HITMAN | NFL Prop - Thursday, Oct 7 2021 8:20PM
Woods O55.5

(-115)William Hill 301 LOS vs 302 SEA single-dime bet

Analysis: Robert Woods (LAR) O55.5 Rec Yds -115 (Fanduel)
Good up to 59.5. McVay has come out saying the Rams need to emphasize getting Woods the ball, and the matchup is tremendous.

L.A. RAMS -1
ANALYSIS: You'll hear a lot about the Seahawks' excellent history on Thursdays, where they're 7-1-2 ATS since Russell Wilson joined the team along with nine straight outright wins. But that doesn't take into account the 2021 Seahawks, who have been troubled by inconsistency moving the ball to the point they totaled minus-12 yards on their first five drives last week, as well as a defense that has allowed 450 yards to three straight opponents (including one with a rookie QB subbing in mid-game). The Rams got a wakeup call last week but are still the team that beat the defending champs pretty handily, and I have much more confidence in them right now than I do the Seahawks.

HOUSTON @ TULANE | 10/07 | 7:30 PM EDT
HOUSTON -6
ANALYSIS: Bit surprised the Cougars aren't at least -7 with Tulane at 1-4 and with its only win over FCS school Morgan State. The Green Wave played their guts out in the season opener at Oklahoma but mostly haven't been the same since. Their defense is terrible. Houston has won four straight in convincing fashion since a season-opening loss to Texas Tech and it has a stellar defense, ranking third nationally in third down conversion percentage (.250), fourth in total (253.6), fourth in first downs (62), fifth in defensive touchdowns (2), fifth in passing yards allowed (144.4) and 10th in scoring defense (15.0).

CHI. WHITE SOX @ HOUSTON | 10/07 | 4:07 PM EDT
HOUSTON -144
ANALYSIS: The White Sox might -- might -- be without slugger and reigning AL MVP Jose Abreu in Game 1 as he was held out Sunday due to a non-COVID illness -- he didn't even travel with the team originally to Houston but was to fly there Wednesday night. A decision on his status will be made Thursday morning. His absence would be massive. The possibility of no Abreu, plus how Sox starter Lance Lynn historically has struggled in Houston (4.92 ERA) and Astros starter Lance McCullers' domination this year and, well, the home team takes Game 1.

ANALYSIS: Weirdly enough I actually love the Rams on a short week here on the road. Yes, they were just trounced by the Cardinals but they won't be the last, Arizona's explosive offense (and underrated defense) will do that a few more times to teams this season. But what I like in this spot for Los Angeles is that there isn't time to think about last week. Lost to a good team. Fine. Nothing big that you need to change, no "Come to Jesus" meeting necessary. Business trip and I think they handle it accordingly. Sean McVay is 5-1 ATS in his last six off a divisional loss. Seattle? 2-5 ATS off a divisional win.

MLB (Bob Balfe)
8:10 PM EST
Rotation #914
Rays -1.5 runs over Red Sox +130
McClanahan/Rodriguez
Tampa was the best team in the American League this year and had the Red Sox number as they dominated them down the stretch. This team is built for playoff baseball while Boston’s hitting dips away from home. This was a team that did not play that well post all-star break and I do believe that Tampa has the edge at every single position and is a better team across the board. Look for Tampa to get the early lead and for their bullpen to hold on. Moneyline too high to play so take the Rays -1.5 runs +130

Play Rating: 4 units
Play: Tampa Bay to Win the Series

Over the last three seasons, Tampa Bay is 30-18 against the Red Sox while winning the season series all three years. The Rays are so good at finding the matchups that put them in a position to succeed. They've got home field advantage. They have the pitching advantage, since Nathan Eovoldi threw on Tuesday. JD Martinez is expected to miss at least a few games in this series. All of the intangibles point in Tampa Bay's favor.
I wouldn't fault anyone for splitting their bet between Tampa Bay for the series, and Tampa Bay in Thursday's Game 1. I think the Rays take Game 1 fairly comfortably. Eduardo Rodriguez has a couple pre-All State and post-All Star splits that are a little concerning for the Red Sox. He posted a 7-3 record after the All-Star break, but his innings pitched dropped, his strike-out rate dropped, his WHIP increased and his walk rate increased. Only 25-percent of Boston's starting pitcher outings resulted in a “quality start" this season. Boston's pitching rotation is not built for the postseason, and when you have Eovaldi limited because he just pitched, they're just not set up to succeed in this series.
Shop around! At the time of posting, Rays to win the series is available at FanDuel (-168) and DraftKings (-170), which is much cheaper than a lot of others in the market. Do your best to find the best number, because that will certainly make a difference over the long run.
