Betting Preview: Clemson at Georgia Tech
A week ago, No. 15 Georgia Tech may have been ripe for the picking for the Clemson Tigers.
But, following a lackluster 37-17 win over Jacksonville State where the Yellowjackets looked sloppy, fumbling the ball five times while dropping several passes. Paul Johnson won’t let that performance stand this week when Georgia Tech hosts Clemson on Thursday night at Bobby Dodd Stadium at 7:30PM ET.
One thing the Yellowjackets did do well last week was run the ball, as it racked up 335 yards on the ground among 12 different rushers. Jonathan Dwyer led the way, rushing for 95 yards and two scores on seven carries, including a 74-yard touchdown run in the opening minutes. Josh Nesbitt looked serviceable with 141 yards through the air on 6-of-11 passing with a touchdown. Most of Georgia Tech’s starters saw limited action in the second half, so the Yellowjackets’ statistics were not strong. Defensively, Georgia Tech held Jacksonville State to 291 yards and just 98 yards rushing.
Clemson dropped a 21-17 decision to the Yellowjackets last year, and the Tigers are coming off a 37-14 win over Middle Tennessee last Saturday. C.J. Spiller opened the game with a 96-yard kick return for a touchdown, but left the game in the second half with a hamstring injury. Spiller is expected to play Thursday, and coach Dabo Swinney said Spiller could have finished the game last Saturday, had it been close. Kyle Parker threw for a pair of touchdown passes in the win but was just 9-of-20 passing for 159 yards. Jamie Harper and Andre Ellington combined to rush for just under 150 yards for Clemson, while the defense held Middle Tennessee to under 300 yards of offense.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sports Interaction have made Georgia Tech 4.5-point home favorites over Clemson on Thursday night. The over/under total for this game has been established at 42.5.
