ALABAMA @ OLE MISS | 10/10 | 6:00 PM EDT
It might seem like the personality conflict between Nick Saban and Lane Kiffin would suggest that Alabama will run the score up on Ole Miss. Nope. The opposite will happen. Saban knows how brilliant Kiffin is and all of the weapons he has to work with. Saban is going to get a lead and then drain the clock. It's the safe bet. Ole Miss' offense is potent enough to get a touchdown or two and, at the very least, get a backdoor cover.

(314) VIRGINIA -9.5

Last week N. Carolina St went to Pittsburgh and beat the Top 25 Panthers 30-29. N. Carolina St caught Pitt coming off a big Win over Louisville which moved the Panthers into the Top 25. Pitt was flat and N.C. St was able to move the football against the usually stout Pitt defense putting up 30 points. This week they will face another good defense in Virginia. The difference this week is that Virginia won’t look past N.C. St as Virginia is coming off a loss. The N.C. St. Defense is bad as Wake Forest put 42 points and Virginia Tech put up 45 points. Pitt scored 29 points but should have been much more. Pitt threw for 411 yards and had over 500 total yards of offense. That’s a lot as Pitt is not an offensive dynamo. Note that this will be N.C St. 3rd straight road game and they have Clemson on deck next week. Coming off a big win and Clemson on deck this is a horrible spot for N.C St. Virginia is a balanced team running the ball 37 times a game and throwing it 45 times. The Virginia running game will wear down N.C St and set up big plays off of play-action. That strong running game will also be huge when Virginia is killing the clock with the lead. VIRGINIA 38-20. TAKE VIRGINIA as my 4% ACC GAME OF THE WEEK.

TEXAS +2.5
TEXAS @ OKLAHOMA | 10/10 | 12:00 PM EDT
The Sooners have won four of the past six in this rivalry, using their edge in firepower to fend off a spirited effort from the Longhorns. But after Texas basically sleep walked through a disastrous loss to TCU last week, another such performance will give coach Tom Herman's growing list of detractors even more fuel. This is a down year for Oklahoma by its recent standards, with a freshman QB going up against one of most experienced signal-callers in the country. Texas has the talent edge and has historically been reliable in these desperation spots.

Believe me, I know how difficult it is to trust either one of these teams right now. When I look at them, though, I see Texas as the team with the higher floor this week, while Oklahoma has the higher ceiling as the year goes on. So, right now, I want to be on the team with the senior QB in Sam Ehlinger. The QB who plays for the coach who has covered three of four meetings with Oklahoma.

This spread absolutely baffles me. Duke is winless and last in the nation in turnovers, giving the ball away an astonishing 15 times already. Syracuse isn't all that great but comes off a pretty dominant win over Georgia Tech in which the Orange forced five turnovers. In addition, it's likely that SU preseason All-American safety Andre Cisco returns from injury Saturday. I fully expect Syracuse to win outright but won't turn down the points.

Both of these teams run the ball, play defense and are stout on both lines of scrimmage. Plus, they'll square off in Athens under what should be less-than-ideal conditions due to Hurricane Delta. Both coaches will protect their quarterbacks, lean on their running games and try to get into the fourth quarter with a chance at the win in the most conservative way possible.

View Analysis

8.1 yards per play...best in the nation
3.7 yards per play allowed....best in the nation
They have the nation's best completion % and nation's top yards per pass attempt at 13.2
UTSA is 3-1 and off a 21-13 "close" loss as a 20+ point dog to UAB...while BYU played on Friday night up against the NBA finals and too late for most viewers...but this number is right in line...
-1 against Navy won by 52

-24 against La Tech won by 31
Progressing right on target but against the worst.team.thus far...and to top it off they have the rest advantage AND haven't left Provo since 9/7..while the Roadrunners were in Birmingham and NOW travel to altitude to deal with Wilson and that defense....and no clue which is the more daunting task!

NC STATE +240
NC STATE @ VIRGINIA | 10/10 | 12:00 PM EDT
YESTERDAY 3:32 PM
I'm taking a shot here. Ever since putting Devin Leary at QB again this Wolfpack offense has been a lot more explosive. Now, the Wolfpack defense has plenty of problems itself, but NC State is more than capable of winning this game against the Cavaliers. This price is too good for me to pass up.

