NFL Preseason Week 4 Odds
Though the final week in the NFL preseason means very little to most of the starters in the league, players are still competing to make their team’s final rosters.
While some teams will use this week to iron out any last minute kinks or decide on who will start at a certain position, most teams are just trying to get through the fourth week without getting anybody hurt. That’s why the fourth week in the NFL preseason is the hardest to handicap.
Unsurprisingly, most of the point spreads for this week’s slate of games are either 3 or 3.5. Oddsmakers don’t know whether or not certain starters will play and if they do, how long they’ll be in for. Thus the point spreads are all within a field goal or 3.5 points.
One of the more interesting point spreads this week is the one in the New York Giants-New England Patriots game. Oddsmakers from online sports book Sports Interaction have made the Pats 3.5-point home underdogs, which is unusually, even with Tom Brady not expected to play. Oddsmakers must believe that the Giants have better overall depth and that their backups will be able to handle the Patriots’ No. 2’s and No. 3’s.
Another intriguing point spread is the one between the Washington Redskins and the Jacksonville Jaguars. Oddsmakers have made Jacksonville a 5-point home favorite, which is odd considering that most of the spreads this week are 3 and 3.5. Perhaps oddsmakers believe that Jack Del Rio will keep his starters in longer and thus the Jags will win by a decent margin.
