TORONTO @ WASHINGTON | 08/17 | 7:05 PM EDT
TORONTO -177
ANALYSIS: My model says the Blue Jays win in almost 70 percent of the simulations, so you're getting strong value with them at this number. Toronto split the first six contests of its eight-game road trip and now faces a Washington team that has lost seven straight and 12 of its last 13. The Nationals also have dropped seven in a row at home and allowed 22 runs while losing three against Atlanta over the weekend. Washington RHP Erick Fedde is winless in his last 10 starts. Take the Blue Jays.

CHI. CUBS @ CINCINNATI | 08/17 | 7:10 PM EDT
CINCINNATI -1.5
ANALYSIS: The Reds own a .781 OPS versus right-handed pitching, best in MLB, and tonight they face a struggling Kyle Hendricks. The current Cincy roster has a .603 slugging percentage and .984 OPS against Hendricks. Reds starter Vladimir Gutierrez is 3-0 with a 1.42 ERA in his last three starts. With the Cubs on a 12-game skid, I'm playing the Reds -1.5 runs at +115.
TORONTO @ WASHINGTON | 08/17 | 7:05 PM EDT
TORONTO -1.5
ANALYSIS: The Nats have lost seven straight and 12 of 13, and they have a run differential that's 184 runs worse than the Blue Jays. Erick Fedde has been lit up over his last four starts (6.08 ERA) while Toronto's Alek Manoah has been dynamite over his last six (1.53 ERA). The Blue Jays sport a .788 OPS against right-handed pitching, second-best in the majors. Play Toronto -1.5 runs at -130.

L.A. ANGELS @ DETROIT | 08/17 | 7:10 PM EDT
DETROIT -121
ANALYSIS: Could be history tonight as Detroit's Miguel Cabrera is one homer shy of 500 career. The Tigers were off Monday and are 7-1 in their past eight following an off day, but this is more about fading the Angels, who are playing in their third city in three nights (Anaheim, New York, Detroit), and their pitcher, Dylan Bundy. He is 2-9 with 6.21 ERA in 17 starts this year and 1-6 with a 7.48 ERA in night games. I expect this ML to rise a bit during the day.

CHI. CUBS @ CINCINNATI | 08/17 | 7:10 PM EDT
CINCINNATI -172
ANALYSIS: The Cubs have now lost 12 straight games and they are 21-41 on the road. They are 1-15 since the trade deadline and Kyle Hendricks was hit hard by the Reds the last time he faced them, and hit hard by the Brewers in his last start. Vladimir Gutierrez is 3-0 with a 1.42 ERA in August and he pitched well against the Cubs both times he faced them this season. The Reds didn’t need to use any of their best relievers last night and now they are just 1.5 games out of the Wild Card. As long as we keep getting a ML under -200 against the Cubs, we are taking it. Especially when they’re on the road.
BOSTON @ N.Y. YANKEES | 08/17 | 1:05 PM EDT
N.Y. YANKEES -121
ANALYSIS: The Yankees are on fire right now but the Red Sox have owned this matchup so far this season. This will be the first matchup since the trade deadline and with the Yankees just 1.5 games back, you know Yankee Stadium will be rockin. Jordan Montgomery has faced the Red Sox three times this season and was one out away from three quality starts. Tanner Houck has been good but he struggles with walks and he doesn’t get deep into games. Take the value on the Yankees at home.

CHI. WHITE SOX +101
ANALYSIS: Chicago is a home underdog in this matchup between the American League's top two teams because of the pitching matchup. That is a mistake. While Chicago is starting Reynaldo Lopez, he hasn't lasted for more than three innings in a game this season. Lopez produced three scoreless innings in his last start in a 1-0 loss to Minnesota, and the White Sox are 7-0 since August of 2018 when Lopez starts at home after pitching for less than five innings in his previous start. I predict Chicago wins this one by two runs.

