You’re gonna hate me for doing this but I simply can’t pass up a ‘gimmie’ from the idiot linemaker. Folks, he’s got New York laying just -126 when they should be -176! The Yankees have won 6 straight games by averaging 7.8 RPG while the Jays have won just ONCE in their last 6 tries. Throw out the ridiculous 18 runs Toronto scored in that lone win over Texas and the Canadian Bluebirds have scored just 2.6 RPG in their last 5 outings. Why can’t they all be this EASY? I’m putting September’s social security check on the Bronx Bombers here – so your play is on Toronto.

The BG Falcons return senior QB Tyler Sheehan (20 TDs, 9 picks in 2008). The passing game should be above average with senior WR Freddie Barnes (364 yards), who battled injuries, but in 2007 he had 962 yards, 9 TDs. Senior WR Chris Wright (249 yards) also returns. BG upset Pitt in the 2008 opener, 27-17, and takes on a ! balanced Troy offense. This looks like a close game all the way. Play Bowling Green.

New York Yankees -130 over Toronto Blue Jays
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
The Yankees are rolling towards another American League East title, and it’s only a matter of time before they wrap up another playoff berth. Tonight they’ll begin a 4 game set in Toronto against the Jays, who are playing out the string.

Chad Gaudin (1-0, 3.21) has done a solid job in his brief time in pinstripes. New York probably will use him in long relief in the postseason, but giving him a few spot starts in September can only be beneficial to his fitness. He’s 1-0 with a 3.21 ERA as a Yankee, over 5 appearances.

Rookie Ricky Romero (11-6, 3.95) is probably the favorite for AL rookie of the year, but has somewhat hit the skids of late. He’s still been very impressive, and looks like a key member of the Jays future. Romero is 1-2 with a 5.67 ERA in his last 5 starts.

NC State -4.5

Opening night in College Football and we’ve got a good one to start it off. Two teams looking for respectability in their conferences get to show off their skills on national TV.

NC State came on strong in the second half of the season last year and look to move forward in 2009. QB Russell Wilson is a star in the making. The Sophomore was the sole reason for the Pack’s revival, and his injury in the Papajohns.com bowl was the Wolfpack’s downfall in that game. NC State will go as far as Wilson can take them this season.

South Carolina has yet to reach the heights that many expected when Steve Spurrier took over 5 years ago. They’ve been a solid program, no question, but not the offensive juggernaut squads he built at Florida. Sophomore Stephen Garcia could be the most talented QB Spurrier has had at South Carolina and needs to put his off the field issues behind him if he is to take that next step. Take NC State tonight at home to take care of business.

Michael Cannon

NY Yankees -130 at TORONTO

Take the Yankees for the road win over the Blue Jays.

New York is rolling, having won six straight, while Toronto is just trying to get the season over with.

The Yankees have outscored the opposition 47-14 during their six-game winning streak which will make it easier on starter Chad Gaudin.

Gaudin is making a spot start for the injured Sergio Mitre but that shouldn’t make a difference in the outcome. Gaudin has a live arm and is familiar with the Blue Jays lineup. The right-hander is 1-0 with a 3.57 ERA in three starts and nine relief appearances against Toronto.

The Blue Jays will counter with Ricky Romero, who is looking to move into a tie for the league lead in wins by a rookie.

But the left-hander is just 1-2 with a 5.67 ERA in his last five starts.

Take the Yankees for the road win.

Chris Jordan

Chicago at CHICAGO

Take the home team in this write-in game, as the Cubs will take advantage of this worn out White Sox team in one last Windy City rivalry battle.

The White Sox pulled yesterday’s matinee out of you know where, and after an exasperating road trip that saw them play 11 straight road games in as many days and 14 overall, what do they get to do before ending their road trip? One more game “on the road,” as they play on the North Side in a write-in game at Wrigley Field.

No breaks for the South Siders, who have fallen from grace in the American League Central, and will be worn out after suffering eight losses in their last 10 games.

The Pale Hose are mired in additional losing streaks of 0-4 as an underdog, 1-7 on natural grass, 7-21 on the highway and 4-17 as a road pup.

