Titans' Young will be game-time decision
October 19, 2007
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -Titans quarterback Vince Young will be a game-time decision Sunday against Houston after he took one series of snaps with the scout team Friday.
Young had injured his right quadriceps against Tampa Bay and had not practiced all week. He began Friday's workout by dropping back and throwing the ball, then ran the Titans scout team offense during a red zone drill against the starting defense.
Young was not available to the media on Friday, but Titans coach Jeff Fisher said the quarterback felt better and would still be a game-time decision.
``He was limited. He participated in warmups, threw the ball and participated in limited practice,'' Fisher said. ``That would imply that he's improving. He will still be a game-time decision, but it was encouraging to see him on the field today.''
Kerry Collins took all the first-team snaps on Friday.
``I'm ready to go. I feel like practice has gone well this week and I have a good feel for what we are going to do,'' said Collins, who has not started a regular-season game since Sept. 24, 2006.
The Titans currently do not have a third-string quarterback on the active roster, though Ingle Martin is on the practice squad.
Elsewhere with the Titans, running back Chris Brown was out of practice with a left ankle injury for the third straight day, but he has not been ruled out of the game.
Fullback Ahmard Hall practiced on Friday after suffering a concussion against Tampa Bay.
Defensive end Antwan Odom, who has been battling a thigh injury, was also out of practice again Friday.
Ravens stars questionable for Sunday
October 19, 2007
OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) -Baltimore Ravens middle linebacker Ray Lewis has an injured knee and is one of several key players who could miss Sunday's game against Buffalo.
Lewis will be a game-time decision, coach Brian Billick said Friday.
Center Mike Flynn (knee) is listed as questionable. Tight end Todd Heap (hamstring), cornerback Chris McAlister (knee) and tight end Daniel Wilcox (foot) didn't practice all week and are expected to be out Sunday.
Cornerback Samari Rolle will play Sunday after practicing most of the week, his first start since the second week of the season. He was limited to special situations in a 22-3 win over St. Louis last week, making his return after missing three games with an undisclosed illness that briefly hospitalized him.
``He'll be fine,'' Billick said. ``He's been through two good days.''
Offensive tackles Jonathan Ogden (turf toe) and Adam Terry (sprained ankle) are questionable, and rookie Jared Gaither is preparing to make his second NFL start. Quarterback Steve McNair is out with a back injury and backup Kyle Boller will start in his place.
Falcons' TE Crumpler doubtful with knee, ankle injuries
October 19th, 2007
Flowery Branch, GA (Sports Network) - Atlanta Falcons tight end Alge Crumpler has not practiced all week because of knee and ankle injuries and is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints.
Crumpler, a four-time Pro Bowl selection, came under fire after a 20-13 loss to Tennessee in Week 5. Crumpler suggested after the game that the veterans were being phased out under rookie head coach Bobby Petrino.
Crumpler is averaging a career-low 10.7 yards per catch this season on just 19 receptions in six games.
Texans' WR Johnson out for Week 7
October 19th, 2007
Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson is listed as doubtful for Sunday's matchup against the Tennessee Titans, but according to head coach Gary Kubiak, Johnson will not play.
"Of course Andre Johnson's not going to play this week," said Kubiak following practice on Friday. "But he is making progress. He ran a lot today, did some cutting, so he's taken a step forward this week."
Johnson will sit out his fifth straight contest due to a sprained knee suffered during the Texans' Week 2 encouter with the Carolina Panthers.
For the season, Johnson has 14 catches for 262 yards with three touchdowns.
Broncos' WR Walker undergoes surgery
October 19th, 2007
Englewood, CO (Sports Network) - Denver Broncos No. 1 wide receiver Javon Walker underwent surgery to clean out his injured right knee.
Head coach Mike Shanahan made said doctors estimated Walker would be out six weeks. The sixth-year wideout had surgery in the offseason on the knee, but he hasn't played since Week 3 when he had just two catches for 10 yards against Jacksonville.
For the season, Walker has 19 catches for 230 yards with no touchdowns.
Shanahan also said cornerback Champ Bailey is questionable for Sunday's home game against Pittsburgh due to a strained quadriceps muscle. Bailey returned to practice on Friday, but saw limited time on the field.
Green's season is over; will he retire?
FOXSports.com
Trent Green's decision about whether or not he should play again this season has been made for him.
The Miami Dolphins have placed Green on the injured reserve list, ending his 2007 season.
Green had undergone tests this week and last week to determine the extent of damage done by his second major concussion in as many seasons. His latest was deemed a Grade 3 concussion after his head collided with the knee of Houston Texans defensive tackle Travis Johnson.
Green is in his first season as a starter for the 0-6 Dolphins after reuniting with former position coach Cam Cameron.
"At this point, this is the best thing for Trent and the team," Cameron said in a statement. "The doctors have prescribed rest for now. No long-term decisions regarding Trent's future have been made."
Green said he understood the Dolphins' need to make a move.
"I appreciate the way the organization has handled this," he said in a statement. "I realize this is in the best interest of my long-term health, and I want nothing but the best for the team. Right now I haven't made any decisions about my future, but I talked with the Dolphins about staying involved in some capacity the rest of the season."
Green has been a mentor to rookie John Beck, a second-round draft pick who may soon be given a chance to show whether he's the Dolphins' quarterback of the future. Cleo Lemon will make his third NFL start Sunday for Miami (0-6) against New England (6-0).
Since the retirement of Dan Marino following the 1999 season, Miami has used 11 starters at the position.
While he has not yet made the decision on his future, there has been debate over whether or not Green should retire.
Green considered retirement when a concussion in September 2006 sidelined him for eight games with the Kansas City Chiefs. The effects of the latest injury were less serious, he said, although it left him unconscious for at least 30 seconds.