Date/Time: Aug 17 2021 7:10 PM EDT
Betting Line Provider: Consensus Line
Play Rating: 3 units
Play: Detroit Tigers -119 D Bundy (RHP), C Mize (RHP) Must Start
3 unit Detroit Tigers (-119) over Los Angeles Angels (Mize/Bundy) –
Dylan Bundy has a stat line that may almost make you look no further, he is 2-9 w/ a 6.19 ERA, in his last 15 games (11 starts, 4 relief appearances) he is 2-6 with a 7.77 ERA, and as a starter this season he is 2-9 with a 6.21 ERA. On the road Bundy is 1-5 with a 5.57 ERA in 10 games (8 starts), at night he is 1-6 with a 7.48 ERA in 12 games (9 starts) and since the All-Star Break he is 1-2 with a 3.94 ERA in 5 games (3 starts). When Bundy is on the mound the Angels are 2-6 in his L8 as a D and 0-8 H2H w/ a SP with an ERA < 4.00. LA has struggled vs. a RHP even when Bundy wasn't on the mound, they are 2-12 vs. a RHP w/ an ERA < 4.00 in the FGS (1-7 on the road), on the year they are 9-30 vs. RHP w/ ERA < 4.00 (including 3-13 on the road and 4-16 as a dog, they are 6-24 vs. RHP w/ ERA under 4.00 & a WHIP 1.3 w/ line > -140, they are also 8-0 in the L8 in the FGS vs. a NDIV team w/ line less then 200, 10-1 @ H vs. a non-divisional team throwing a RHP w/ a line between -140 & 130, and they are 9-1 in the L10 as a F w/ a line < -110. Detroit also has Mize on the mound, while his stats haven''t been overwhelming one way or another, he does have an ERA under 3.50 in his L15 games, and Detroit is 3-1 in his 4 starts in the first game of a series @ H, 2-0 as a F in the first game of a series and the Tigers are 10-3 in Mize's L13 starts vs. non-divisional opponents.

Play: Toronto Blue Jays -1.5 (-130) A Manoah (RHP), E Fedde (RHP) Must Start
The Jays have every imaginable advantage in this one, SP, bullpen, form, lineup and every other factor that exists. The Jays are on an absolute roll and on the road they get 9 at bats. Fedde has only lasted more than 4 innings once in his last 4 starts and the Washington bullpen is trash. They Jays hit #2 vs RHP and this should be a name your score game.

The Astros are crushing LHP and Lynch has a 1.60+ WHIP and a 7+ ERA at home. The Astros have a bad taste in their mouth from yesterday's result and my numbers have this total at 3.4. Take the Astros Over 2.5 1st 5.

PITTSBURGH @ L.A. DODGERS | 08/17 | 10:10 PM EDT
L.A. DODGERS -1.5
ANALYSIS: On Monday, the Dodgers did not light up the scoreboard, scoring just two runs against Pittsburgh. After completing a six-game road trip and a late Sunday flight from New York, that offensive struggle was expected. On Tuesday, L.A.'s bats should be back in order against the struggling Pirates and pitcher Will Crowe. Since the money line price is heavy, take the better price with the run line. Play the Dodgers.
MILWAUKEE @ ST. LOUIS | 08/17 | 7:45 PM EDT
MILWAUKEE -153
ANALYSIS: On Tuesday, the Brewers start their third straight road series, at St. Louis. Pitching for the Cardinals will be Adam Wainwright, who is coming off a complete game shutout over the Pirates. He’s also been magnificent against the Brewers, winning four of his last five starts. But I expect yesterday’s off day to be beneficial for Milwaukee, led by pitcher Corbin Burnes. Take the Brewers.
SAN DIEGO @ COLORADO | 08/17 | 8:40 PM EDT
SAN DIEGO -105
ANALYSIS: Amidst several injuries, the Padres will start Matt Strahm as an opener for Tuesday’s game against the Rockies. He likely won’t pitch beyond a couple of innings, lessening the impact of his high ERA (8.44). Although the Rockies have been effective at home, pitcher German Marquez has struggled since the All-Star break. Take the Padres at even money.

