NFL SACKS VICK FOR '07 SEASON

By ERIC LENKOWITZ

August 13, 2007 -- Michael Vick, the star Atlanta Falcon quarterback who has been indicted on federal dogfighting charges, will be suspended for the entire 2007 season, it was reported yesterday.

"The plan was to make sure it was announced before the season," a source told Yahoo! Sports. "Given what everybody has seen from what [league] security found and what the feds are telling us, there's really no choice."

The Web site said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will make an official announcement some time in the next two weeks.

Vick, 27, pleaded not guilty last month to charges that including promoting competitive dog fighting, in which losing animals were often shot to death, drowned, hanged or electrocuted. Vick had already been barred from attending the team's training camp.

His trial is slated for Nov. 26 and could conclude before the end of the football season. The Web site said the suspension would be carefully worded to fit within the league's new player-conduct policies.

Because this is the first time Vick has been charged with a crime, a ban would not be compulsory. But since the allegations include gambling on the fights, a suspension could be warranted.
