Washington's defense is one of the weakest units in the league. But timing could be right here as the Niners arrive here after dropping a pair of down to the wire games against the Panthers and Saints respectively. San Franscisco still ranks 32nd in passing yards at 168 per game, nearly 20 yards behind the 31st placed Raiders. The Redskins have taken a significant step backward after an inspiring 2012 campaign but they still employ some weapons on offence and despite their porous record, a couple of wins could change things in volatile NFC East. This will be treated as a make or break game and a close one would not surprise. TAKING: REDSKINS +5½

The 49ers come into this game off of a 23-20 loss to the Saints in New Orleans and have now dropped two straight. At 6-4 they are realistically limited to playing for a potential wildcard opportunity as the Seahawks hold a commanding 3.5 game lead in the NFC West. Adjusted season numbers show a team that has a below average passing offense (168 yards at 6.1 yps against teams that average 218 yards at 6.1 yps) while having a strong run game and a good defense (allowing 325 yards at 5.1 yppl to teams that gain 350 yards at 5.5 yppl on average). On the other side, the Redskins have now lost their last two games to fall to 3-7 but still have a shot in a weak NFC East as they only trail the Eagles by 2.5 games. Season numbers show the Redskins to be a slightly above average offense (412 yards at 5.8 yppl against teams that average 389 yards at 5.8 yppl) but some of that production has been generated in garbage time. The Redskins have averaged only 9.9 first half points which is 26th in the league and have trailed big in several games this year before making final stats and scores appear to be better than their actual competition level. Last week they trailed the Eagles 24-0 in the fourth quarter before making it interesting with 16 late points and I don’t think the 49ers defense will let them back in the game if that happens here. My model favors the 49ers by only (-5.3) and the Redskins qualify in a good 179-82-5 situation but I can’t play on Washington here. The 49ers are the better team and are off two consecutive losses so they will be highly motivated to play well on Monday night football. Based on the situation, I’ll offer a weak lean to the Redskins plus the points.

The Niners are in a must win game here, losing 2 straight,and now fighting for a wildcard spot. The Redskins are a team that now has virtually no chance at making the playoffs, and their is players talking about one another to the media. Look for the Niners to get back to the win column and get a big road win on MNF.

The Pelicans have won three straight games (all as a favorite). Don't get too impressed with the wins, they were over the Sixers, Jazz and Cavs. Despite the wins, the Pelicans are just 1-5 ATS in their last six. Meanwhile San Antonio looks to keep doing what they have the last few years, WIN. The Spurs have lost just one game all season and that was back on Nov 2. They have also covered five of their last seven games. New Orleans is just 1-4 S/U and ATS on the road this year. The home team has done well in this series, covering 21 of the last 29 meetings. I look for the Spurs to run away with this one on Monday.
