NFL Preseason Betting Preview: Packers at Cardinals
Two teams that have had vastly different outcomes in their first two preseason games will clash Friday night, as the Arizona Cardinals host the Green Bay Packers.
The Packers have gotten off to a good start so far in preseason, shutting out the Browns 17-0 in their opener and then soundly beating the Bills 31-21 last Saturday. In that win over the Bills, starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers was 8-of-9 passing for 98 yards and two touchdowns.
The defending NFC champions haven’t looked as good as their Friday night counterparts, as the Cardinals dropped their opener 20-10 to the Steelers in a Super Bowl rematch, and then came up short in a 17-6 loss to the Chargers last week.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com have established the 2-0 Packers as 3.5-point underdogs heading into Arizona tonight. The over/under has been set at 41.5.
The last time these two teams met was October of 2006, when the Packers crushed the Cards 31-15 and easily covered the 4-point spread. Arizona did defeat Green Bay 20-13 in September of 2003, however.
The trends favor Green Bay and the over in this matchup, as the Packers are 6-1 over while playing on six or less days of rest and Arizona is just 0-4 against the spread as a favorite.
We’re not going to buck the trends in this one: Go with the Packers, who have looked good on both sides of the ball this preseason and just at least keep it to within three points either way. Hopefully the hook will earn you a win if Green Bay doesn’t win outright.
