DAVE COKIN

LOUISVILLE AT NOTRE DAME
PLAY: LOUISVILLE +4

The best time I ever had at a college football game was on my one and only visit to South Bend, Indiana. This was back in the 1970’s, and a good friend of mine back in Rhode Island was a graduate of the school. He took annual pilgrimages back to Notre Dame for a football game, and he decided to invite me this one year.

Understand that weekends were crazy for me as I was running a good sized shop back in those days and my initial response was thanks, but no thanks. But my friend was pretty insistent, and almost demanded that I accompany him to South Bend as it would be a phenomenal experience.

I finally gave in, assigned the duties of running the book to one of my more trusted associates, and off we went to Notre Dame. One of the better decisions I’ve ever made, actually. I had no allegiance to the school, and in fact on most football weekends I was sure to be rooting against the Irish for financial reasons. But this was an awesome time. The pep rally was incredible and the atmosphere leading up to and including game day was sensational. It’s still one of the best times I’ve ever had. And as it turned out, my players ended up getting mostly hammered that weekend, which was icing on the cake.

Anyway, that story has absolutely nothing to do with this football game, just thought I’d throw it in. As for Saturday’s game between Louisville and Notre Dame, I’m looking at the underdog.

Louisville showed me something in its win at Boston College. The Cardinals were in a really bad scheduling spot, coming off the gut wrenching loss to Florida State. I was surprised at how they went into Chestnut Hill and blew up the Eagles. BC stayed in the game thanks to some staunch red zone defense in the first quarter, but this was basically a blowout, and that told me quite a bit about the character of this Louisville squad.

Notre Dame might not have that same internal engine. The Irish got kayoed at Arizona State, ending whatever playoff hopes they might have been entertaining. They then proceeded to mail it in last week against a Northwestern entry they should have handled without much difficulty. The fact it was a close game that the Wildcats won in overtime means little to me. I thought Notre Dame was dead in the water and showed no real fire.

Perhaps the Irish get back on track as they return home for this game, but I’m not counting on it. And in fact, I think Louisville is the better team regardless. I’m a big fan of backing underdogs that hold their opponents to less than 100 yards per game on the ground, and the ‘Ville qualifies on that count. I also believe the Cardinals will be able to crank up a pretty decent running game of their own here as that Notre Dame defensive front can be exploited.

But the big deal here is that Notre Dame is going to have to prove to me they’re not a broken team right now. That includes the coach, who made one of the silliest decisions I’ve ever seen last week from a math standpoint and cost his team the game in the process. In case you missed it, Brian Kelly went for two following a TD that had put Notre Dame up by 11. Huh?

I’d much rather have the team that proved its mettle off a tough loss, and the Cardinals are also well rested to boot. This line has been dropping, but getting more than a field goal still tells me that Louisville plus the points is the way to play.

Don Best Consensus

Arizona at Utah
Pick: Utah -4

Not many teams play defense at an elite level anymore at the collegiate level , but Utah is one of the nation's best 6 of their last 7 games have gone under the total because they control the pace of the game defensively Not many know that Utah has great home field advantage and the Utes play at a higher level at home The Arizona spread offense won't be running at full throttle in the predicted cooler temperatures vs. a fast & physical defense The Utes send off their Seniors in style and get the win in their last home game of the season

Marc Lawrence

Boston College at Florida State
Pick: Boston College

Edges - Eagles: 6-0 ATS with quadruple revenge-exact; 4-1 ATS last five as dogs of 14 or more points; and 7-3-1 ATS with rest; and 8-4 ATS Last Road Games. Seminoles: 1-4 ATS final conference games; series host 3-6 ATS. With BC winning the stats an average 76 YPG this season as opposed to FSU’s 60 YPG margin this season, look for the Eagles to improve to 6-0-1 ATS in revenge games versus 8-0 or greater opponents here today. We recommend a 1-unit play on Boston College.

LT Profits

Texas-San Antonio vs Western Kentucky
Pick: Texas-San Antonio +9.5

The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers can score, boasting the eight ranked offense in the country with 512.9 yards per game while averaging 41.6 points, but they are 5-5 due to terrible defense, and they may not even score their usual scoring quota vs. the good defense of the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners. UTSA is ranked 34th in the country in total defense and it is good in all facets, ranking 41st against the pass allowing 212.1 passing yards per game and 39th against the run at 141.9 rushing yards. And as potent as Western Kentucky is, it has still been rather one dimensional ranking fifth with 351.8 passing yards but 69th in rushing, which the good UTSA defense can take advantage of. Meanwhile WKU is 121st out of 128 FBS teams in total defense (508.0 yards) and scoring defense (39.8 points). Texas-San Antonio is 4-0 ATS in its last four games following a straight up win.

Kyle Hunter

Oregon State vs. Washington
Play: Washington -6

The Oregon State Beavers have been a major disappointment this year. Mike Riley's team rose to the occasion and picked up a huge upset win over Arizona State last weekend. After a great game last week, Oregon State got some bad news on Wednesday of this week though, Terron Ward is out for the season with a torn meniscus. Ward was big in last week's win, and he has been the team's best running back all year. Chris Petersen is a good coach, and the Washington Huskies have a tremendous home field advantage. Washington is 7-0 ATS in their last 7 as a favorite of 3.5 to 10 points. The Huskies are 12-5 ATS in their last 17 as a home favorite. Oregon State hasn't been good all year, and I don't trust them to put together back to back strong efforts.

