Bryan Leonard Total Domination Game of the Month

PICK: New Mexico State at Hawaii Over

Aggies received a boost last week with Chase Holbrook returning to action behind center. He produced 404 passing yards and 3 touchdowns against Idaho. This offense is night and day when he’s healthy, and his absence earlier this season really hurt this team. With Holbrook starting and playing the majority of the game, the Aggies have put up point totals of 45 against Idaho, 20 at Auburn, 29 hosting UTEP, and 34 at New Mexico. With JJ McDermott at quarterback the Aggies managed 21 at Louisiana Tech and were shutout at Boise State. Holbrook has a career touchdown to interception ratio of 51 to 20 with a completion percentage of 71%. The Aggies average 7.93 yards per pass attempt with Holbrook behind center over the course of his career. The posted total on this game seems to be a combination of the two quarterbacks instead of using Holbrook’s stats as the basis. New Mexico did suffer a blow to their scoring unit as leading receiver Chris Williams will be out 6 to 8 weeks. He was their leading receiver averaging 96 yards per game. But this team is loaded with talented pass catchers, so if an injury had to happen this is one position where they can withstand the attrition.
Hawaii simply put is a scoring machine. They have produced at least 41 points in 16 of their last 17 games. The Warriors are averaging 52.1 points per game this season while ranking 31st in total defense. Those defensive numbers are a complete fraud when you consider that they have played very weak scoring units. Louisiana Tech is ranked 100th in scoring offense, UNLV’s ranking is 111th, Idaho comes in at 86th, Utah State ranks 108th and San Jose State comes in at #113. The Aggies of New Mexico State are ranked 68th in the country in scoring and that includes the games started by McDermott. The Warriors allow 24 points per game despite playing those weak offenses along with powerhouses such as Northern Colorado and Charleston Southern.
The last two years these clubs combined for 79 and 77 points. Keep in mind that last year’s 49-30 Hawaii victory was played under the old time rules which eliminated 9% of the game’s plays. The new kickoff rules also increase scoring and we expect the kickoff specialists to be very busy. Hawaii hasn’t faced an offense with this much talent and the Warriors always get their points. This one should be a shootout.

COMPS:

Jim Feist

My free pick of the day is the game between (101) Boston College and (102) Virginia Tech. Take "Under". One of the best defensive match-ups of the season. BC has climbed to No. 3 in the Associated Press poll, their highest ranking since 1942. Boston College (6-0 SU/4-1 ATS) has been on a roll for new coach Jeff Jagodzinski. The defense is fast and outstanding allowing 17 points, 46 yards rushing (1.8 yards per rush), though 277 yards passing per contest. The Eagles beat Wake Forest 38-28 as Ryan completed 32-of-52 passes for a career-high 408 yards. Wake Forest, a great running team, had ONE yard rushing! Virginia Tech (6-1 SU, 2-4 ATS) also has a strong defense allowing 16 ppg and just 2.8 yards per rush. They are also awesome on special teams, as we saw in a 41-23 rout of Clemson. Virginia Tech got outgained 380-219, but they shut down the Tigers running game -- Clemson had just 9 yards rushing! They were No. 1 in total defense a year ago and have 16 starters back (8 on defense). Don't look for much offense in this game as it goes UNDER the total.

Dave Cokin

My free pick of the day is the game between (13) MIN Wild and (14) EDM Oilers. Take "(13) MIN Wild". Dave has his Revenge Game of the Year going Saturday. But you don't have to wait till game day to get the play and it's FREE by calling Dave today at 1-888-389-7223! Plus, get tonight's big "Window" play on Air Force-New Mexico for just $10!... "The Minnesota Wild looked like a cinch Wednesday night as they skated to a 3-0 lead at Calgary. That's usually game, set and match for Wild, but not this time. The Flames came roaring back (good for me as I had a strong play on Calgary) and scored the game's last five goals. I have to believe that Minnesota will be in a take no prisoners mode tonight, and they usually handle the hapless Oilers at any rate. Good sized price for the roadie here, but I like quality teams off a loss such as the Wild suffered, so I'll play the Minnesota side here."