DUKE @ SYRACUSE | 10/10 | 12:30 PM EDT
I don't know why they keep doing this, but I'm going to keep taking advantage of it while they do. Syracuse is a different team at home. It's much better in the dome. A few weeks ago a bad Georgia Tech team was favored in Syracuse and lost by 17. Now, an 0-4 Duke team is favored? Why? The Cuse probably wins outright, but I'll play it safe and grab the two points.

Georgia has steamrolled the Vols lately, but this is the best Tennessee team Jeremy Pruitt has had. I expect this game to be a lower-scoring, defensive affair, but the total is a little too low for me to feel comfortable going that direction. Instead I'll take the points with the Vols.

Honestly, I don't even feel like I need to explain this one, do I? Like, when you saw Boston College and Pitt were playing this weekend, wasn't your initial reaction along the lines of "first team to 10 wins?" I know mine was. These are two offenses that haven't done much of anything in 2020, but two defenses that have shown to be salty. We've got a rock fight on our hands.

Gus Malzahn has enjoyed beating up on his home state school since taking over at Auburn, and there's a chance that happens again, but I'm wary of taking the Tigers here. The reason is that their offensive line has been awful, and this offense has no explosive plays to its name in 2020. So it's hard to trust it as a favorite here. That said, I'm not all that enthusiastic about Arkansas' offense through two games, either. So Under is the play.

We don't have tanking in college football, but the sense I get from South Florida so far this season is that Jeff Scott is "redshirting" his first season in Tampa. We've seen him try a number of combinations at different positions, including QB, trying to find out what he has. I don't know how that approach will work in the long run, nor do I care. All I know is that I don't want to trust that approach as a favorite.

I don't know how effective the zig-zag theory of betting is overall, but it certainly seems to fit with Mike Leach teams. Not expected to win? Take Leach's team. Coming off a big win? Fade em. Well, after losing to Arkansas last week, Mississippi State's now a dog against an 0-2 Kentucky team that can't throw the football. It might come as a surprise considering that he usually has the best team in these situations, but Dabo Swinney tends to get conservative in big games like this one. Particularly during the regular season. In the CFP Era, Clemson has played 14 games on a campus (not at a neutral site) against ranked teams, and the Under is 9-5 in those games. Swinney only tries to do whatever he has to do to get his team a win. This Saturday that focus will be on slowing the Miami offense down.

Kyle Marley

Here are Marley's picks for UFC Fight Night: Moraes vs. Sandhagen (odds from William Hill US).

Cory Sandhagen (-145) vs. Marlon Moraes (+125): Sandhagen by decision

I have been saying Sandhagen will be a UFC champion one day and I am sticking to it. I think he is a top-three contender in this division and I do not think Moraes makes that cut. Sandhagen is better everywhere other than power. Moraes is fast and solid everywhere, but he is going to want to keep this on the feet and I think Sandhagen is better and will be throwing more volume. Sandhagen hasn't had a five-round fight yet so that would be my biggest concern. But if he is going to be the champ, cardio can't be an issue, so I think he wins a decision.

Edson Barboza (-250) vs. Makwan Amirkhani (+210): Barboza via TKO

This will be purely a striker versus grappler matchup. Amirkhani has no shot to beat Edson on the feet other than a lucky knockout, so he will be looking for takedowns early and often. If he can get them, maybe he can lock up a submission or win two of the rounds with top control. Barboza is hard to take and he will work back to his feet and this will fatigue Amirkhani. Amirkhani will have some success with takedowns, but I don't know that he has the cardio for as much wrestling as he will need, so I will take Barboza by late knockout.

Ben Rothwell (-170) vs. Marcin Tybura (+150): Tybura by decision

This is going to be a slower-paced fight that will likely go the distance. This will probably look closer to a sparring match than it will Fight of the Night, but either guy could land that big punch to get a knockout. I think this is going to be a back-and-forth striking match that goes the distance and really could go either way. There is no way I would lay the juice on Rothwell, and Tybura is the pick for that reason.

