The Mavs have plenty of offense but they also possess the most penetrable defense in the NBA and that makes them a huge risk spotting points. The Mavs are capable of big wins but they are also guilty of disturbing losses like a recent 22-point loss against the depleted Bulls. In case you haven't notice, new-look Toronto is playing real well with a winning road record. The Raptors are 7-1 ATS in their last eight road games, on a 5-0 ATS run overall. The much-improved Toronto Raptors look to extend a season-high win streak to six games here. The Raptors are 10-3 since the departure of second-leading scorer Rudy Gay in a seven-player deal with Sacramento. Gay could score, but was a bad shooter and took way too many shots. They are much better without him on offense, and are a terrific defensive team, sixth in the NBA in points allowed. Toronto boasts wins over Indiana and Oklahoma City in its last seven games, and is now the No. 4 seed in the East. They have plenty to prove, while Miami has nothing to prove. The Heat is 2-6 ATS in their last eight home games and had to play yesterday, while Toronto has one day of rest. Arkansas State lost to a 3-8 Memphis squad and also suffered defeats to Western Kentucky and UL-Lafayette. The Arkansas State defense yielded 33 to Georgia State and 34 to Western Kentucky in their last two games. Ball State’s defense improved dramatically down the stretch and forced 30 turnovers, leading the country in recovered fumbles with 18. They held five of their last six opponents to 24 points or less. That’s significant since QB Keith Wenning is a 4-year starter that led Ball state to a 40.1 point-per game average this year. Ball State had a magical season going 10-2 straight-up, 8-4 ATS. Arkansas State was only 2-4 straight-up away averaging 20.8 points per game. Ball State was rested three times this year and proceeded to win their next game off rest by scores of 51-28, 44-24, and 54-14. Arkansas State qualifies in a nasty 15-4 ATS go-against bowl system. Team off a loss and returning to the same bowl they won last year are 4-15 ATS. Arkansas State beat Kent last year in the GoDaddy.com Bowl 17-13. This is the 3rd straight year the Red Wolves are in Mobile for this game. Ball State looks to atone for a 38-17 oloss to UCF in last year’s Beef ‘O’ Brady Bowl.

We are taking a hard look at the Villanova-Providence game tonight on the Main Line in Philly. Providence is actually the last team to win at the Pavilion and the Wildcats want to remain unbeaten at home this season. They took their first step towards a Big East title the other night with their win at Butler and now Ed Cooley's Providence friars come to town. Providence is 92-66 OVER after a game where they failed to cover the spread since 1997 and Villanova is 22-11 OVER against conference opponents over the last 3 seasons. If you look at the stats from both of these teams, both of them shoot FT well and Villanova is scoring over 80 ppg. Providence is coming off a tough double-OT loss to Seton Hall and we expect them to come back tonight with a spirited effort, led by all-conference Bryce Cotton. We're not sure Providence can get the win tonight, but we hink they make it interesting and this number is way too low. This game is going OVER the posted total.

Despite visiting Missouri State (11-2) having a vastly superior overall record as opposed to Loyola-Chicago (5-8) the ODDSMAKERS have made a loud statement by pricing this contest in a near pick-em spot. The main reason is that today is a “watershed” HOME game for the Ramblers who are hosting their first-ever tilt as a member of the Missouri Valley Conference. Since they have never been in this league today marks the first clash between the Ramblers and Tigers since way back in 1964 when a group by the name of the Beatles invaded America. Arguably the Ramblers are catching them at the perfect time as in their league opener back on Thursday Missouri State expended much energy battling back from a 16-point deficit before finally winning in an OVERTIME session. Even with a veteran roster Missouri State has had little “turn around” time for this contest and are forced to travel versus a Loyola-Chicago contingent that is 4-1 in front of the HOME fans. Loyola’s lone home setback was a tilt where they actually held a double-digit halftime edge so the mere location of today’s game is critical.
