Sunday Night Play...

10 Dime –

GIANTS
Take the points with the Giants tonight on the road over the Cowboys.
This is one of the more bitter rivalries in the NFL and it should be a pretty tight game.
There are questions about how effective the Giants will be this year without Tiki Barber, but there are enough weapons on offense that it shouldn’t bog them down without him.
Eli Manning had a good preseason, completing 32 of 46 passes for 318 yards and two TDs. I know you can’t place any value on preseason statistics, but Eli did look comfortable in the pocket and in his reads.
The Cowboys begin the Wade Phillips era tonight and I’ve never been a big fan of how he manages a game.
There is also the question of how Tony Romo will fare this season. He looked great in his first five starts of last year, but fizzled out in his last five. He also botched the snap on a potential game-winning field goal in their playoff loss at Seattle.
The Giants are an impressive 5-0-1 ATS in their last six meetings with the Cowboys, and four of the last five games were decided by a touchdown or less.
Take the points with the Giants as they keep it close in Big D tonight.

Sunday's Plays...

30 Dime –

SEAHAWKS
Lay the points with Seattle today when they host Tampa Bay.
The Seahawks figure to have a better season this year, as they enter the 2007 campaign with Shaun Alexander and Matt Hasselbeck both healthy. Just as important, the offensive line is injury-free as well.
The Buccaneers will start Jeff Garcia at quarterback, but he’s going to find that he doesn’t have the weapons in Tampa that he had in Philadelphia last year.
Seattle has also bolstered its defense this year through free agency, the draft and trades. Playing in one of the NFL’s toughest home venues will give the Seahawks an even greater advantage over the Bucs.
Tampa Bay is 7-20 ATS in its last 27 road games under coach Jon Gruden, while Seattle is on a 4-0 ATS run in home openers. The Seahawks are also 12-6-1 ATS at home the past two seasons.
Lay the points with Seattle as they win and cover over Tampa Bay.

10 Dime –

STEELERS
Lay the points with the Steelers on the road over the Browns.
Pittsburgh has dominated this series since Cleveland returned to the NFL in 1999. Granted, the Steelers will operate with new coach Mike Tomlin, but most of the key members of the Super Bowl winning team in 2005 are still around.
Ben Roethlisberger will be asked to take a bigger responsibility in the offense this year, and considering he led the league with 23 interceptions it’s either a sign that Big Ben has a complete grasp of what’s going on, or it’s going to be a disaster for Tomlin.
I’m willing to bet that Ben has a handle on everything and I expect a return to form from his first two seasons when he set league records for wins at the start of a career.
Willie Parker gashed the Browns defense last season and he should continue that pace today against a Cleveland unit that made no upgrades in the offseason.
If the Steelers control the line of scrimmage, they’ll continue a familiar trend against the Browns where they’ve consistently beat them by double digits.
On defense, Pittsburgh led the league in fewest points allowed per game during the preseason, and that was with a vanilla look. Now that defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau can gameplan, it should make for a long day for Charlie Frye and company.
Pittsburgh is 7-0 SU and 6-0-1 ATS in the last seven meetings with Cleveland, winning by an average score of 28-12.
The Browns are only 1-6 ATS in their last seven home openers and 4-10-1 ATS in their last 15 games against AFC North opponents.
Lay the points with the Steelers as they grab the road win and cover.

EAGLES
Lay the points with Philadelphia on the road over Green Bay.
The Eagles will welcome back quarterback Donovan McNabb and I expect him to pick up where he left off last season before he was lost with a knee injury. McNabb was on his way to a spectacular season, tossing 18 TDs against only six INTs before he was hurt.
The Packers just don’t match up well against the Eagles, going 0-4 SUATS in the past four meetings. Philadelphia has outscored Green Bay by 57 points during the past three years.
By letting running back Ahman Green go, the Packers have nobody to keep the Philadelphia defense honest which will open up the blitzing lanes against quarterback Brett Favre.
The Packers are just 4-10-2 ATS in their last 16 home games and 2-6 ATS in their last eight home openers.
Lay the points with Philadelphia as they grab the road win and cover.