Dric Dricus Du Plessis (-145) vs. Markus Perez (+125): Perez inside the distance

Plessis is making his UFC debut and he has never been to a decision. All his wins are by either knockout, guillotine choke or rear-naked choke. Based on the skills I saw, those are his only paths to victory Saturday as well. He does have power, so I think the knockout is his better shot because Perez has some grappling chops himself. I hate the volume from Perez, but he should be the all-around better fighter and he has never been knocked or choked out. I have to lean with him as the pick and I really don't see why he is the underdog.

Tom Aspinall (-440) vs. Alan Baudot (+360): Aspinall by TKO

Baudot is making his UFC debut on short notice. His record is 8-1 which looks OK, but he was actually finished in two of his last three fights (one was overturned to a disqualification victory), so I'm not sure why he even got the call-up. I am not sure why his last fight was overturned, but don't let that 8-1 fool you -- he isn't UFC-ready. Aspinall should be able to dominate and I expect a knockout.

Youssef Zalal (-180) vs. Ilia Topuria (+160): Zalal by decision

Topuria is making his UFC debut on short notice with an undefeated 8-0 record, with seven of those wins coming by submission and the other a knockout. He has a solid jab and overhand right, but Zalal is the better striker and he should cruise on the feet. Topuria could have grappling success and if he can get takedowns, he is live for a submission. He could win a decision if he can win two rounds with his grappling as well, but on short notice it might be hard to have that game plan.

Tom Breese (-260) vs. K.B. Bhullar (+220): Breese by decision

Bhullar is making his UFC debut with a perfect 8-0 record. This is by far his toughest fight to date and, if Breese makes it to the cage with his anxiety issues, I think he wins this fight. He should be better and more dangerous everywhere and he can finish on the feet or the ground. He probably wants to keep this fight on the feet and, if he does, he should cruise to a decision win if he can't get a knockout.

Rodrigo Nascimento (-280) vs. Chris Daukaus (+240): Nascimento by submission

Nascimento is going to have the edge on the ground and, if he can get it there, he can probably keep it there long enough to win the round or just get a finish. Daukaus looked much improved on the feet in his UFC debut, so much so that I give him the advantage there. Nascimento should be the favorite, but his line being almost 3-1 is too high.

Impa Kasanganay (-250) vs. Joaquin Buckley (+210): Kasanganay by TKO

This seems a bit early for Buckley to be fighting after a TKO loss where he was dropped two times just two months ago. Kasanganay is the better fighter everywhere and he has power that can test that chin. He also has the wrestling edge, so the only way I see Kasanganay losing is if Buckley lands a clean power shot.

Tony Kelley (-210) vs. Ali Alqaisi (+180): Kelley by decision

Kelley is going to be the better all-around talent and he can win this fight anywhere. On the feet, I don't think this is going to be close and Kelley should win clearly. The takedown defense is the worry for Kelley and, if he loses, it will probably be because he spent too much time on his back. Alqaisi doesn't look good enough to finish him, but maybe he can squeak out two rounds with wrestling. I don't see it happening, and I think Kelley cruises.

Omar Morales (-145) vs. Giga Chikadze (+125): Morales by decision

Morales should look to get this fight to the ground, but it is hard to trust that he will. If we knew his game plan would be to work in takedowns, then I would favor him over 2-1 in this spot. Chikadze is a kickboxer and he is only going to look to strike at range. If he can make Morales play the outside game, Chikadze wins at range. Morales can win this fight on the feet and he just needs to make this more of a brawl. He is the pick, but it will be much easier if he gets takedowns. He can get a submission if he does.

Tracy Cortez (-250) vs. Stephanie Egger (+210): Cortez by decision

Egger is stepping in on short notice to make her UFC debut. This is a tough spot for her and I don't see any advantages for her. She looks to be mostly a grappler, but Cortez is the better wrestler-grappler so it's hard seeing her have any success there. Maybe we see some crazy armbar from guard by Egger, but this is a matchup Cortez should be able to dominate.

