Favre is listed as doubtful for the Vikings - although we've learned to never count him out. (Don't be surprised if he starts.) If Favre doesn't go, Joe Webb will get the call. While his final numbers weren't very good against Chicago, I did like some things that I saw from him. I also like the fact that he now has those snaps under his belt and that he's now had time to properly prepare with another full week of practice. I won't expect any "miracles" from him. Assuming he's in there, facing an Eagles defense which hasn't been particularly good against the pass, I do expect him to be relatively solid though. Ditto for Favre, should he decide to show up with another "surprise" start.

I also expect a highly motivated effort from the Vikings defense. They gave up a lot of points (40) last week and some are suggesting they may have "packed it in." This is still a talented defense though and one with plenty of pride. The 308.1 total yards per game that the Vikings allow ranks sixth best in the league.

While they've played at some very tough venues, including New York, New Orleans and New England, prior to last week's blowout loss against the Bears, the Vikings had only lost by more than 20 points once this season. After a 31-3 loss to the Green Bay, the Vikes responded by going out on the road and earning a 17-13 victory over Washington, another NFC East opponent.

This is the Vikings final game against a playoff team this year and they feel that the fact that it comes on National TV gives them a chance to remind people that they're still a "good" team. They're 4-1 ATS the last five times that they were off back to back losses and I look for them to improve on those stats here.

The Vikes have seen the total go "under" the number in half of their 14 games to start the year, including in half their games on the road; last week they were annihilated 40-14 by the Bears, the total in that one sailing well above the posted number of 34.

Not only has Minnesota seen the total go "under" the number in 2 of 3 this year after 2 or more consecutive losses (which means of course that after a couple of sub par efforts, this team comes out and plays with an extremely concerted effort on the defensive side of the ball), but also in 2 of 5 over the last 2-seasons in the same position.

On the other side of the field: The Eagles have seen the total go "under" the number in just 4 of 14 (including 3 of 6 in front of the home town crowd); last week they played arguably the most exciting game this year and came back to steal a game from the Giants on the road behind a big fourth quarter push 38-31, the total going well above the posted number of 46 1/2.

Philadelphia is a high scoring team and its very hard to find any "under" trends that its exhibited in this position over the last 2-seasons, so it's very significant to note that it has in fact seen the total go "under" the number in 10 of its last 17 after 2 or more consecutive victories.

Bottom line: This has been the year of the QB. In fact, the leagues average of 44 1/2 points per game scored this year is the most since the inception of the Super Bowl.

This is a great "situational value" play; the Eagles will look to limit injury and take advantage of a severely depleted Vikings team which was man-handled last week and secure the division title.

The question of whether Favre will play this week is just another in a long list of distractions surrounding the floundering Vikes; "It will just be a day-to-day situation," Coach Leslie Frazier said. "If he gets cleared by our doctors then things will change, but until he's cleared there isn't much that can be done other than whatever the doctors recommend."
