NFL Week 9

Bears (4-3) @ Packers (5-2) — Simply put, Green Bay is 4-0 vs spread when they have zero or one turnover, 0-3 if they have 2+. Bears have four takeaways in last three games, after having 14 in first four. Much like Texans, Chicago had bye week to get backup QB McCown ready for 2nd ’13 start, vs Packer squad that won eight of last nine series games, winning last six in row, all by 7+ points. Bears lost last five visits to Lambeau, with three of five by 13+. Bears won six of last seven post-bye games under Smith; they lost pre-bye game 45-41 at Washington, as McCown did well in relief of injured Cutler (leg) but if they gave up 45 and last-minute score to banged-up RGIII, what will well-balanced Pack attack score? Green Bay won its last four games; they’re 3-0 as home faves this year, winning by 38-20/22-9/31-13 scores at Lambeau. Pack converted 20 of last 31 third down plays, as Nelson emerges as Rodgers’ go-to guy in clutch. Six of seven Chicago games went over total; three of last four Packer games stayed under. NFL-wide, double digit favorites are 8-5 vs spread this year, 2-1 in divisional games.

Monday Night Football Betting: Bears at Packers
By Covers.com

Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers (-10.5, 51)

Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers are hitting their stride and seek their fifth consecutive victory when they face the visiting Chicago Bears on Monday night. The hot streak has propelled the Packers to the top of the NFC North, a half-game ahead of Detroit and one in front of the Bears, who have not won in Green Bay since December 2008. The Packers have dominated their oldest rival in recent years behind Rodgers, winning the past six matchups.

Chicago's task is that much more daunting with journeyman Josh McCown set to start in place of Jay Cutler, who suffered a groin injury in a 45-41 loss at Washington prior to last week's bye. McCown acquitted himself well in relief of Cutler, throwing for 204 yards and a touchdown, and did make a start in Green Bay in December 2011. The Bears also have major concerns on the other side of the ball, ranking 29th in the league in points allowed (29.4).

LINE: Packers opened -11 and are now -10.5. The total opened 49.5 and is up to 51.

WEATHER: Forecasts are calling for a 27 percent chance of rain with wind blowing toward the N endzone at 10 mph.

ABOUT THE BEARS (4-3): McCown's last appearance against the Packers was his first start in four years after he was signed off waivers, so Chicago is confident he is more equipped to handle Sunday's assignment. "We're in a very fortunate position," Bears coach Marc Trestman said. "We've got a guy who has started in this league, has played, has a great grasp of our offense. I think that is clear." Running back Matt Forte rushed for 91 yards and a career-high three TDs versus Washington but has averaged only 44.4 yards rushing in the last five against the Packers.

ABOUT THE PACKERS (5-2): Rodgers has thrown 15 touchdowns against four interceptions and has received a boost from the running game, which produced 182 rushing yards in last week's 44-31 rout of Minnesota. Rookie Eddie Lacy had a career-high 29 carries and has toted the ball at least 22 times in the past four games while leading the league with 395 October rushing yards. "We're running the football a lot more effectively," Rodgers said Thursday. ''We're top five ... in throwing it and running it, which I'm sure hasn't happened here in a while."

TRENDS:

* Favorite is 5-0 ATS in their last five meetings.
* Under is 10-1 in the last 11 meetings.
* Bears are 0-5 ATS in their last five vs. NFC North.
* Under is 7-2 in Packers last nine vs. NFC North.

EXTRA POINTS:

1. Rodgers is 5-0 lifetime at home against Chicago.

2. Bears LB Lance Briggs (shoulder), a seven-time Pro Bowler, is out, putting more pressure on a unit that is 27th in total defense at 391.0 yards per game allowed.

3. The teams are meeting for the 185th time in the regular season, with Chicago leading the series 91-87-6.

MNF - Bears at Packers
By Kevin Rogers
VegasInsider.com

The two oldest rivals in the NFL meet up on Monday night even though the two teams are going in different directions. The Packers are rolling with four straight wins to sit atop the NFC North at 5-2, while the Bears have dropped three of four since a 3-0 start, as Chicago turns to a journeyman quarterback to grab the upset at Lambeau Field.

