Monday Night Football Odds: Saints 6-Point Favorites Over 49ers
By Anthony Rome

The Monday Night Football matchup in Week 2 features the defending Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints vs. a team in the San Francisco 49ers that’s trying to pick up the pieces from last Sunday.

Game Preview:

While the Saints earned a victory in Week 1 over the Vikings, it certainly wasn’t a clean game. They gained 308 total yards of offense and threw for 229, but their high-octane offense only managed two touchdowns and kicker Garrett Hartley missed two field goals.

Of course, at least it was still a win, which is more than the 49ers can say about their effort in Week 1. The Seahawks crushed the Niners 31-6 in Seattle last Sunday, while forcing two turnovers and holding San Fran to only 49 yards rushing. The Niners looked completely out of sync on both sides of the ball and looked befuddled after gaining an early 6-0 lead.

Tonight, the Niners will need a much better defensive effort against one of the best offenses in the league. If SF has the same problems as it did last week, Drew Brees will no doubt pick them apart tonight in the “City by the Bay.”

Line Movement & Updated Odds:

The 49ers opened as 4.5-point home underdogs and the line has steadily moved up from there. It went to +5 during the week, +5.5 over the weekend and now oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have installed the 49ers as a 6-point home underdog. The over/under for tonight’s game has been seat 44 after opening at that same number.

Game Injuries:

Jonathan Vilma is dealing with a groin injury, but he’s been able to practice and is probable to play for the Saints tonight. 49ers’ receiver Ted Ginn hurt his knee and hasn’t been able to practice, while center Eric Heitmann (fibula) has already been ruled out and tight end Delanie Walker hasn’t been able to practice either. Patrick Willis (knee), Adam Snyder (illness) and Ahmad Brooks (elbow) were all able to practice this week.
