JACK JONES

UConn +4 over South Carolina

Two teams who were headed in opposite directions to finish off the season. The Huskies lost a close game at Cincinnati on November 7th, 45-47 but then rattled off wins at Notre Dame, then at home against Syracuse and South Florida.

South Carolina started off 5-1, but then a loss at Alabama sent them into a tailspin. This team snuck by Vanderbilt before losing badly at Tennessee and Arkansas. Then a loss to Florida before closing their season out with a win over Clemson.

UConn did a good job of scoring this year, putting up 32.1 ppg against teams allowing 25.1. South Carolina played five games away from home this year and only managed to score 15.8 ppg in those contests. If UConn gets off to a fast start, the Gamecocks can't keep up offensively so I'll ride the Huskies.

Info Plays

3* on Rockets/Hornets UNDER 194.5

Reasons why this game goes UNDER:

1.) System Play. We'll Play Under - All teams where the total is between 190 and 199.5 points (NEW ORLEANS) - off an upset win as an underdog against opponent off a win against a division rival. This is a 44-16 UNDER System hitting 73.3% over the last 5 seasons.

2.) The UNDER is 7-2 in the last 9 overall meetings, and the UNDER is a PERFECT 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in New Orleans. When these teams get together, a defensive battle usually ensues and we'll predict another one here tonight. Bet the UNDER.

Black Widow

1* on Minnesota Timberwolves +5

The Timberwolves are coming around. They are 12-6 ATS in their last 18 games overall. Indiana has lost 8 straight games, going 2-6 ATS in the process. They have been bitten by injuries, with starters Troy Murphy, Jeff Foster and Danny Granger all out still. They just don't have enough talent left in the cupboard to compete on a consistent basis without those guys. Indiana is 14-30 ATS (-19.0 Units) in home games when playing against a terrible team (Win Pct. <=25%) since 1996. The Pacers are 1-10 ATS (-10.0 Units) in home games after a home game where both teams score 100 or more points over the last 2 seasons. Indiana is 1-9 ATS (-8.9 Units) after allowing 100 points or more 2 straight games this season. Take Minnesota and the points.

JOHN MARTIN

1 Unit on Pacers/T'Wolves OVER 207.5

Minnesota is giving up 108.2 points/game on the road this season. Indiana gives up 102.7 points/game in all games this year. This contest has all the making of a shootout tonight in Indiana given these putrid defensive numbers. The Pacers are 16-5 OVER in home games versus poor foul drawing teams - attempting <=24 free throws/game over the last 2 seasons. Indiana is 17-7 OVER versus up-tempo teams averaging 83 or more shots/game over the last 2 seasons. Both squads are up-tempo teams that like to push the ball. Cash in with the OVER.

DAVE PRICE

1 Unit on Toronto Raptors +3.5

Plays against home favorites (Boston) after allowing 100 points or more in 2 straight games against an opponent after scoring 55 points or more in the first half in 2 straight games are 63-27 ATS the last 5 seasons (70%). And this system is already 5-1 ATS this season. Boston has struggled without Paul Piece, and now Rajon Rondo and Kevin Garnett are both listed as doubtful tonight. I just think the Celtics are too banged up right now to get back on track. We'll take the points.

VEGAS EXPERTS

Gonzaga at Illinois

Note that this game will be played in Chicago, at the United Center. Illinois has gone Over in all nine games where there was a posted total this year. Gonzaga has gone Over 30 of the last 40 times they've been an Underdog, a stretch that dates all the way back to 1997. They are also 46-25 Over on a neutral court. When you look at the Bulldogs results, that Duke game sticks out like a sore thumb. They've scored 90+ four different times already.

Play on: Over

Kansas vs. Temple
Play: Temple +6.5

Ai Simulator 3* graded play on Temple as they take on Kansas set to start at 5:30 EST. AiS shows a 70% probability that Temple will lose this game by 6 or fewer points and has a 48% probability of winning the game. AiS also shows that Kansas will hit between 40 and 46% from the field. Note that Kansas is 3-11 ATS (-9.1 Units) in road games when they make 40% to 46% of their shots in a game over the last 3 seasons. Temple is a solid 12-3 ATS (+8.7 Units) versus teams who make 8 or more 3 point shots/game on the season over the last 3 seasons; 12-2 ATS (+9.8 Units) in home games versus teams who average 40 or more rebounds/game on the season since 1997; 6-0 ATS (+6.0 Units) in home games after 5 straight games forcing opponent to commit 14 or less turnovers over the last 3 seasons. Take Temple.