Jay Cutler suffered a groin injury prior to the bye week in a 45-41 defeat at Washington, a familiar setback for this Chicago franchise. Cutler broke his right thumb in 2011 making a tackle on an interception against San Diego after the Bears began the season at 7-3, but the team finished at 8-8. Now, the Bears need to turn to Josh McCown, who is making his first start since 2011 when he led Chicago to a season-ending victory at Detroit.

The Bears received long touchdowns from Devin Hester and Matt Forte to offset Cutler's absence, while McCown threw for 204 yards and a touchdown in the loss at Washington. McCown had an opportunity to give the Bears the lead late, but he was sacked to end the game, while the Chicago defense allowed 499 yards to the Redskins and gave up over 40 points for the second straight road game.

The Packers are back on the winning track after rolling the Vikings last Sunday night, 44-31 to cash outright as 7 ½-point road favorites. Aaron Rodgers put together an efficient 24-of-29 throwing, while tossing a pair of touchdown passes to Jordy Nelson. Green Bay's defense stepped up by limiting Minnesota to 243 yards, while picking up its 14th divisional win in 15 tries.

This series has been owned by Green Bay recently, as the Packers have won six straight meetings with the Bears. One of those victories came in the 2010 NFC Championship at Soldier Field, but the domination has come in Wisconsin. Mike McCarthy's club has won five straight home matchups with the Bears since 2008, while covering four times in this span. Last season, the Packers cruised past the Bears at Lambeau Field, 23-10 to cash as five-point favorites, as the Green Bay defense intercepted Cutler four times.

Since the start of 2011, Green Bay has covered eight of 13 times as a double-digit favorite, including an 8-2 ATS record at Lambeau Field. The Bears have struggled when receiving at least 10 points since 2009, posting a 1-3 ATS record, even though the lone cover came in the regular season finale of 2010 in a 10-3 defeat at Green Bay as 11-point 'dogs.

From a totals perspective, nine of the last 10 meetings between these rivals have finished 'under' the total. Chicago has turned into one of the top 'over' plays in the league this season, going 'over' in six of seven games, but went 'under' in the only contest with a closing number above 50 against New Orleans in Week 5. Green Bay began the season with three consecutive 'overs,' but the Packers have hit the 'under' in three of the past four contests.

The Packers are listed as 10 ½-point favorites, while the total is set at 50 ½. The game kicks off at 8:30 PM EST from Lambeau Field and can be seen on ESPN.

Week 11 Look-ahead:

Only two games take place between teams that are both above .500 and both involve NFC teams. The red-hot Panthers travel to San Francisco to battle the rested 49ers, while the Cowboys head to New Orleans for a showdown with the 6-2 Saints. All of the sudden, the NFC South race has become interesting with New Orleans owning just a one-game lead over Carolina through eight games.

Four contests involve division foes, but the biggest matchup happens in Southern California. The Broncos come off the bye to take on the Chargers, who lost in overtime at Washington to fall to 4-4. Denver can gain a half-game on idle Kansas City, as the Broncos have won three of their past four visits to Qualcomm Stadium.

Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers

Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers try to follow up their beat-down of the Vikings with another divisional win when Chicago Bears visit Lambeau Field Monday night. Tough draw for Bears and backup QB Josh McCown. Sports bettors who closely follow Green Bay will know the Pack have swept the series the past two years outscoring Bears just a shade over 11 points/game cashing 3 of 4 tickets (3-0-1 ATS) and are on an 8-2 (7-2-1 ATS) stretch vs Bears including 5-0 (3-1-1 ATS) when in the host roll. Those taking time to dig deeper will also be aware Pack are ridding a 10-0 (7-2-1 ATS) streak at home and have won 19 of 20 (13-5-2 ATS) in front of the home crowd. If that were not enough to have bettors leaning towards Green Bay our NFL Database chips in these nuggets. Packers are on a 16-1 (12-3-2 ATS) stretch vs the NFC North, 9-0 (6-1-2 ATS) on home field. Bears one of the worst at cashing tickets this season (1-5-1 ATS) are on a 1-6 ATS road skid vs the division, 1-4 ATS after scoring 30 or more points the previous game.