Vegas Hotsheet - Free Pick

- New Mexico -5.5

Scott Spreitzer

Game: Air Force at New Mexico Oct 25 2007 9:00PM

Prediction: New Mexico

Reason: I'm laying the points with UNM on Thursday. Air Force heads into tonight's game with a lot of bumps and bruises, including QB Shaun Carney. Both teams have one conference loss on the season with each team losing to BYU. But UNM is the stronger team. The Lobos lost to BYU by seven with the difference coming on an interception return for a touchdown. Air Force was pummeled by the Cougars from the opening kickoff until the final gun. In fact, the Lobos are just 11 points away from a perfect season, with their other loss coming against UTEP in the season opener, by four points. UNM is playing with confidence after back-to-back MWC road wins over Wyoming and SDSU. Now, back at home, they have a great opportunity to end a three game skid to Air Force. The home team is 7-3 SU and 8-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings between these two schools. Look for the home trend to continue on Thursday with a 14-to-17 point UNM win. New Mexico, minus points, on Thursday. Thanks! GL! Scott.

Game: Boston College vs. Virginia Tech

Proposition: Longest Touchdown Of The Game?

Plays On: The longest touchdown of the game "Over 40.5" yards.

Colorado at BOSTON (-180) By Karl Garrett, Featured Handicapper Last night the Boston Red Sox made it 3 straight post season games of 11 runs scored or better. That kind of hitting will not dry up overnight, and the G-Man expects to see another high-scoring game at Fenway Park.

Colorado with go with rookie Ubaldo Jimenez who has pitched quite well in his first post season, but pitching at Fenway Park in this big of a spot can unnerve even the best of them.

Expect Jimenez to give up a few runs in tonight's assignment.

We also expect the Rockies to fare a little better this evening at the plate against Curt Schilling. Colorado was embarrassed last night, and while the G-Man is not backing them to win the game, I do think they will get a few runs as they get a little more comfortable being back to playing on back-to-back nights.

Take the OVER in Game 2 of the World Series tonight.

2♦ OVER

Colorado (+170) at BOSTON By Bobby Maxwell, Featured Handicapper Today's FREE play comes in the World Series Game 2 at Fenway Park as we go with the Rockies to take down Curt Schilling and the Red Sox and even this series at 1-1.

Forget about that 13-1 game Wednesday night as the Rockies hadn't played in eight days and looked a little like deer in headlights. They've gotten a game under their belt now and will settle in with a big offense night tonight.

Ubaldo Jimenez (4-4, 3.95 ERA) takes the hill for Colorado against Schilling (11-8, 3.82). Remember Game 2 of the ALCS when Schilling go rocked for five runs in 4 2/3 innings of a 13-6 loss to the Indians.

Schilling has a 4.23 ERA in 15 games at Fenway this year and when he faced the Rockies on June 13 he gave up six runs on nine hits in five innings of a 12-2 defeat. In his career against Colorado he has a 6.96 ERA in five starts.

Jimenez has been outstanding in two playoff starts as the Rockies beat the Phillies 2-1 in Game 2 of the NLDS and beat the D'Backs 3-2 in Game 2 of the NLCS. In 11 1/3 innings this playoff season he's allowed just two runs on eight hits.

I expect the Colorado bats to get it going today as it was going to take a while to get the timing back after an eight-day layoff. Let's grab all this plus-money and play the Rockies.

2♦ COLORADO

Colorado at BOSTON (-180) By Joel Tyson, Featured Handicapper The red Sox continue to stay on fire, and the Rockies seem to be having trouble shaking the rust off, after watching last nights 13-1 drubbing by the Sox.

Curt Schilling goes tonight for the Sox, and once again brings much needed playoff experience to the mound.

Red Sox are playing great baseball right now from top to bottom, and no let down appears to be in sight.

Sox continue to roll tonight in Game 2.

2♦ Boston

Boston College at VIRGINIA TECH (-3) By Sports Gambling Hotline, Featured Handicapper Our free play run stands at 46-32-2!

Tonight we look for a low-scoring contest in Blacksburg as Boston College and Virginia Tech do battle.

Last year these teams played to a combined 25 points, while the season before in Blacksburg saw 40 combined points. The Tech defense has held their opponents to 14-points or less in 5 of their 7 games this season, and at home they have allowed 24-points total in 3 games!