Ben Burns

Vancouver Canucks at Dallas Stars
Prediction: Dallas Stars

These teams have faced each other twice so far this season. The home team won both of those meetings. The Canucks won 4-3, at Vancouver, back in early October. A few weeks later, playing at Dallas on 11/6, the Stars returned the favor. They won that one by a score of 2-1. With this being an afternoon game, played at Dallas, I expect the Stars to have the advantage.

Looking back further and we find the Stars at 10-4 the last 14 times that they were a host in this series. They've done a great job of shutting down the Canucks here. In fact, during that 14 game stretch, the Canucks only managed more than two goals twice, scoring one or less in eight of them. While I'm recommending a play on the 'side,' it's also worth mentioning that the 'under' was a profitable 10-2-2 during that stretch.

While the Stars are playing their third straight at home, the Canucks will be playing the fourth and final leg of a 4-game road trip. Having been unable to ring in the new year with friends and family, I won't be surprised if they get caught looking ahead to the return trip to Vancouver. Despite being favored, at Atlanta, the Canucks lost on Jan. 2nd last year. Don't be surprised if history repeats itself here with the Stars continuing their home ice dominance in the series. With the price in the pick'em range, consider Dallas.

Jeff Alexander

1 Unit on Arkansas/E. Carolina OVER 63.5

Bottom Line: I have uncovered a system I can't refuse in this one. Plays Over on all teams where the total is greater than or equal to 63, Arkansas in this case, in a game involving two average teams (within +/- 50 yards per game of their opponents) after 7+ games, in non-conference games, are 26-6 ATS the last 10 seasons. The average posted total in these games is 67.8 and the average combined score if 78.7. With the way both of these offenses performed down the home stretch of the regular season, I'm expecting a high scoring shootout here. Take the Over for 1 Unit.

SPORTS WAGERS

Pittsburgh -½ +1.14 over TAMPA BAY

The Lightning catch the Penguins at perhaps the worst possible time because the Pens have dropped three straight and will not be in the best of moods. Not only did they lose three straight but they lost at home to the Leafs, they lost in Buffalo after blowing a 3-0 lead and they lost to the Devils 2-0. Now they’ll take a big step down in class and they need to get right-sided soon. The Pens have a great history in recent years of second half surges and hopefully that last loss to the Devils (they’ve now dropped four straight games to New Jersey) woke this team up. The best news, however, is that the Lightning have won 15 games this season and only two of those wins have come against teams in the top 10 in the standings. Laying pucks on the road is usually not a good idea but there are exceptions. Had the Pens been on a three-game winning streak or even 2-1 or 1-2 in its last three this would not be a play. However, a three-game losing streak with this team is significant and chances are great they come out and play a strong game. Play: Pittsburgh -½ +1.14 (Risking 2 units).

Vancouver +1.05 over DALLAS

This one has to be played with OT included because the Stars lead the NHL in OT losses with 11. The Canucks are also heating up big time after a shaky October. Vancouver has now gone 5-2-1 over its last eight games on the road. Overall, they’ve won four of five with only loss over that stretch occurring in OT. They’ve scored the most power-play goals in the league and their penalty killing is moving up the ranks too after that aforementioned shaky start. At one point that unit was ranked 28th but are now ranked 17th. The Stars are coming off a couple of very nice wins over Chicago and Anaheim. However, they also ran into some very shaky goaltending in both those wins so its shortcomings were masked. In the Chicago game, Huet was yanked after allowing four goals on 10 shots and although Jonas Hiller played good in the subsequent game he, too, allowed a couple of soft goals. Things for the Stars are going to get a whole lot tougher here against Luongo and a Canuck team that has allowed two goals or less in five of its last seven games and have not allowed more than three goals against in 11 straight. Play: Vancouver +1.05 (Risking 2 units).

Colorado +1.16 over COLUMBUS

The equation in this one is rather simple in that the Jackets are the last team in the NHL you want to play as a favorite, meaning when they’re favored they’re about the best team to bet against. It’s incredible that the Jackets have scored one lousy goal in five straight games. Wait, it gets better. The Jackets have been held to one goal in seven of its last nine games and they have three wins over its last 22 games and one win in its last 12. So yeah, the Jackets can win, as anyone can win on a given night. However, laying juice with this squad is about as risky as possible and should be avoided because the Jackets score once a game and this isn’t soccer. Play: Colorado +1.16 (Risking 2 units).

