NFL Betting Preview: Raiders at Chiefs
AFC West rivals clash at Arrowhead Stadium this Sunday when the Kansas City Chiefs host the Oakland Raiders at 1:00PM ET.
Despite a great effort last Monday night, the Raiders were victims of a 24-20 loss to the San Diego Chargers. Oakland quarterback JaMarcus Russell was 12-of-30 for 208 yards with a touchdown, but he also threw two interceptions. Although they lost, Oakland easily covered the 7-point spread.
The Chiefs hung with the Ravens for a few quarters before finally giving in to a 38-24 defeat. Brodie Croyle threw for 177 yards and two touchdowns, while receiver Dwayne Bowe hauled in four passes for 40 yards and a TD. But neither player could help a defense that was shredded by a good Baltimore offense as KC failed to cover as a 13-point underdog.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have made the Chiefs 3-point home favorites over the Raiders. The over/under total for this game has been established at 38.5.
In the last meeting between these two teams, the Chiefs edged the Raiders 20-13 in Oakland on November 30. Oakland beat the Chiefs in Kansas City 23-8 on September 14 of last year.
There are a couple of things that work in the Chiefs favor in this matchup. Oakland is coming off a short week and now has to go on the road. The Raiders also exerted a lot of energy in their loss to the Chargers, so it might be hard for them to get up for this game.
That said, the Chiefs’ defense is still transitioning to the 3-4 and will need a couple games to adjust. The Raiders certainly don’t have the offensive fire power that Baltimore does, but if Russell can avoid turning the ball over, Oakland did move the ball well against San Diego and should do the same against Kansas City.
This is a three-point game either way, so we’ll gladly take Oakland and the points. The visitor is also 11-1 against the spread in this series, while the under has covered in 7 of Kansas City’s last 8 games when playing Oakland so we recommend the under as well.