Louisville vs. Notre Dame
Play: Louisville +3½

With a new QB at the helm heading into a tough environment there are lots of reasons not to like the Cardinals. However, in limited action it looks like Reggie Bonnafon has something and he will be able to make enough plays with his legs, and his arm, to keep this one nice a tight...probably even lead the Cards to victory. Take the visitors against a reeling ND squad. They are the better team and their defense is really tough.

UNLV vs. Hawaii
Play:UNLV +10½

Hawaii comes off a 13-0 win vs San Jose State last time out, but the final score does not really relate to the play on the field, as they were outgained 462-240 count . Meanwhile, UNLV despite of not being considered a reliable traveling team, have shown alot of intensity this season, along with a never say die attitude. I know Rebels QB Blake Decker is a game time decision, but Im betting the fresh air in paradise have him ready for action. It must also be noted that Bobby Hauck is fighting for his coaching life, and really needs a win here and a top tier effort. There were also adjustment made in scheduling and treating this game like a regular conference matchup , rather than a vacation, so their no reason for the players to be asleep at the proverbial wheel when this contest kicks off. Rainbow Warriors are 1-6-1 ATS in their last 8 games following a S.U. win.Underdog is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings.

Wisconsin vs. Iowa
Play:Wisconsin -10

Wisconsin has one of the most dynamic players in college football in Melvin Gordon. Off of his record breaking performance he is now looking to cement himself as the favorite for the Heisman Trophy. Wisconsin defense will step up in this one and make enough plays for Wisconsin to win by double digits.

Wunderdog

Kansas @ Oklahoma
Pick: Oklahoma -25

Kansas comes into this game looking like an improved team, but are they? They took care of an equally weak Iowa State team two weeks ago 34-14 at home, and followed with a 4-point loss to top four candidate TCU, also at home. They caught TCU napping after six straight difficult and physical games. The difference here for Kansas is that this one is on the road. Their last road encounter was a 60-14 pasting at Baylor. The Sooners have a 7-3 record on the season, and have shown both the desire and ability to put away bad teams this season. Their last encounter with one was on the road at Iowa State resulting in a 59-14 blowout win. Kansas has displayed a lack of competitiveness on the road, which has left them at 7-21-1 ATS in their last 29. The Sooners take the field at 17-7 ATS at home in their last 24 vs. a team with a losing road record. Lay the bundle and play on Oklahoma.

Nathan Cleverly (-115) over Tony Bellew

This is a cruiserweight bout over in England. These two fighters did battle five years ago, and Nathan Cleverly took the victory by decision. Saturday night I see another Cleverly victory. Cleverly has rebounded well since his loss to Sergey Kovalev, earning TKO's his last two fights. Tony Bellew has also come into this fight with back-to-back wins, but Saturday night I see him struggling against the power of Cleverly during the later rounds. It wouldn't shock me to see this fight go the distance, and if it does Cleverly’s power will pull the judges his way again. If any book pulls out total round props I would also look at this fight going the distance or betting the ‘over’ on the rounds prop.If you go over to Bovada- Click Here – you can get a free $250 free bet to use on this boxing winner or on any of my big plays this week. Maryland (+5) over Michigan

Almost everyone who follows college football closely knows how tough of a year it’s been for the Michigan Wolverines. The Wolverines were expected to take a big step forward this season under 4th-year head coach Brady Hoke, but instead they’ve went two giant steps backwards. This line looks to be inflated due to the betting markets belief that this is a big game for the Wolverines because they are fighting for a post-season bowl bid. I’m not buying into any of that thinking as going to a no-name type of bowl game is almost an embarrassment for a football program like Michigan. Most of these players came to this school with dreams of one day playing in championship-type contests not some lesser bowl game. Even if the Wolverines players wanted to badly win this game, there’s been no evidence all year that they can beat a decent team like a Maryland by this type of margin. Maryland has played arguably the toughest schedule in the Big Ten thus far as they are the only Big Ten team to have faced all three of the conference big boys currently (Wisconsin, Ohio State and Michigan State). The Terrapins have gone 3-0 in their other conference games overall, including hammering a Indiana team when the Hoosiers had their starting quarterback and were a formidable foe. Maryland also has knocked off Penn State and Iowa thus far, and overall their body of work looks much better than Michigan’s. Michigan does have their eyes on one big game still to be played this year, and that’s next week battle against their top rival Ohio State. Getting five points or so is a nice bonus here for a team that has been the better of these two teams this season. Take Maryland plus the points.

Wake Forest +15

Yes, Wake Forest is horrible. But Virginia Tech isn't any good anymore either. Frank Beamer has really slipped in recent years. The Hokies have covered only 33 percent of the time during the past four years.

Wake Forest has incentive as this is the final home game for 16 of its seniors. Virginia Tech doesn't have a strong offense or a good quarterback to lay this big road number, especially after losing leading rusher, Marshawn Williams, to a torn ACL. The Hokies rank 90th in the nation in scoring and 92nd in total yards. They have gained fewer than 300 yards during three of their last four games.

The Hokies are off a huge 17-16 victory against No. 19 Duke last week. It's going to be hard for them to take Wake Forest that serious. The Hokies do not have a good track record in these type of instances going 2-10-1 ATS versus opponents with a losing record. They also have failed to cover in 12 of their last 17 road games.

Wake Forest freshman quarterback John Wolford has been decent for the Demon Deacons throwing for 1,626 yards and nine TD's despite not having many weapons. So Wake Forest isn't barren at the most important spot.