Tagir Ulanbekov (-360) vs. Bruno Silva (+300): Ulanbekov by decision

Ulanbekov is making his UFC debut and he looks like a legit prospect. He is a Sambo fighter with a grappling-heavy style. He is good at getting guys to the mat and keeping them there. He can get submissions or ground-and-pound finishes, and he should be able to land takedowns. If this fight stays standing it will be pretty boring and much closer, but Ulanbekov is the pick.

Marshall is playing some of the best ball out of any Group of Five team in the nation. QB Grant Wells continues to get better every week, and the defense, led by LB Tavante Beckett, does a great job of getting off the field and turning the ball over. If Western Kentucky shows the ability to matchup in coverage, Marshall has no problem in turning around and handing the ball off to talented tailback Brenden Knox.

This number should be going up, not down. Texas A&M barely escaped Vanderbilt in its opener and got its doors blown off by Alabama last week. The Gators may not be Alabama, but they're close. This line is way too low, especially considering much of the Aggies' homefield advantage has been thwarted by the limit on attendance.

Play: Pittsburgh -6.0 (-110)

5% (311) PITT -6
Pitt is coming off a loss last week which is so typical of this team under Pat Narduzzi as they always seem to lay an egg after a big win. Two weeks ago Pitt beat Louisville after Louisville just went head to head with Miami-Fl the week before. Louisville was suppose to be one of the improved teams this year in the ACC and Pitt took care of them with that stout defense. But after that win they came up flat against NC St. last week. Pitt will have fire in their eyes this week as they want to rebound off that loss and have revenge for last year when they lost at home as a 7.5 point favorite. Two things you should know about that game from last year. First off Pitt was as flat as a pancake as the week before Pitt lost to Virginia Tech 28-0. Pitt was 7-3 for the year and a win against Virginia Tech would of had them at 8-3 and in line to play Clemson in the ACC Championship Game but that loss ended that hope. Having 7 wins made Pitt Bowl eligible already so when they played Boston College in the season finale Pitt had nothing to play for and it showed. Pitt had 4 TO’s in that game and lost 26-19. Even giving the ball away 4 times they still put up 400 yards of offense and only lost by 7 points. When you are -4 TO’s you are supposed to lose by more than 7 points. Pitt is even better this year than they were last year and this defense is legit. You can’t run on Pitt as teams are averaging just 2 yards per attempt running the Football. This will make Boston College one dimensional which will let Pitt pin their ears back and bring pressure when Boston College is put in bad down and distance situations. It’s Payback time for Pitt and they get the job done. PITT 27-14. TAKE PITT as my 5% CFB REVENGE GAME OF THE MONTH.

Navy will be a popular side this week and everyone is going to have the same reasons for taking Navy...They will say this is Navy’s 4th game while Temple hasn’t played a game yet. They will say it’s hard to prepare for the Navy Option. That’s great filler but it’s not sound handicapping. Let’s start with it’s hard to prepare for the Navy Option. Yes it is when you don’t see it on a regular basis and you have one week to prepare for it in the middle of a season. Temple and Navy are in the same conference so Temple faces them every year. And for it being the first game of the year well that’s true but it also means that Temple has had extra time to prepare for the Option since their other games were cancelled. Then there is the eye test have you actually watched Navy play? Their defense is horrible and their Coach has made excuses for both of their bad losses. After the BYU blowout loss he blamed himself by saying his team wasn’t properly prepared as he wasn’t having them practice in pads and tackling leading up to that game. But when Air Force drilled them last week The Navy coach was complaining that Air Force had extra time to prepare as that was Air Force’s first game. Guess what that’s the same situation this week. Navy can’t stop the run and all the excuses by the HC is deflecting the hard truth and that’s Navy isn’t a good football team this year. Temple has won the L3 meetings and in those 3 games held this option attack to 17, 26 and 10 points. TEMPLE 31-17. TAKE TEMPLE as my 4% AAC GAME OF THE WEEK.

Rotation #317
Miami +15 over Clemson

The one cool thing about College Football this year is the gap narrows with less fans and home field advantage.I just don’t think there are many spots that you should play big favorites.Miami has been red hot with D’Eriq King at QB.There is nothing worse than a duel threat QB that can pick up a first down with his arm or feet.Clemson is still a powerhouse, but this year none of them are elite.* There was a lot of turnover last year in talent.Miami has all the offensive pieces and the offensive line able to match Clemson on the scoreboard.* I think this spread is very generous.* Take Miami.

