Michael Cannon Goes 2-0 on Thursday, Up 15 Dimes
Friday Picks:

10 Dime –

RED SOX
Take the Red Sox in Game 1 of the ALCS tonight over the Indians.
I can’t see the Red Sox losing this game tonight. I just can’t.
They hit their stride in the last two weeks of the regular season and it was due in large part to the return of their two sluggers in the lineup, David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez.
They are the two biggest keys to the BoSox lineup. When they are mashing the ball like they are now, it causes the opposition to pitch around them, giving the Red Sox ample opportunities to score early and often.
It also causes the opposing pitcher to run up his pitch count early, and in this case that could spell doom for Cleveland’s C. C. Sabathia.
Sabathia was wild in his start against the Yankees, lasting only five innings while allowing four hits, including two homeruns.
If Sabathia starts to nibble against the BoSox, chances are he won’t see the sixth inning tonight either. The burly left-hander is just 2-4 in seven career starts against Boston with a 3.91 ERA.
The Red Sox will counter with playoff extraordinaire, Josh Beckett.
The right-hander won 20 games for Boston this year and has a spectacular 1.74 ERA in seven postseason appearances. Beckett is 5-2 in his last 11 overall starts and the Red Sox are 5-1 in their last six at Fenway against a left-handed pitcher. More impressively, they are 4-0 in their last four ALCS games and 6-1 in their last seven playoff home games.
Cleveland went just 2-5 against Boston this year.
Take the Red Sox for the win in Game 1 of the ALCS.

5 Dime –

SAN JOSE ST.
Take the points with San Jose State tonight when they host Hawaii.
I know it’s a risky proposition betting against Hawaii’s high-powered offense, but there are just too many question marks regarding quarterback Colt Brennan’s health.
Brennan missed the entire second half of last week’s 52-37 victory over Utah State after he re-injured his ankle.
Even if Brennan stays healthy tonight, I feel that San Jose State can stay within the number because of the recent outstanding play of their quarterback, Adam Tafralis.
Tafralis has led the Spartans to three straight wins, during which he has completed 82 of 114 passes for 1058 yards and seven touchdowns.
I know Hawaii can light up the scoreboard with the best of them, but it’s really hard to gauge just how good this team is considering their first six opponents have combined for a record of just 7-28.
The Warriors will be traveling to the mainland for the fourth time in six weeks, so fatigue could be a factor here tonight.
The Spartans will also no doubt be looking for revenge after the Warriors destroyed them 54-17 on the island last year.
San Jose State is 5-1 ATS as a home dog of six or more points in a conference revenge situation, and they went 3-0 ATS last year as a home dog.
If all else fails, the Spartans will at least have the capability of pulling off a back-door cover thanks to Tafralis’ recent good play.
Take the points as San Jose State keeps it within the number at home.

Ron Raymond’s Friday Oct.12 CFL Pick

Montreal 48.5 vs. Toronto -4

Pick: Toronto -4 (5* BEST BET)

Ron’s Comment: The Montreal Alouettes are in a tough spot right Friday night vs. the Argos, as they are playing an important division game vs. the Toronto Argonauts on 3 days rest and the coaching staff had to force feed the game plan after a Thanksgiving day win over Hamilton at home. The Alouettes are a mess right now, they have some internal issues that have been made public and they have yet to include Ben Cahoon in their last 4 games. Toronto on the other hand has won 5 of their last 6 games, the defense is probably the most aggressive in the league at this point of the season and they should have a full house waiting for them on this marquee Friday Night Football game on TSN. Toronto in a minor romp! Plus, this is a revenge spot for the Argos who lost to Montreal in their first 2 meetings this season. Here’s a statistic that should make Argos bettors happy; when any CFL team is playing on 3 days rest and they are coming off a win, they are 2-9 SU in this spot since 1996.
ATSDatabase Tip: When TORONTO team played as a Home team - Coming off a Score 32 - 35 POINTS FOR in last game; The Argos are 7-3 SU and ATS in this spot.

Forecast: Toronto 32 Montreal 16

Ron’s CFL Record:

5* CFL BEST BET Record: 7-7-1 ATS
5* CFL Since 2000 73-37-1 66.4%
1* CFL Record: 29-20 ATS
Straight up Forecast: 38-17-1 SU

Ben Burns' NHL PERSONAL FAVORITE (13-6 L19 PFs!) - Friday

I'm laying the price with the LA KINGS. Both these teams have struggled in recent years and both have gotten off to poor starts. I feel that the Kings (1-3) have more talent than the Bruins (1-2) though and that they have a much better chance of being a competitive team this season. I also like the fact that the Kings are playing at home as they still want to earn their fans their first home victory. Dating back to last season the Bruins, who are playing their third straight away from Boston, are just 2-8 their last 10 road games. The Kings have now had plenty of time to shake off the jet lag from their trip to London. They beat the Bruins 6-0 the last time the teams met and I expect them to earn another victory this evening. *Personal Favorite

Finally a chance for viewers to see Colt Brennan on national television. It might be too late for him to have legitimate Heisman hopes, but the Warriors still have the carrot of the BCS to play for. Hawaii 42, San Jose State 23.
