Matt Fargo

Knicks at Kings
Pick: Knicks +4

The Knicks have lost six straight games after another tough one last night in Denver as they lost by a bucket. With the exception of a bad loss in Milwaukee, New York has not played as its 3-8 record indicates. Half of the Knicks losses have been by five points or fewer including two on the road against NBA heavyweights Boston and Denver. The Knicks snapped a five-game non-cover skid last night against the Nuggets and this begins a three-game road stretch of very winnable games. Sacramento is stuck in a five-game losing streak and this one is much worse than that of the Knicks. Four of the defeats have been by nine points or more and also four of those have come at home. The Kings started a surprising 3-1 on the year and there was talk this could be the year of the turnaround. Well, that has proven to be wrong. Two of those early wins came against Toronto and Minnesota, a combined 5-18 and while the Knicks may fit into that record category, they are playing better than those two teams. Looking at a quick line comparison, the Knicks were getting 7.5 points last night in Denver and now they are getting only 3.5 points less in Sacramento. There is no way the Nuggets are only 3.5 points better than the Kings. Sacramento has shot only 65.5 percent from the free-throw line during the losing streak. Since making 41.7 percent of their three-point shots in their last victory, against Toronto, the Kings haven't shot better than 27.8 percent from behind the arc. The Knicks fall into a solid situation as well. Play against home favorites with a winning percentage between .250 and .400 after four or more consecutive losses playing a team with a losing record. This situation is 65-28 ATS (69.9 percent) over the last five seasons. Also Sacramento is 4-14 ATS in its last 18 home games after allowing 100 or more points in two straight games while the Knicks are 14-3 ATS in their last 17 road games coming off a road game where both teams scored at least 100 points. 9* New York Knicks

10* Akron

I'm playing on AKRON. Miami Ohio has a winning record and comes in on a roll. Akron is winless. No brainer on the visitors, right? Not in my opinion! This is a huge game for the Zips. This is their chance to earn a win and to do it on "TV" (ESPNU). I believe that they've got the "situation" in their favor. Akron was competitive last time out. Playing on the road, at Ball State, they lost by seven. That was back on 11/6, so they've had plenty of preparation time. Miami Ohio, which has shown a tendency to let teams back in the game, is also off a close road game. The Redhawks won by three, at Bowling Green. They've had a "normal" week of rest, as that game was also on a Wednesday. However, this will be their third straight road game, which can be challenging. In fact, this is their fifth road game in their past six games. The Redhawks have won three of their last four games. However, the three wins came by an average of only seven points. In fact, only one of the Redhawks six road games resulted in a win of greater than seven points and that came by just 12. Even with last week's victory, the Redhawks are still 1-7 SU and 3-5 ATS in November the past few seasons. With an O/U line in the high 40s, it also worth noting that the Redhawks are a dismal 1-11 SU/ATS the last dozen times that they played a road game with an O/U line in the 45.5 to 49 range, incl. 0-5 SU/ATS their last five in that situation. The Redhawks, who have a banged-up starting QB, haven't fared as well as road favorites in this range. With Akron, 14-5 its last 19 November home games, "desperate" for a win, I'm grabbing all the points that I can get.

3* MIAMI(OH) -10(even) over Akron

The zips are 0-10 and they are dead last in total offense. They have only scored 20+ points in three games this season. Those three games are the only games where they have totaled over 300+ yards of offense. They are also #107 versus the pass and #113 in total defense. The Redskins are 6-4 on the year and their four losses are against some pretty good competition losing to Florida, Missouri, Cincinnati and Ohio. They are ranked #40 on defense and they are in the top 40 in passing offense. The only negative is that this is their fifth road game in the last six weeks, but the Zips are a very limited team on offense so Miami should have no problem here tonight. Also Miami still has a shot to win the MAC title with a little help. Lets back them here tonight. Miami 27 Akron 10

2* Washington +13.5 over the Celtics

The Celtics have been off since Saturday. If I can use last year as a guide, this was the type of situation where Doc Rivers took his foot off the pedal and let the boys rest up. They will do just enough to win(or maybe not they did have some horrific home losses last year) but covering double digits will be tough. Delonte West will be back from suspension tonight, so look for him to get some good minutes as he gets back into playing shape. Supposedly there will be no Wall tonight, but I heard he made the flight with the Wizards and why would they do that if he wasn't going to play?

2* Loyola Marymount +5.5 over Bradley

Loyola is going to surprise a lot of teams this year. This is their best team since the run and gun days of Bo Kimble and Hank Geathers. They return most of their team that went 18-16 last year. They also did a barnstorming tour in Europe to get some more experience in. I love when teams play these games before their season actually starts as they tend to be so much more in sync early and surprise people. Bradley is getting this line based on previous reputation and home court alone. Bradley barely squeaked out wins over D2 Tx-kingsville and a not so good N. Ill squad. Their main problem is they lost their All conference Player Brown for the season a couple of weeks ago. LMU just might win this game outright.

2* St Louis +165 over Detroit

At one point the Red Wings would welcome the Blues into their arena at any time because it usually resulted in a win. However, the Blues no longer dread trips to Detroit's Joe Louis Arena, where they have won three of the last four meetings and earned points in five of the last seven contests against the Red Wings. Halak has hit a small road bump stopping only 52 of the last 64 shots against for a three-game save percentage of .813. Tonight he should be able to get back on track. The Blues have focused on limiting opposing offense opportunities and bringing in a little more power on their own offense. The Blues promoted forward T.J. Hensick from Peoria and assigned forward Nicholas Drazenovic to the same club. The 24-year-old Hensick is Peoria's top scorer with six goals and 15 points in 13 games. Acquired in a June trade with Colorado, Hensick has 11 goals and 35 points in 99 NHL games.