RHODE ISLAND –1.03 over Oklahoma St.

The Cowboys are an impressive 11-1 thus far and that solid record has them way overvalued. This is not a good team (not even close), and all of its shortcomings will be exposed in a big way and it starts right here. What we have here is a well-known school with an 11-1 record playing a relative unknown and that’s why this game is a pick’em. Fact is, OSU has beaten up on a ton of garbage teams and they don’t have a notable win, nor a notable game on its résumé thus far. The list of teams that the Cowboys have played this year is about as poor a group as you’ll find anywhere and thus, its offensive stats are completely skewed. This is a sloppy, poor shooting squad that virtually has no bench and frankly, they have very little chance of going into Rhode Island and beating this very underrated Rams squad. What you may not know is that the Rams are 10-1 and in first place in the A-10 with a schedule that’s had at least two tough games and perhaps even three or four. Rhode Island went into Boston College and thumped the Eagles by 11, not to mention a win over Providence. The Rams are much deeper off the bench and they have a much more balanced group of scorers and it would not surprise one bit to see the Rams roll over this imposter by 15 points or more. Play: #538 Rhode Island (Risking 2.06 units to win 2).

Northern Colorado -4 over NORTHERN ARIZONA

It’s surprising to see this line at -4 considering Northern Colorado is 12-3 with wins over potential tournament teams like Montana and Denver and a close loss to Oklahoma. Northern Colorado plays both offense and defense equally well, placing in the top 100 in efficiency and shooting especially well from three-point range at 40%. Northern Arizona is already 0-2 in Big Sky conference play and their main problems are on the offensive side of the ball. They get absolutely crushed on the glass, which isn’t a surprise considering they start three guards and none of their rotation players are above 6’7. The also turn the ball over on a staggering 25% of all their possessions. Two of their six wins have come against Division-2 opponents and they lost handily to the same Montana squad that Northern Colorado beat 71-54 on December 4th. The home court has shaved about 4 points off this line and truthfully the game shouldn’t even be around 8. Northern Colorado is a bad matchup for the offensively starved Lumberjacks and don’t be surprised at a lopsided score. Play: #643 Northern Colorado –4 (Risking 2.16 units to win 2).

JR TIPS

ROCKETS at HORNETS

Chris Paul recorded his 11th career triple-double while David West finished with a career high in points when the Hornets met the Rocktes earlier this week but it still wasn't enough for New Orleans to beat the Rockets. Houston defeated New Orleans 108-100 on Tuesday as Brooks scored nine of his 27 points in the fourth quarter to help his team rally from an eight-point deficit. Brooks also scored 30 points in Thursday's 97-94 victory over Dallas finishing with 30 points and shooting 11 for 26 including a 6-of-12 effort from 3-point range. Shane Battier also had 20 points against the Hornets earlier this week. Now Brooks, Battier and the Rockets are looking to win their fourth straight over the Hornets and second in a row in New Orleans. New Orleans posted a 95-91 victory over Miami on Wednesday which is the third time during the home winning streak it has held an opponent to fewer than 93 points. Paul failed to record a double-double for the fourth time in five games after reaching double digits in both points and assists for seven consecutive games before the current stretch. He's averaging 21.4 points and 10.1 assists in his last seven games against the Rockets. The last game went over the total which is rare for these two teams when they face each other. It is very unlikely that Shane battier will score 20 points again for the Rockets in this game as the hornets are holding teams under 93 pints in their last 4 games at home with a 3 game win streak.

TAKE UNDER 194.5

Bryan Leonard

Old Dominion at George Mason

The Monarchs of Old Dominion are clearly the better team this year yet the line is very reasonable for the visitor. They have the higher RPI and the better record while playing the stronger schedule. This is a very good team that has beaten the likes of Georgetown and were very competitive when stepping up in class.
George Mason has had a lot of success lately but they are just 6-6 this year, losing to the likes of Tulane, George Washington and Radford. They have won 3 of the last 4 home meetings over ODU but the Patriots had far better personnel in those years. The line is more based on public perception that reality and we'll gladly take the better team as an underdog.

PLAY OLD DOMINION