CHI. CUBS @ CINCINNATI | 08/17 | 7:10 PM EDT
CINCINNATI -1.5
ANALYSIS: The Cubs have lost 12 in a row and only once in the last 11 did they come within one run. Thanks to Kyle Hendricks taking the ball, we get a good number here on the Reds' -1.5 run line. Even if Hendricks throws the ball well and the Cubs hit, it won't matter. The Cubs' bullpen is totally overworked and terrible. Much attention was paid to the core being traded, but they gutted their bullpen. Cubs relievers have a 6.75 ERA since the All-Star break and it's 8.39 in August. Oh and Reds starter Vladimir Gutierrez has a 1.78 ERA in his last four starts. He shut down the Braves last time out. Hard to see the Reds sweating much here.
SAN DIEGO @ COLORADO | 08/17 | 8:40 PM EDT
COLORADO -105
ANALYSIS: You see what it says I do right there by my name. I stick with what works. The Rockies have played like a 105-win team at home this season. German Marquez is starting, too. Though he was ravaged last time out, it was on the road against the Giants. The Rockies have won eight of Marquez's last nine home starts, including his most recent home start when he threw six scoreless innings. The Padres are going to try and patch things together with an opener and a pitching staff that has a 4.82 ERA in Coors Field this year along 13 on the injured list right now. Ride the Home Rockies again.

Rockies -110 over Padres
Marquez/Strahm
The Rockies have been hitting ball well this month, hit the ball great at home and crush left handed pitching. The Padres will start Matt Strahm who just doesn’t have that many innings pitched this year and I expect them to get into their bullpen quite early tonight. The total is set at 12 runs so Vegas thinks this should be high scoring. I favor the team that was built for high scoring games in this park. Take the Rockies.

FEATURED PICK
CLEVELAND @ MINNESOTA | 08/17 | 8:10 PM EDT
MINNESOTA -145
ANALYSIS: Minnesota is showing signs of life in winning five of six and Cleveland used its two best setup men in Monday's loss so they may not be available here. The Tribe also are resting a big bat in DH Franmil Reyes (20 HR, 54 RBIs, .839 OPS). The Twins also appear to have the pitching edge with Bailey Ober (1-1, 4.53) over Eli Morgan (1-5, 6.52). Cleveland has lost five straight as a road dog.
SAN DIEGO @ COLORADO | 08/17 | 8:40 PM EDT
COLORADO +1.5
ANALYSIS: This just shifted to the Padres being slight favorites on the moneyline, which I frankly don't understand, so like I usually do will take the Rockies at +1.5 on the runline in their own park. It has been easy money almost all season. Colorado has won eight of German Marquez's past nine starts at home with him posting a 1.83 ERA over that span. He's 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA this year in two outings vs. the Friars, and those were both in San Diego.

L.A. ANGELS @ DETROIT | 08/17 | 7:10 PM EDT
DETROIT -135
ANALYSIS: The Angels are 3-7 in their last 10 games, and as Severance pointed out, the Angels are playing in their third city in three nights. The Tigers are 33-27 at home this season and Casey Mize has pitched solid and will give a good four or five runs. The Angels bullpen is miserable and I think the Tigers should win this game at home. Miggy is in the lineup and could provide a big boost with his 500th home run against a home run prone pitcher. Take the Tigers.
SAN DIEGO @ COLORADO | 08/17 | 8:40 PM EDT
COLORADO -105
ANALYSIS: The Rockies are 39-21 this season at home and the Padres are 2-8 in their last 10 road games. German Marquez has dominated the Padres this season and he has dominated at home going 7-2 with a 3.05 ERA. Matthew Strahm is expected to open and he has allowed runs in each of his last three appearances. The Padres are 27-30 on the road and their taxed bullpen will need to work 7 innings again tonight. Take the Rockies at home.
MILWAUKEE @ ST. LOUIS | 08/17 | 7:45 PM EDT
ST. LOUIS +143
ANALYSIS: The Cardinals have now won six straight games and they are 8-2 in their last 10. The Cardinals are much better at home at 32-25. Adam Wainwright and Corbin Burnes have both been very good this season and very good against each other’s team. These teams are 3-3 against each other this season and tend to play close games. The Cardinals bullpen has been solid lately and I think this game should be much closer to 50-50 so we’ll take the Cards as the home dogs.