The Cubbies, meanwhile, come in on winning streaks of 21-8 when Rich Dempster as a home favorite, 23-9 at Wrigley Field, 4-0 in Interleague play at home and 17-7 against losing teams.

Lay the run line today with the Cubbies.

3♦ CUBS RUN LINE -1.5

Drew Gordon

Oregon at BOISE STATE -3

Now on a 52-37 roll with the plays I'm giving away, including the Rays over the Red Sox 8-5 Wednesday! For today's complimentary play, we're looking at the Oregon/Boise State match up.

There's a lot of hype coming out of Boise this season, one year removed from going unbeaten, but making little noise in the rankings. Broncos know full well their season could begin and end with this match up, and they couldn't have asked for a better opponent or venue. It's no secret the Broncos are excellent on the Smurf Turf, having won 49 straight regular season home games (and going 40-17-2 ATS over their L59 in Boise), and you can add another winner here tonight and here's why:

First and foremost, this is more an anti-Ducks play than anything else, as the fact Oregon returns only 9 starters and will be breaking in a new head coach in Chip Kelly is a BIG red flag if you ask me. Also, I'm hardly impressed with this Oregon defense, which got torched by then freshmen Kellen Moore (386 yards 3 TDs and 1 pick), while allowing the Broncos to convert 39% of their 3rd downs - all on their home field no less!

Herein lies the problem for Oregon's defense, as you expect Kellen Moore to be more comfortable in this offense in his second year, which is bad news for Ducks-backers. More importantly, the difference here lies with defense, as the Broncos may not have an "elite" stop unit, but they're definately a step above the Ducks. In last season's match up at Autzen Stadium, the Broncos D bent, but didn't break, allowing the Ducks to convert just 21% of their 3rd downs. I know the Ducks are a popular revenge play here, but not on the Smurf Turf, and not when this game means everything to the Boise State program.

Finally, speaking of the importance of this game, there's no doubt the feeling around Boise is that this is the biggest home game in school history. The rest of the Broncos scheduale is relatively ho-hum, so if the Broncos are going to impress the nation, it's going to have to come tonight. In the end, this game will be competitive, but I expect the Broncos to make the necessary stops on defense to get the "W," while rewarding their backers with the cash!

Take Boise State over Oregon in this college football match up.

I can't pass up the Yankees at this great of a price when they are playing this well against a team well below .500. The Yankees are 9-2 in the last 11 meetings in this matchup and 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in Toronto. Plus, they are an impressive 21-5 in their last 26 vs. the American League East and 13-3 in their last 16 road games. The Blue Jays are 0-6 in Romero's last 6 starts vs. the American League East and 14-37 in their last 51 vs. the division. Bet New York.

Atlanta Braves vs. Florida Marlins
Play: Atlanta Braves

This is a great match up of young stud pitchers going for their 10 win of the year as Tommy Hanson of Atlanta is 9-3 with a 3.15 ERA and Rocky Nolasco is 9-8 with an ERA of 5.30. Look for the Braves who won the first two games of this series, but lost last night to earn the series win with another win over Florida Thursday night behind Hanson. Play Atlanta

Tonight's free play winner is on the MIAMI/NEW ORLEANS NFL exhibition game to go UNDER the total. One thing I've learned about the final week of pre-season games is that starters rarely play, and if they do, it's not for more than a series or two. So if you're worried about Drew Brees and company marching up and down the field on teams as they have much of this pre-season, don't be. I doubt you see Brees, Thomas, Bush, Colston or Shockey tonight. It's going to be the final opportunity for these second and third and fourth teamers to make a statement in order to make the team's final 53-man roster next week. It reminds me a lot of pre-season Week 1... when everyone looks rusty, everyone is getting back into football shape, and the defense is ahead of the offense. I think tonight's number is a tad inflated because it's New Orleans, but let's not forget something... the Saints might be scoring a lot of points, but they're also playing great defense this pre-season, allowing less than 10 PPG through three. Miami is also playing good defense this pre-season, allowing just over 10 PPG. Easy play on the UNDER as neither team is excited to be here and is more than ready to get the regular season underway.
