Baltimore had solid success in last weekend's road series in the Bronx, taking two of three in convincing fashion. The problem, however, is that Baltimore is at home for this series and they actually play the Yankees much better, historically, in New York.

Two days ago the Yanks lost sole possession of first place in the East after losing to Tampa combined with a Baltimore win over Toronto. However, there were a few members of the team that weren't happy with the effort being put forth and conducted a pre-game meeting that appears to have done the trick... at least for one game.

New York has lost 10 of their last 15, but somehow managed to still keep the lead despite their terrible play. Injuries and complacency have been their two biggest enemies. Injuries they can't really stop... complacency they can.

The Yankees have won 21 of 29 in Baltimore since last losing a series of at least two games there April 6-9, 2009. Yankees SS and captain Derek Jeter is batting .341 in his last 20 games played at Camden Yards.

Baltimore pitcher Jason Hammel (8-6, 3.54) makes his first start since missing almost two months with a knee injury. He's 0-1 with a 4.91 ERA in two starts vs. the Yankees this season and also posted a 7.78 ERA while losing his last four starts since beating Washington back on June 22.

Free play of the day is on the Yankees at even money to beat Baltimore.

2♦ N.Y. YANKEES

Pittsburgh/ Cincinnati Under 49: Pittsburgh played well offensively last week, but their defense struggled against an FCS foe and you get bet that they will look to play much better on that side of the ball. They should do better vs a Cincinnati team that brings back just 3 starters on offense. The Bearcats are replacing their quarterback, top running back and 3 starters along the line and it will take a few games for this unit to gel. The strength of the Cincinnati team will be their defense as they bring back 7 starters from a group that allowed just 20.3 ppg last year. While Pittsburgh's offense played well in their opening loss, they were still just 6-12 on 3rd downs vs an FCS opponent and they should struggle in that department even more in this one. Look for both defenses to dominate this game as it is played in the 30's and not the 40's.