TENNESSEE @ GEORGIA | 10/10 | 3:30 PM EDT
YESTERDAY 6:05 PM
It looks like the Georgia defense is playing at an extremely high level. Up front along the offensive line, they Bulldogs have bullied opponents. This has allowed their run game to flourish and their QB Stetson Bennett IV to have success, keeping the offense on pace. Tennessee has won its games the old-school way: Run game and defense. However, if the Vols run into trouble against Georgia in the run game, and have to throw it more than they want, it could be a problem.

QB Collin Hill has looked really good as the South Carolina starting quarterback, since transferring in from Colorado State. The Gamecocks have good balance on offense and a solid defense. Vanderbilt is struggling on offense, and its inability to finish drives has really been a crutch. I don't see the Commodores having any sustainable success against South Carolina.

Florida State had to work hard last week in order to beat a Jacksonville State team. The Seminoles still don't look quite right on offense, and it really hinders a defense that has played well throughout the year. In this matchup, they face arguably the best offensive line they've seen, and a defense that's able to matchup with them on the perimeter.

Clemson has one of the more complete teams in the country. Miami has a really good foundation laid themselves with its defense and ability to run the football. The major X-factor in this game is Hurricanes QB D'Eriq King. His ability in the run game could really put the Clemson defense in a bind. This is a great matchup at this juncture of the season, and one in which could go down to the wire.

UT-SAN ANTONIO @ BYU | 10/10 | 3:30 PM EDT
YESTERDAY 5:54 PM
If we're just talking about the proverbial eye test, BYU is a Top 5 team in the country. The Cougars' offensive line does a great job of owning the line of scrimmage, and defensively, they have legit studs up front that are able to get pressure with just a three-man rush. QB Zach Wilson has made himself into a Heisman candidate, and we've seen BYU score in the 30s with ease. Normally, teams that score like that don't have a good defense. That's not the case with the Cougars.

334 Texas A&M / 333 Florida Over 57.0 Pinnacle

triple-dime bet

Analysis:

FLORIDA GATORS @ TEXAS A&M AGGIES

3*** BEST BET on: OVER THE TOTAL
Saturday, Oct. 9th / 12:00pm ET / 9:00pm PT / #333-334
*Optimum OU line: 57 or less points

For the 2nd week in a row, we’re Going HIGH in a Texas A&M Aggie football game in the SEC Conference. Last week, we were on OVER 53 in their game versus Alabama. And the OU outcome was never in doubt. Bama was up 14-7 after one quarter… and the score at the half was already 35-14! We officially cashed the WIN with Crimson Tide TD at the 7:24 mark of the THIRD quarter. From then on in, it was ALL gravy. Final score was 52 to 24… as with teams accounted for 994 total offensive yards. It’s been tough for us this week finding that PERFECT game for us to cash an ‘OVER’ in. That’s because Mother Nature could indeed play a very big role in many southern Colleges Football games. The impact of Hurricane Delta this weekend could affect numerous games. In fact, before the Hurricane forecast, we were looking for potential ‘OVER’ winners in the following games: Coastal Carolina @ La-Lafayette… South Carolina @ Vanderbilt… Tennessee @ Georgia… Arkansas @ Auburn… La-Monroe @ Liberty… and Alabama @ Mississippi. The† Hurricane could definitely play a role in ALL SIX of these games. Its tough enough to find that PERFECT ‘Over’ in ideal weather conditions. Who you factor in the potential impact of a major hurricane, our job just got lot tougher…

But we believe we found the ONE game to stick our necks out on. And that’s the Florida Gators traveling west and taking on the Texas A&M Aggies. The weather report for College Station looks pretty good to us. Perfect football temperatures in the high 70’s and low 80’s… Winds out of the West at LESS than 10 miles per hour… and only a 9% chance of rain for the game…

