VEGAS EXPERTS

South Florida at Syracuse

We've delivered a couple of really nice wins on this page the last two days, and look to keep things going on Friday w/ USF, a road favorite off five straight ATS losses, playing at Syracuse. Both teams' previous week's results are a bit misleading when you considering the Orange were kept in their game at UConn, an eventual 28-21 loss, by five first half Huskies turnovers. UConn had the ball five times inside the Syracuse 32, yet only came away with 7 1st half points. South Florida, on the other hand, had a 158-87 edge in total yards (and a 10-0 lead) in the first half of their game vs. Rutgers and held the Knight to minus 7 yds rushing for the game. The Bulls are 5-1 ATS all-time vs. Syracuse, who is 2-9 ATS its last 11 Big East games.

Play on: South Florida

David Chan

Ottawa Senators @ Buffalo Sabres
PICK: Buffalo Sabres

I bet value where I see it and expect the 9-5-0 Buffalo Sabres to skewer the visiting 7-8-1 Ottawa Senators on Friday night.

Bottom line, the Senators are struggling without Captain Daniel Alfredsson in the lineup and have lost a season worst four in a row.

Buffalo is going for a season-high fourth straight win and a sixth in a row in this series.

Buffalo earned a hard fought 6-5 OT victory over Winnipeg on Tuesday and I fully expect this team to build some momentum from that win.

Buffalo backup goaltender Jhonas Enroth could very well be back in net here after improving to 4-0-0 with a 1.41 GAA in Saturday's 3-2 SO win over Ottawa, a game in which he made 25 saves.

Ottawa is 0 for 11 on the power play over its last four games.

Craig Anderson has given up 12-goals while starting each of those contests between the pipes.

These two teams are moving in opposite directions; I'm laying the price!

TEDDY COVERS

Valparaiso @ Georgia Southern
PICK: Valparaiso -5.5

Teddy nailed another college football winner last night with Virginia Tech's double digit win at Georgia Tech. He's on fire right now: 86% over the past week, 67% over the past month. Teddy is also on a 27-10 (72%) NCAA-B hot streak, picking up right where he left off last March! Don’t miss a single guaranteed winner this weekend!

Bryce Drew has taken over for his dad as the new Valparaiso head coach, but the program’s not going to change very much. The Crusaders talent level was good enough for them to beat NCAA runner-up Butler last year as part of their 23 win season. Despite some graduation losses, we saw them hang with Arizona in their season opener. The Crusaders did not shoot well in that ballgame: 40 percent from the floor, 25 percent from three point range. They committed 18 turnovers. Both of those numbers should improve by leaps and bounds here – Valpo has a game under their collective belts and they’re up against a much weaker foe!

Make no mistake about it – even an improved Georgia Southern team is still a bottom feeder. They went 5-27 last year; 1-17 in Southern Conference play. This is nothing new or different for the Eagles – they won only nine games in 2009-10, and eight games in 2008-09. Georgia Southern has a suspect interior game, no proven perimeter shooting, a consistently weak defense throughout the Charlton Young era. The Crusaders shot 56% on their last visit to this floor, a wire-2-wire win and cover. A similar result here would be no surprise to this bettor! Take Valpo.

Jim Feist

Cal Irvine vs California
Pick: Over

A pair of talented uptempo offenses meet on the court late Friday night at Cal. Cal-Irvine comes to town with a run-and-gun style, led by 6-8 forward Wil Davis. The over is 7-2-1 in Anteaters last 10 non-conference games, and 23-10-3 over the total in the Anteaters last 36 overall. No. 24 Cal can play any style, including uptempo, and the over is 21-5-1 in the Golden Bears last 27 overall. And they prefer to run at home, as the over is 36-16-1 in the Golden Bears last 53 home games. Play Irvine/Cal Over the total.