5 Dime –

Lions-Raiders UNDER
Take the under this afternoon between the Lions and the Raiders.
I can’t believe this total is posted so high. It may not seem like much to the average bettor, but Oakland is just as deficient offensively as it was last year and while the Lions may talk a good game, they’re going to have a tough time putting points on the board against a good Raiders defense.
Jon Kitna was a turnover machine for Detroit last year, and that plays right into the Raiders strength, their pass defense.
Oakland had a forgettable 2006 season, but not because of their defense, which ranked third in the league.
Both teams are going to struggle to move the ball today, so play on the under.

ProfessorWins NFL

All I get are his 5* plays, so not sure what his other 2* plays are:

5* TAMPA BAY +6 over Seattle

Week 1 road dogs of less than a touchdown (+6.5 or less) that won 6 or fewer games last season are 29-9-1 ATS since 1989 (20-2 ATS since 2000). Note, if their opponent today had a winning record last year, the record in the above angle is 9-2-1 ATS since 1989, including a perfect 6-0 ATS since 2000.

Chuck Franklin Sunday Plays:

2500♦ DALLAS COWBOYS
This team is going to surprise people. Bill Parcells is so overrated as a coach and with him gone the Cowboys will be a much better team. Terrell Owens and Tony Romo are going to score lots of touchdowns this season. But the Dallas defense is going to lead the way to victory. The Giants will miss the running skills of Tiki Barber. Eli Manning has still not impressed me enough to think he can win a big game like this one, on the road. The Cowboys are hard to beat in Dallas, especially against a team from their division. They are 69-32 in that situation the last 26 years. The underachieving Giants will lose to the the more talented Cowboys and Tom Coughlin will be on the hot seat right from the start of the season. Absolute Blowout!
Football

1500♦ KANSAS CITY CHIEFS
I like the road team in this game, especially if I'm getting points with the Chiefs. Houston should not be favored over any team in the league until they show the ability to win on a consistent basis. The Texans are 1-5 ATS the last six home games in September when playing an opponent outside their division. I know that in the preseason Houston was solid and Kansas City was awful. But I also know that the Texans are 3-12 the last five seasons during the first three games of the season.

1500♦ ST LOUIS RAMS
Stephen Jackson had a great 2006 season with over 2300 total yards rushing and receiving behind a makeshift offensive line. With a healthy group of lineman leading the way I think the Rams will be scoring lots of points. The Marc Bulger-to-Torry Holt combo is as good as the Jake Delhomme-to-Steve Smith combo. So the difference will be the running game. It was the Panthers that held the Rams scoreless for the first time in eight years the last time these two teams played. Being at home, with that revenge I will be on the Rams to win this game.

Keith Line (Wagering Sports Advice) Sunday NFL and CFL:

Denver Broncos -3.
The Broncos are going to open the 2007 campaign with a win. Once again Denver has a extremely powerful ground game featuring Travis Henry who had a strong season last year with the Bills. Travis Henry will be able to blast it up the gut against the Buffalo defence who is missing players like Takeo Spikes and London Fletcher. Jay Cuter will start where he left off last season. Look for a strong mix of pass and run to keep the Buffalo defence off guard all game long. On the defensive side Denver is stacked once again. Champ Bailey, Dre Bly, John Lynch and DJ Williams will shut down the Bills single handily. A strong D-Line and pass protection will get to J.P. Losman. Look for some interceptions and good field position all game long for the Broncos. The Bills have a weak defence like already stated. They lost some key play makers and do not have much of an answer to the run or pass going into this game. This makes them very vulnerable. On the offensive side they have J.P. who is definitely nothing to write home about and will struggle all game long against this picture perfect Blitzing Denver defence. Trying to use the ground game is useless as well due to the loss of Willis Mcgahee. Marshawn Lynch is not ready to be an all star running back for a team that needs one. Look for a lack of offensive yards and 3 or 4 turnovers from the Bills. I’m predicting the Broncos to go into Buffalo and cover the spread of 3 points.

St. Louis Rams pk.
Like a couple years ago St. Louis has a very solid offense. Stephen Jackson has turned into one of the premier running backs in the league. Jackson is able to dominate any defence he takes and make star linebackers look like first year tap dancers with his direction change and east west burst. Marc Bulger has quietly turned into a pretty solid quarterback. With good pocket presence and an ability to find his star receivers Tory Holt, Isaac Bruce, Dante Hall and Drew Bennett. Those four receivers right there are in my mind the top receiving core in the league. St. Louis will have no trouble all game long in the air or on the ground for that matter. Jake Delhomme will need to have a big game after the Panthers signed David Carr to a contract. Delhomme facing a strong blitzing defensive line does not add up. Look for turnovers and hurried attempts all day from the Panthers. I’m going to take the Rams at home straight up Sunday afternoon.