Boston College's defense has allowed an average of less than 50 yards rushing per-game, and they lead the nation with 18 interceptions through 7 games. BC has also allowed 17 points or less in 5 of their 7 games this year!

Defense figures to be the order of the night tonight at Lane Stadium.

Look for a low-scoring affair, as we play Boston College and Virginia Tech UNDER the posted total.

Play the UNDER.

4♦ UNDER

Boston College at VIRGINIA TECH (-3) By Michael Cannon, Featured Handicapper A huge prime time clash between Top 10 schools as Boston College travels to take on Virginia Tech.

Take the under tonight in this ACC clash.

Both teams are ranked in the Top 10 and are doing so with impressive defensive performances.

Boston College may have the marquee name at quarterback with Matt Ryan, but he is going to find it tough going against a Hokie defense that surrenders only 16 points and 302 yards per game.

On the other hand, Virginia Tech has struggled on offense this year and won't find it easy going against a Boston College defense that allows just 17.7 points and 323.6 yards per game.

The last two meetings stayed under the posted total and the under has cashed in six of the Hokies' last eight conference games.

Take the under as points come at a premium tonight in Blacksburg.

3♦ UNDER

Boston College (+3) at VIRGINIA TECH By Chuck Franklin, Featured Handicapper Despite the fact that Virginia Tech has won eight of the last ten against Boston College, including four of the last five at home, I'll be on the Eagles tonight. BC handily beat the Hokies the last time these two met by a 22-3 score. I expect much of the same tonight.

QB Matt Ryan has had a solid season for Boston College and is now 21-4 as a starter. The Eagles haven't lost this season behind his leadership and are sitting in the #2 spot in the BCS standings. The Eagles also have the nation's top rushing defense, allowing less than 50 yards per game rushing. If Virginia Tech must rely on it's QB to win, they will be in trouble. Whether it's Sean Glennon or freshman Tyrod Tayler behind center the defensive pressure will be too much. BC leads the country with 18 interceptions this season.

Boston College is a very profitable road dog, going 9-1 ATS the last 10 in that situation. They are also a solid 8-2 ATS the last 10 against teams with a winning record. The Hokies are only 1-4 ATS the last five games as a favorite and 1-4 ATS the last five home games. They are on an overall 2-5 ATS run. I'll take the points, but I do believe Boston College will win this game outright.

3♦ BOSTON COLLEGE

Lenny Del Genio's 20* Thurs Nite Game of the Month (21-10-2 or 68% TY!)
Play on Air Force at 9:00 ET. Fisher DeBerry did a fantastic job at Air Force in his 23 years, considering all the academic restrictions at the service academy. In 23 years he had just FIVE losing seasons and took Air Force to 12 bowl games. However, THREE of the five losing seasons came from 2004 through 2006 (13-21) and it was time for him to go. Troy Calhoun, a 1989 Air Force grad, has taken over and has had a superb first season, leading the Falcons to a 6-2 start, including a 5-1 mark in the MWC. Air Force is again one of the nation's top rushing teams, averaging 259.9 ypg on 5.0 ypc. Chad Hall leads the way with 750 yards (7.1) and nine TDs. QB Carney is completing 61.7% (5-3 ratio) and averaging 123.4 ypg through the air (almost 30 ypg MORE than LY). However, it's been on the defensive side of the ball that the Falcons are really improved. After allowing more than 31 ppg (and over 400 ypg in '04 and '05) plus 25.2 ppg and over 350 ypg LY, the Falcons are allowing just 17.6 ppg in '07! New Mexico (5-2) is always a tough defensive team and '07 is no different, allowing 17.4 ppg and 94.7 ypg rushing (3.0 ypc). However, the Lobos haven't been able to slow Air Force's running game in losing three straight years (AF has averaged 31.3 ppg), so with a new DC this year and a short week to prepare, I don't expect them to stop the Falcons here. QB Porterie (63.0% / 254.7 ypg / 9-5 ratio) has two excellent WRs (Smith and Brown) plus RB Ferguson (727 YR / 9 TDs) is solid but as mentioned, this is a new and improved Air Force D. Take the points, as Air Force is my 20* Thursday Nite Game of the Month.
Good luck, Lenny