Bears look for a rare cover
By Sportsbook.ag

CHICAGO BEARS (4-3) at GREEN BAY PACKERS (5-2)

Sportsbook.ag Line & Total: Green Bay -11.5 & 51.5
Opening Line & Total: Packers -8 & 50

The Jay Cutler-less Bears head to Lambeau Field on Monday night for a matchup with the streaking Packers.

Chicago is coming off a bye week in which Josh McCown prepared for his new role as the starting quarterback where he will replace Cutler (groin) for the next month. The Packers also have injury concerns being minus three key receivers in WR Randall Cobb (fibula), WR James Jones (shin) and TE Jermichael Finley (neck). However, that didn't stop Green Bay from defeating the Vikings 44-31 on the road to give the team four straight SU victories (3-0-1 ATS).

The Bears have failed to cover in four straight games, dropping three of those contests outright. In the past six meetings between these teams, the Packers are 6-0 SU and 5-1 ATS. They are on a five-game ATS winning streak against the Bears and have won their past five home games (4-1 ATS) against Chicago as well.

As the coach of Green Bay, Mike McCarthy is 33-13 ATS (72%) versus division opponents, including 8-1 ATS over the past two seasons. Chicago, however, is 12-4 ATS (75%) after allowing 200 or more rushing yards in its previous game since 1992.

The Bears got off to a 3-0 start this season, but have slowed down since and will now be without QB Jay Cutler (groin) for another three weeks at least. Josh McCown takes over as the starter in this offense, and last game in relief he completed 14-of-20 passes for 204 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions while rushing four times for 33 yards in a 45-41 loss in Washington. The offense will now rely even more heavily on the shoulders of RB Matt Forte, who has rushed for 533 yards (4.6 YPC) and six touchdowns this year. The running back has also caught 35 passes for 262 yards and provides a nice safety valve for McCown. Although he's gained 817 total yards in nine career meetings with Green Bay, Forte has not found the end zone in any of the past seven meetings.

But this is still a pass-heavy offense with 255 passing YPG (11th in NFL) and 7.3 yards per attempt (9th in league) thanks to a dynamic receiving duo of WRs Brandon Marshall (540 rec. yards, 5 TD) and Alshon Jeffery (561 rec. yards, 2 TD). The Packers did a great job limiting both players last year, as Marshall had only eight catches and 80 yards over the two defeats, while Jeffery caught only one of his six targets against Green Bay.

With Jay Cutler out, the Chicago defense is going to need to step it up as a unit. The Bears have been struggling mightily this season, allowing 29.4 points per game (29th in NFL) and 391 total YPG (27th in league). This includes surrendering 273.7 YPG through the air (T-27th in NFL) and 117.3 YPG on the ground (25th in NFL). This defense thrives on turnovers with five games of 3+ takeaways, but has generated just one turnover in the past two defeats.

The Packers may have a depleted roster, but they continue to win games. Last week they won in Minnesota behind 285 yards and two touchdowns from QB Aaron Rodgers. The star signal caller has dominated the Bears in his career, going 8-2 with 249 passing YPG, 19 TD and just 6 INT in 10 meetings. Second-year WR Jarrett Boykin has stepped up in the absence of injured WRs James Jones and Randall Cobb, catching 13 passes for 192 yards and a touchdown over the past two weeks for Green Bay. RB Eddie Lacy has also been a monster on the ground for the Packers averaging 98.8 rushing YPG on 4.1 YPC over the past four weeks with two touchdowns in that span. He has really opened up the passing game for Rodgers as he is adding a running threat the team hasn’t had in years. Not to be overlooked is a Green Bay defense that continues to be outstanding, specifically on the ground.

The defense has allowed just 83.6 rushing YPG (4th in NFL) and limited Vikings star RB Adrian Peterson to 60 yards on the ground last week. Although top pass rusher, OLB Clay Matthews, remains out with a thumb injury, the Packers have still generated 20 sacks over the past five games. But not all has been positive for Green Bay, as its defense has forced just two turnovers during its four-game win streak, and ranks last in the NFL in red zone defense (71.4%).
