CBS SportsLine Plays Wednesday 11/3

Micah Roberts

C. MICHIGAN @ W. MICHIGAN | 11/03 | 7:00 PM EDT
W. MICHIGAN -9
ANALYSIS: Western Michigan is the top-rated MAC team with one of the slickest QBs in Kaleb Eleby but has been a loser in two of its last three. The losses were as favorites, one of them at home to Ball State laying -13.5. The last time the Broncos came off a loss, they beat Kent 64-31 at home. I’m on Western Michigan to prove it is still the best team in the MAC by winning in a blowout.

N. ILLINOIS @ KENT ST. | 11/03 | 7:00 PM EDT
KENT ST. -3.5
ANALYSIS: We’ve got a couple of senior quarterbacks set to battle, with Northern Illinois’ Rocky Lombardi coming off his best performance and riding a five-game winning streak. Kent State's Dustin Crum has been one of my favorites because he doesn’t make mistakes. His only two interceptions came in a season-opening loss to Texas A&M. The spread suggests this is a neutral game, but it’s not. The Golden Flashes are 3-0 at home. Cheap price, I’m on Kent State's balanced offense to cover.

NASHVILLE @ EDMONTON | 11/03 | 8:30 PM EDT
EDMONTON -200
ANALYSIS: This is about the limit of where I will go on the moneyline. Nashville is on the second of a back-to-back after burning me last night in Calgary with an overtime victory. Top-line winger Filip Forsberg (undisclosed) was injured in the third period and is in question for this one. The Preds also presumably will turn to No. 2 netminder Connor Ingram.

COLUMBUS @ COLORADO | 11/03 | 9:00 PM EDT
COLUMBUS +1.5
ANALYSIS: Colorado will be for sure without top winger Mikko Rantanen and stellar young defenseman Cale Makar, plus another key forward, Andre Burakovsky, is in question. Even more important, shaky backup Jonas Johansson already has been named the starter in net. Not ready to back Columbus at +175 to win outright on the road, although I thought about it, so we'll take the Jackets at -135 on the puckline.

CAROLINA @ CHICAGO | 11/03 | 8:30 PM EDT
CAROLINA -150
ANALYSIS: The one-win Blackhawks aren't as bad as they've looked and the Hurricanes obviously aren't going 82-0, so would a Chicago win here totally shock me? No, but getting the Canes at just -150 is too good of value to pass up. Top-six Chicago forward Tyler Johnson remains out, and I tend to think No. 2 Kevin Lankinen starts in net. This ML is going to rise ...

UTAH ST. @ NEW MEXICO ST. | 11/06 | 4:00 PM EDT
UNDER 71
ANALYSIS: This big total feels about a touchdown too high. In its three road games this year, Utah State is averaging 34.3 points and 503.0 yards of total offense. So let's assume USU is getting 40 points. Is New Mexico State getting 31? No freaking chance. The Aggies average 24.1 points and are one of the worst rushing teams in the nation. The SportsLine Projection Model has 66 points being scored. Yeah, I could see something like USU 43, NMSU 23.

CHICAGO @ PHILADELPHIA | 11/03 | 7:00 PM EDT
CHICAGO +2
ANALYSIS: The Bulls mounted a furious comeback in their last game against the Celtics, erasing a 19-point deficit in the second half to win by 14. Not only do they have a 6-1 record this season, but they are also 6-1 ATS. Although the Sixers are expected to get Joel Embiid back for this game, Tobias Harris (health and safety protocols) and Ben Simmons will remain out. This is a favorable opportunity for the Bulls to remain hot.

PORTLAND @ CLEVELAND | 11/03 | 7:00 PM EDT
CLEVELAND +4.5
ANALYSIS: The Trail Blazers are only going to go as far as Damian Lillard can carry them. He’s only shot 34.9 percent from the field this season, including 23.1 percent from behind the arc. That’s played a big role in their 3-4 start. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers have been more competitive than last season, using an improved defense to go 5-3 ATS. After finally returning home from a long road trip, look for the Cavaliers to put up a good fight. If Lillard remains cold, they could even win outright.

CHICAGO @ PHILADELPHIA | 11/03 | 7:00 PM EDT
CHICAGO +115
ANALYSIS: The Bulls (6-1) have won two straight since losing their first game of the year and are in a favorable spot against the 76ers (5-2). Danny Green (hamstring) and Tobias Harris (health and safety protocols) are out for Philadelphia, and Chicago's scorers can capitalize on several mismatches. While Joel Embiid can carry the 76ers after taking a game off for rest, he's 6-5 all-time in head-to-head matchups with Nikola Vucevic. The Bulls have the more well-rounded team, and DeMar DeRozan will face backups at power forward on the tail end of back-to-back 30-point games.
