BG has been quite the dumpster fire since Dino Babers left and despite having expectations to turn it around at least a little bit this season…starting out and then solely with MACtion on their plate may not have been what the doctor ordered for a Loeffler squad off a 3 win season and just 10 total wins since Babers departed in 2015!
Kent State was IMMEDIATELY on our radar for a potential spread WIN this week after narrowly defeating EMU (on the scoreboard) 27-23, after going down by 10 in the second half and rallying for a win. Good for the win, but digging deeper we have a team that ran for 212 yards all over EMU, won the turnover battle, TOP battle, and outgained the road squad by nearly 150 total yards. All these things are excellent aspects to back them against what might be the worst team in the league, but on top of that we have the fact Kent State REALLY CLAMPED down in the run game, forcing EMU to do anything they wanted through the air….holding them to 31 carries for 61 yards on the ground!
So, to BG…not only did they allow Toledo 100 more yards rushing than even Kent ran for in game 1, yes the Eagles let the Rockets hit the 300 yard rushing mark….but they were 8 of 30 thru the air…almost useless in the pass game. Kent should make mincemeat of the run game, and with everyone in Doyt Perry stadium KNOWING the pass game will have to be the method of moving the ball makes this all the more of an ugly contest on tap for tonight!
X factor for this analytical discrepancy in talent and game planning….likely 20+mph winds on tap making it all the more difficult for the already immensely struggling Matt McDonald at QB for the Eagles…attempting to improve upon his 8/30, 128 yard, 2 INT debut last week!
Finally…I know….too much…these 2 play for the “Anniversary Award” and historically BG lead the series 60-17 all time!