Jacksonville -6
Finally Jack Del Rio has made the right decision. Cut Byron Leftwich. Sure we all loved Byron but when you suck, you suck. The Jags finished last year 10-6...I mean 8-8. The fact was they played some solid football last season and was it not for some late game blowups in the 3rd and 4th quarter they may have made it far in the season. With a solid running attack in Fred Taylor and a team averaging over 5 yards per play last season the Jags are very effective on the offensive side of the ball. Dennis Northcut and Ernest Wilford and Jones-Drew lead the wide outs for the Jags. Look for a solid performance offensively today from the Jags. So Vince Young was a solid quarterback last season. He was all over the place running the ball and throwing miracle passes all game long. Here’s a secret, Travis Henry was in the back field. Now if you actually read everything here you would notice Travis Henry is playing with the Broncos this season. This leaves Tennessee with Chris Brown in the backfield. No not the rapper, Chris Brown the 3rd round 29th overall pick 2 years back. Still don't know him, don't worry you aren’t missing much. Now Jacksonville has to and will bring the blitz almost every down and force Vince Young to scramble and throw passes that you should not throw to receivers who don't usually catch the passes they shouldn’t catch. This spells turnovers and sacks for Jacksonville. Not only will the Jags knock the Totals off balance but the crowd will help along with that as well. Look for a weak offensive and defensive game from a totally different Titans team to open the season Sunday afternoon. Take the Jags to win by a touchdown.

Cleveland +5
Heads or Tails? That is what was on the minds of the Cleveland quarterbacks going into training camp. It wisent losing games or how bad they were last season but it was on a flip of a coin. Charlie Frye called heads and will start Sunday for the Browns. Now your right he sucked last year, but this year the laughing stock of the NFL is allot better. Finally a good offensive line made up of Hank Fraley, Eric Steinbach, and Joe Thomas. These 3 will give what every quarterback and college student needs, protection. With at least 2 seconds in the pocket each throw this year Charlie Frye will be able to make completions to receivers like Joe Jurevicious and Kellen Winslow. The Browns finally have a running back in Jamal Lewis who made the move from Baltimore. His ankle is 100% healed and he is good to go. Pittsburgh has most of their players from last year back but are missing their leader. Coach Cowher is gone which is going to make things different in Steel town. A different system is always tough to get used to in just the pre season and make it work in the first week. I’m going to back the Browns at home plus the five points to get the win over the Steelers and start what I predict to be a 7-9 or 8-8 season for the new and improved Browns.

Philadelphia -2.5
The saying I got his number is never more true then it is with Andy Reid and playing the Packers. Reid is 5-0 in his last 5 games facing the Packers and the Eagles have outscored the Pack by more then 45 points in those games. Philadelphia has a fresh off surgery Donovan Mcnabb who recovered fast because he ate his Campbell’s chunky soup every day....err strong work ethic and training. The Eagles will also have Brian Westbrook in the backfield who will start and rack up a lot of yards this season. Hank Baskett will be the new receiving star in Philly. After some solid outings in the past season and the loss of some key receivers its his time to shine for the Eagles. Now making the change to Green Bay. Brett Farve will make his 2,131 start today for the Packers, as long as he doesn’t break a hip on the way to the stadium he will break Cal Ripken Jr. streak of most games started in a row. Luckily for Brett Farve the Packers are starting Vernand Morency and Brandon Jackson in the back field. Now most of you are thinking, why does that make Brett Farve lucky? Well, people will be too busy trying to think about everyone they went to school with that lives in Wisconsin now with the name Vernand and Brandon because it might be their friends who got picked off the streets to play running back for the Packers. Donald Driver is playing hurt, Greg Jennings is going to have a tough go against the Philly secondary and Bubba Franks is not going to start. Its going to be a long day for the Pack. I’m putting my money on the Eagles minus 2 and a hook.
Those are my five picks for Week One of the NFL Season. Hopefully you will be on the winning line today. Remember, Think Smart and Bet Sharp