When it comes to the 2020 Gators, they are currently doing it the old-fashioned way. In the last 4-5 seasons, Florida was known as a SEC team with a GREAT defense and a pretty ‘vanilla’ offense. UNDERS came in a t very high percentage. But remember the Fun ’N’ Gun days under Steve Spurrier? Those were the days when the Gators were chucking the ball all over the yard, And thats what we are now seeing in the 2020 season. Florida ranks #5 in the entire country in passing efficiency, and their 10 passing TD’s are the most for any team that has played least two games. If quarterback KYLE TRASK isn’t a Heisman Trophy candidate, then tight end KYLE PITTS definitely is. Trask is ranked #5 in the country in passing efficiency with a QB ranking of 196.4. Florida’s outstanding average of 495 total yards per game is #13 in the country. Their average of 44.5 PPG is 4th BEST in the country. And as a result, they are one of only 14 teams that has played at least two games WITHOUT an ‘Under’ (2-0 O/U / 74.0 combined ppg!). After watching the Texas A&M secondary give up not one, not two, but THREE scoring passes of longer than 60 yards against Alabama… heat coach Mullen and QB Trask have to be salivating whole putting together this week’s offensive game plan...

On the flip side, we get to the host Aggies. In last week’s writeup, we told you to forget their shitty debut against Vanderbilt… which they won by a low score of only 17 to 12. In last week’s ‘Over-EASY’ win for us, Texas A&M responded with a 450-yard offensive output against a pretty good Alabama defense. That included 335 passing yards for senior quarterback Kellen Mond. He shook off the rust of that Game One versus Vanderbilt. And this is the week to crank up that offensive production even more. They have the pieces on offense. Three different receivers have over 100 yards in the air… and they have a pair of RB’s who love to catch the ball in sophomore Ainias Smith and sophomore Isiah Spiller. Remember, this is NOT the great Florida defense of the last few seasons. The Gators are ranked in the BOTTON TEN In the country so far in the 2020 season, allowing 471 yards per game and 30.0 points per game…

GATORS: 8-1 O/U last nine as road favorites... TEXAS A&M: 4-0 O/U last 4 as home underdogs... Based on the current pointspread and OU line, the predicted final score on this game is Florida 32 - Texas A&M 25. Our database models differ pretty strongly. The most common score that comes up when I run my year-to-date simulations are: FLORIDA GATORS 38 - TEXAS A&M AGGIES 31. That’s a total of 69 points. And that’s more than 10 points HIGHER than the current OU line. Any College Game with a total thats more than 10 points ‘off’ the current OU line triggers a 3*** Best Bet for our service.

Miami has looked good so far, but its three wins have come against marginal competition. Louisville looked like a potential top-15 club but has lost three straight and Florida State could be in the throes of a disastrous season. The Hurricanes can silence my inner doubter if they compete and take this to the wire. But I think they are in for a brutal wake-up call from the best team in the country.

The Cyclones are in a natural letdown spot following their historic win over Oklahoma last week. It feels like the CFB world forgot about the Red Raiders after their close call with Houston Baptist in their opener. They had Texas beaten two weeks ago before allowing a miracle comeback, and also competed well at Kansas State last week despite going with their backup QB most of the way. Iowa State could be in for a long day if it comes out flat.

Florida's leaky defense allowed South Carolina to cover last week, but it's also part of a formula that led to the game going Over the total. The Gators might have the most explosive offense in the country but they aren't the '85 Bears on the other side. This should lead to an Over on Saturday as well. Led by veteran QB Kellen Mond, the Aggies rolled up more than 450 yards of total offense last week against Alabama but were hurt by two turnovers.

The Tar Heels were a little overvalued to start the season and were predictably sluggish last week coming off nearly a month away from the field because of game cancelations. But this is an overreaction the other way, as the spread has dropped from an opener of -5.5 against a Virginia Tech club that I'm not sure is deserving of this much respect. Look for the Tar Heels to get their potent offense going and pull away.

About twice a year I see picks from Texas Sportswire and Indian Cowboy. I know you'll post 'em if you see 'em. Thanks in advance.

I haven't seen Texas Sportswire in ages and the only thing I saw from Indian the scam cowboy was a couple of futbol plays