EZWINNERS

Syracuse Orange +3.5

South Florida was expected to compete for the Big East championship this season, but the Bulls have found new ways to lose games every week. South Florida fell to 0-4 in Big East play with their fourth straight loss last week after missing an easy field goal, and I don't like them laying points on the road. The Orange have lost two straight road games, but Syracuse is much improved this season and they are 4-1 at home including a big 49-23 win over West Virginia in their last home game. Syracuse has a serious home field edge in the Carrier Dome and Orange quarterback Ryan Nassib has outplayed his South Florida counterpart the more well-known B.J. Daniels. Syracuse out-physicaled this USF team in Florida last season and I expect that to happen again in this game. Skip Holtz teams thrive on the road as underdogs, but usually come up short as a favorite. Take the points.

JR O'Donnell

Vanderbilt -12.5

Tonight's game has the Oregon Ducks visiting the top ten ranked Vanderbilt Commodores fielding one of their better teams in the last "30" years. We rate Vandy with an EXPLOSIVE backcourt & powerful big men. For the Oregon Ducks who return "3" starters off a team that went 21-18, and has an interesting mix of "4" freshman, a Juco transfer plus three four year transfers, two who left their schools controversially to go with six returnees. Jr O has the Commes this year rated very high!!! The POWER MODEL is a @ - 15.66 points!!! Ducks struggle very early, but will mesh and be a factor in the PAC 12 by the end of the year.

Matt Fargo

Northern Illinois vs. Purdue
Play: Northern Illinois +26½

Matt opened last CBB season on an ABSOLUTE ROLL as he went 6-1 ATS (85.7%) and despite a loss in his opening report this season on William & Mary he is poised to get it back! This is the first big card of the CBB Season but Matt has isolated just one game and it is an ABSOLUTE BEAUTY! Join him as he brings home the hoops cash tonight! Get the CBB season rolling Friday!

Early in the college basketball season, linesmakers do not have a lot to go on so recent history comes into play and that can become a benefit for us. Case in point is Purdue, which finished 26-8 last season but was bumped in the second round of the NCAA Tournament by VCU. It was a tough ending in the careers of JaJuan Johnson and E'Twaun Moore and their presence will be missed, especially early on in the season. This is still a talented team but the line tonight may be looking too much into the past.

Forward Robbie Hummel returns to the lineup following a second ACL injury on his right knee and all indications are that he is 100 percent and hopefully he can remain injury free this season. Starting point guard Lewis Jackson returns as do four other players who averaged at least 19 minutes per game but this is a team with a lot of inexperience. Teams such as this use this part of the season to try and find a comfort level and build rotations and chemistry as they are not at the point of being dominating.

Northern Illinois has a school-record string of five consecutive 20-loss seasons so it was time for a change. The Huskies brought in former Michigan St. assistant coach Mike Montgomery and his arrival brought in early dividends. He landed a strong recruiting class led by Abdel Nader who originally committed to New Mexico but changed his mind and came to DeKalb. He was a First Team All-State player in high school where he averaged 23.8 ppg and 8.6 rpg.

Tim Toler will be back in the frontcourt for the Huskies, and will give them a much needed presence inside as he averaged 9.9 ppg and 5.5 rpg last season. This team is extremely young but that is a positive for a team that that has gone through so many losing seasons. That is another reason we are getting such a generous line. Don't expect head coach Curtis Painter to be running up the score as he has one goal in mind. "We have a lot of versatility but need to see how guys are able to play alongside one another" 3* Northern Illinois Huskies

Jeff Scott Sports

3 UNIT PLAY

Washington -133 over NEW JERSEY: The Caps have struggled with the Devils as they have won just 4 of the last 16 and they come into this one on a 2 game slide, after losing to the Isles and Stars. Coach Bruce Boudreau has not been happy with his team's poor play of late and he really let them have it since their game vs Dallas. Washington is 2nd in the league in scoring at 3.8 gpg and they are 3rd on the PP scoring on 255 of their chanes, while the Devils check in 24th in scoring (2.3 gpg) and 25th on thbe PP (12.5%). Washington is an angry team with just too many weapons for the Devils to handle and they should get back on track tonight.

2 UNIT PLAY

CHICAGO -148 over Calgary: Blackhawks are just playing too well right now to think they will lose this one at home and the Fla,es are just 3-12 in their last 15 vs a team with a winning record.

