The New York Giants are interested in luring Michael Strahan out of retirement after losing Pro Bowl defensive end Osi Umenyiora to a season-ending knee injury Saturday night.

The Super Bowl champions have contacted the seven-time Pro Bowl defensive end to see if he is interested in ending a brief retirement, a person familiar with the discussions told The Associated Press on Monday.
Even though the Giants have contacted the most productive defensive end in team history, oddsmakers remain unfazed about New York’s chances this season. Even with the possible return of Strahan, oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog have kept the Giants’ odds to win the 2009 Super Bowl at 20/1.
Still, Strahan would be a huge boost with the loss of Umenyiora, plus Mathias Kiwaunka wouldn’t have to move from his outside linebacker position to defensive end. It’s still a long shot that Strahan comes out of retirement, however, especially considering he went out last year as a Super Bowl champion.
Tony Agnone, Strahan's agent, did not return messages left at his office and on his cell phone by The Associated Press on Monday.
