THE SURGEON

3 Units New Orleans -4 over Atlanta (Monday 8:30 pm ESPN)

The Atlanta Falcons will have a lot of their minds Monday, as this is the day their former superstar, Michael Vick, gets sentenced for his role in a dog fighting ring. This will give the Falcons a lot of negative attention and I expect them to come out flat against the Saints. This is a must win game for New Orleans if they have visions of making the playoffs, thus they will not be able to look past this 3-9 team. The Falcons do not have any consistency at quarterback and without that it is hard for teams to win games. New Orleans has already won the first meeting and now their offense is much more powerful and has the ability to light up the scoreboard for 60 minutes. The Falcons will not be able to keep up.

Indian Cowboy
Sport: NFL Football
Game: New Orleans Saints @ Atlanta Falcons - Monday December 10, 2007 8:30 pm
Pick: 3 units (Play of the Day) ATS: Atlanta Falcons +3.5 (-107)

You have to stay principled with your selections as seasons can change but there are just some principles that I do not disregard regardless of anything. I do believe in the value of revenge and the Falcons lost by 6 points on the road to New Orleans with Leftwich at the helm and facing the Saints - in their dome - with Reggie Bush. In fact, the Falcons had a chance to win that ballgame late and failed to do so. This team now has a lot of things going for it - Roddy White is reaching close to a 1000 yards receiving as he was a number 1 draft pick of the Falcons a few years back and the AP Reports that Petrino will give Norwood more touches today. Combine that with the fact the Saints are a questionable road team as they lost to the Texans recently, this team will find it tough on the road against Atlanta. The Falcons start Redman who played very well at St. Louis coming in and patiently leading the offense as he nearly brought them back to a victory as they were down big early. He will look to feed off that today against a Saints team that I believe is a bit overrated and is vulnerable. Joe Horn of the Falcons faces his former team and I do not believe the Falcons have mailed it in and will be very competitive today on national television as they are likely to lose this game by a field goal, or win outright. The Saints have been just 1-5 ATS against the NFC South lately and the underdog is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these 2 teams. This is also a solid fade of the favorite on Monday Night Football in a season the books have been getting hammered by favorites.

LAS VEGAS TECH REPORT (LVTR): NEW ORLEANS vs ATLANTA FALCONS

Play: NEW ORLEANS -3 ( BUY THE HOOK)
Comments: LAS VEGAS TECH REPORT (LVTR) SELECTION: NEW ORLEANS -3 ( BUY THE HOOK). We are being very line specific here and want to see this line at -3. As you know we primarily select underdogs for football, but every system runs its course and our under dog system has been seeing many split days or going in the wrong direction. Now we know that a 2-2 type day can easily be a 3-1 type of day but it's of no matter and won't get your money from your bookie. There are those weekends when the worst cappers will look like pros when the faves primarily win like this last Sunday and the champs can be chumps in a heartbeat and we'll be the first ones to admit we fell into that category as our dogs didn't get the job done. We have looked up and down and we can not find any reason to take Atlanta tonight. Sure the Saints defense can be porous but Atlanta isn't much better. This game is riddled with injuries. Bush is out but this maybe a blessing in disguise as the Falcons must now face the unknown with veteran Steckler and Thomas. Both are capable backs and excellent kick returners and it's going to keep Atlanta off balance. The Falcons will be on a third string quarterback. Now the advantage is Redman used to play for Petrino at Louisville and knows this system, but he's still fresh meat out there and this is not the BCS, this is the NFL where the big boys play. With so many injuries, it comes down to experience and that leans heavily into Drew Brees. He's the big X-factor tonight. If Brees is on his game, Atlanta doesn't stand a chance tonight. Don't give us this junk about the Saints giving up. They did have a letdown last week vs Tampa but they went toe to toe with them and only lost on a foolish gadget play that wasn't needed with them holding a lead at the end of the game. The Saints still hold some outside hope of garnering a play-off spot be it a little one. Both are dome teams so no advantages gained or lost there. New Orleans is 9-2 ATS away vs. conference opponents. Atlanta is 4-13 ATS as a home underdog of 3.5 to 7 points. We truly believe the Saints take this by a touchdown, but nothing is absolute in life, so play it safe, buy the hook and guard a push as a opposed to a loss. Public bought down the line enough to make it worth the purchase of the hook so lets take advantage of it and get this win tonight with The Saints.

Marco D'Angelo | NFL Side Single-Dime Bet
ATL +4.0 (-110)

Analysis: Monday Night Football and it's a must Win Game for New Orleans if they have any hope of staying alive for a Wild Card Spot. Atlanta can't wait for this season to end as for them their season ended before it started when Vick was arrested. So with all that said am I taking New Orleans tonight..hell no you see misery loves company and Atlanta would love nothing more than to end New Orleans Playoff hopes. A win on Monday Night would help salvage what has been a very bad year. Expect this one to go to the wire with Atlanta pulling out a win. TAKE ATLANTA as MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL PLAY and make them a SINGLE DIME PLAY.

The Duke's Sports

NFL:

New Orleans Under (43') for 2 Units
New Orleans/Atlanta 8:30: This series has gone 'under' in 6 of the last 8 meetings and should stay "under" here. Atlanta was forced to bring QB Chris Redman out of civilian life because of the ineffectiveness of Harrington and Leftwich; and although Redman is familiar with some of Petrino's offense in which he ran while at L'ville, Redman should find trouble getting into rhythm here with limited time of working with the Atlanta offense. The Falcons are averaging a paltry 14 ppg and shouldn't add to that tonight. On the other hand, the Saints' run game will continue to decline with a RB by committee approach with the likes of Jamaal Branch, Aaron Stecker, and Pierre Thomas while Bush will probably shut it down for the year (PCL). And without a proficient run game, we don't expect Brees to be radar efficient tonight. "Under" the call.

New Orleans (-4) for 2 Units
New Orleans/Atlanta 8:30: The Saints have done well in this spot going 19-4 ATS on the road vs division foes, including a sweet 7-1 ATS when facing a sub-par foe. New Orleans delivered on October 21st in a 22-16 win at home and should follow up with a win and cover here.

Drew Gordon Monday Night Plays:

1. 200,000 Saints

1. Saints- Despite being on the road, you've got to like the Saints in this spot for several reasons, but none bigger than the fact they still have something to play for. Granted, their playoff hopes are slim at best, but that's a much better than any chances the 3-9 Falcons have. Playing spoiler on a team filled with disgruntled players, who don't buy into coach Petrino's system, is hardly a motivator.

Also consider the two offenses, as Brees may not have the numbers he had last season, but how can you possibly compare Chris Redman to the Saints signal caller?! The fact the Saints are down to third string RB isn't good, but the Falcons situation is much worse: 4th string QB, their 3 best offensive tackles are out, and they haven't scored more than two touchdowns in a game all season!

The only way the Falcons cover in this contest is their defense, but even that unit has been suspect over their last 3 games, allowing 30 ppg on 359 total yards of offense... You though the Saints defense was bad? Their numbers over the same 3-game span: 18 ppg allowed 350 total yards offense! In other words, the Saints defense is good enough to limit a patchwork Atlanta offense, but the opposite doesn't hold true, as Brees and company tear apart this Atlanta defense.

Bottom line, neither team here is very good, but with a strong motivational edge and an even bigger edge on offense, the Saints have enough in their favor to win and cover this Monday nighter. A loss here means the end of their season, and i expect them to respond accordingly.

Take the Saints comfortably over the Falcons as your top-rated play of the day.