1 UNIT PLAY

Vancouver -110 over ANAHEIM: The Canucks are 21-8 in their last 29 vs the Pacific, while Anaheim comes in having lost 6 in a row overall. Look for both trends to continue.

NHL Predictions

Dallas Stars +119

A battle of the East and West’s tops teams at the moment. The Dallas Stars come into tonight’s game with an 11-3 record, good for 1st in the Western Conference. The Penguins are 9-3-3, putting them on top of the Eastern Conference. The Dallas Stars are on their third game of their four game road trip, and they have won four straight coming into tonight, including 5-2 wins over Carolina and Washington to begin the mini road trip. The Stars have enjoyed 2 days off to prepare for the Penguins. Pittsburgh is coming off of a 3 game road trip in which they lost 2 of the 3 games. The Penguins haven’t played at home since October 27th. Take note that the Penguins are 1-4 in their last 5 home games following a road trip of 7 or more days. They are also on 5 days of rest, and are just 1-5 in their last 6 games playing on 3 or more days of rest. Tonight’s starter for the Stars will be Kari Lehtonen who is 11-1 on the season with a 2.13 GAA and .936 SV%. Every game Lehtonen is in-between the pipes the Stars have a good chance at winning. Take note that Lehtonen is 7-3-2 in his career against Pittsburgh, and he is 5-0 on the road this season. Marc-Andre Fleury should be in net for the Pens, and he is 8-2-1 on the season with a 1.95 GAA and .931 SV%. The Stars are averaging 3.1 goals per game this season, and 4.60 goals per game over their last 5 games. Dating back to last season the Stars are 15-7 in their last 22 vs Eastern Conference opponents, and are 5-2 in their last 7 games as an underdog. The Penguins are just 3-8 in their last 11 home games vs a team with a road winning % of greater than .600. Dallas has been in some high tempo games lately and have been playing great, while the Penguins were on a somewhat long road trip and a layoff at home. This isn’t a good situation for the Penguins to be in playing against the Western Conference’s top team, and I think the Stars can take advantage tonight. The Stars are another very live underdog tonight and we will take them to win.

Jimmy Boyd

1 Unit North Carolina -11

The Tar Heels have had Michigan State's number in recent years, going 5-0 SU and ATS in the last 5 meetings with an average winning margin of 17.8 points. Expect the Heels to make it 6 straight covers against Sparty this evening. This year's Heels might be the most talented team Roy Williams has had at UNC. Harrison Barnes is a preseason All-American who can score inside and out. Tyler Zeller is a skilled big with much more athletic ability than he gets credit for. Forward John Henson, who was the ACC’s Defensive Player of the Year, is one of the best defenders in the country. Point guard Kendall Marshall is the glue. He's fast with the ball, has great court vision and is a gifted passer. Michigan State isn't nearly as talented, and it will especially miss point guard Kalin Lucas in this battle. The Tar Heels are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 versus the Big Ten and 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games as a favorite of 7.0-12.5 points. Lay the number.

SPORTS WAGERS

Dallas +126 over PITTSBURGH

Kari Lehtonen is 11-1 with a GAA of 2.13 and that alone makes the Stars worthy of a play here. In addition, the Penguins could be a bit rusty after being off for six days after returning from a brief three-game trip that ended with two games on the West Coast. Currently, everything is going right for the Stars. They’re playing with a lot of confidence, they’re hot and to compliment their outstanding goaltending, they’re scoring plenty of goals. They’ve scored five or more in three straight games and three or more in six straight. The Pens are among the elite teams, but the anticipation of Sidney Crosby’s return has attracted a circus like atmosphere in terms of media coverage and that’s a distraction. The Stars are in a good situational spot and offer up some nice value here. Play: Dallas +126 (Risking 2 units).

Rob Vinciletti

Carolina Hurricanes vs. New York Rangers
Play: New York Rangers

Were gonna ride the Rangers as they are in the midst of a hot streak winning their last 5 games. The Rangers have been one of the better defensive teams thus far as they are 3rd best in the league in goals allowed per game. They have won 10 of the last here vs Carolina. The Panthers have dropped 4 of the last 5 and 6 of the last 9 overall vs East conference teams. Look for the Rangers to emerge with another win.
